Tonight’s recap:  Two of the nuns chat about a Poitier movie and head in to do rounds. They find Grace drenched in blood from her groin area. A woman appears at her bedside, all in black and then sprouts black wings. She takes Grace’s hand. The two nuns try to revive her – they can’t see the dark angel. It draws close enough to kiss her. The nuns bring her back from the brink of death and the winged thing disappears. They tell Grace they almost lost her and she says “You should have let me go!”

Sister Mary finds the good Nazi doctor repotting plants. She tells him he’s all thumbs and that he botched Grace’s sterilization surgery. He seems confused. He says he never sterilized her. Mary tells him all of Grace’s “girl parts are all scooped out.”

He’s offended and tells her to speak to him with respect. He slaps her and Mary tells him if he touches her again, he’ll die. He reaches to strike her again and she sends him hurtling across the room, slamming into the fireplace without ever touching him. She tells him she hopes that clarifies things for him.

Miles is working in the kitchen and hearing abusive voices in his head telling him to do something for once in his miserable life. He convinces the nun to allow him to check the meat slicer because he thinks the meat is cut crooked. He tries to cut his arm off. In his blood he writes a word on the wall – thing is he’s illiterate and says he has no idea.

The demon/Sister Mary recognizes the word as an ancient one in Aramaic and she says you summoned her. Apparently he called the dark angel to the loony bin.

After Miles is stitched up, they put him in a room and chain him down. He says he doesn’t want to be in the world anymore. The dark angel manifests and asks if he wants her to kiss him. She does and he dies. Then Sister Mary comes in and sees her. Apparently she shouldn’t be visible. Mary tells her to leave. The angel calls Mary a fallen one – she says she can see the girl trapped inside. Mary breaks loose for a payment and cries out for help before the demon takes back over. The dark angel says they’ll meet again and she’s gone.

At Grace’s bedside, Archer’s checking her chart. He tells her she’s got an infection from the botched hysterectomy. He tells her both of them know he didn’t do the surgery. He says he’d just as well let her die, but that won’t be good for him. He wants her to live to set the record straight and sets about saving her life.

Back at Thredson’s place, he’s having sex with his surrogate mommy/prisoner Lana. The dark angel watches as Lana tolerates it and tries to hang on to her sanity. Does the dark angel appear to people who are dying? Want to do? The latter seems more probably since Lana looked like she wants to be dead.

Kit is telling his lawyer that Thredson tricked him into the confession. He tells him to talk to Grace. The lawyer says she’s an unreliable witness because she’s in an asylum plus she’s dying. His lawyer tells him he’s likely to get the chair. Kit eyes the implements on the desk, chooses a giant whole puncher and slams it into his lawyer’s head.

Lana sees the dark angel and asks her if she heard her calling. The angel nods. Lana says death would be better, that she can’t do it anymore. She tells the angel she used to be scared of death, but she’s not anymore. Dark angel tells her to let go and flips out her wings. The angel bends to kiss her and she stops her and says ‘not yet.’

Thredson comes down and tells Lana they need to have a little talk. He tells her that he’s not angry – that what happened before wasn’t her fault  – that he shouldn’t have brought her there. He tells her they’ve reached an impasse. He tells her he doesn’t want to hurt her, that she can pick, he’ll either cut her throat or strangler her, but she won’t feel a thing. He pulls out a syringe and says he’ll knock her out first.

She’s fighting and he tells her to stop. He tells her she’ll be reunited with Wendy. The mention of her lover that he killed seems to galvanize her and she hits him, bashes the syringe into his face and proceeds to choke him with her chains which she unlocks. He tries to grab her on the stairs, but she’s able to beat him back. Looks like he’s knocked out. She runs out into the road and a car hits her, but it was almost at a stop and just thumps her.

Lana thanks the man and tells him he saved her life. He goes crazy. Has she gone from frying pan to fire? The driver’s ranting about his wife cheating on him and leaving him. He’s got a gun in his hand. She looks back and sees the dark angel and knows she’s about to die.

He’s ranting and accusing her of all the things is wife did. Lana thinks he’s going to shoot her, but he doesn’t – he shoots himself. She struggles for the wheel and the car flips. She wakes up in a head brace, chained to the bed, back in Briarcliff. Wow! Totally sucky turn of events.

Back to the hotel room with Jude and the Nazi hunter, he’s hanging on to life long enough to tell her that it wasn’t Arden that attacked him, it was one of her nuns. She’s screaming and crying and calls the police. In the bathroom, dark angel gives the man a kiss. On the TV is scrawled the word murder and the article about the hit and run where she killed the girl is taped to it.

Flashback – Jude’s in a hotel room and there’s a pounding on the door. Her band leader’s angry because they had a gig last night and they didn’t have her there to sing. She makes excuses about being sick – but he knows she’s a drunk. One of the guy’s cousins filled in and they’ve decided to keep her and let Jude go. He gives her an envelope with some money to tide her over. She begs him not to fire her and offers him sex. He says she smells like vomit.

He also tells her there’s a card with the money – a number to call the cops – they’re looking for information on a hit and run near the club and are asking everyone if they saw anything. She packs hurriedly and is on the road. She listens to the news and hears that they’re still looking for the hit and run driver. She drinks while she drives off. She has a wreck and wakes up to see an angel above her. It’s a statue – she’s plowed into a tree in front of a convent. Literally a sign from God?

Back in the present, Jude’s boozing it up when the phone rings. It’s Mary, who says she’s her conscience calling. Jude asks what she’s done. Mary asks instead, what have you done? She tells her the dead man was investigating her and the hit and run case – that’s what the documents will show. Mary tells her she left her a bottle of whiskey, something else and that Jude should start running. The bonus item was a straight razor. In the bathroom, Jude cuts her wrists – no wait – she was just envisioning how it would look if she did.

She’s in a diner and comes to sit down with the dark angel. She tells angel she jumped the gun again – that it was just a passing thought. Angel tells her she comes when she’s called, but she never judges. She talks about how she found out on her wedding  night that her husband had given her syphilis and that she’d never have kids.

She asked why she didn’t die that night. She asks why she didn’t die the night she killed the little girl. Angel tells her she was too young the first time and the second time, God had given her a calling. She tells Angel she’s a drunk, a whore and a murdered. Angel tells her she deserves peace, that it’s so close. Jude tells her she’s ready. Ready to do one last thing. Angel’s gone – the waitresses see Jude talking to herself and wonder if they should call Briarcliff – one says that at least Briarcliff would give her a bed for the night… Irony with that coffee and pie anyone?

Jude’s at a family’s house. It’s the dead girl’s house! They ask if she was her teacher and she says no, that she’s a nun. She picks up a photo of the family. She tells them she’s there to tell them a story about their daughter. Then Missy walks in – she’s all grown up – and not dead. Jude tells them she thought someone ran over her and she died.

Jude tells her she’s been praying and lighting candles for her soul and for their family. She says she was just becoming a nun at the time of the wreck. She says she’s having a faith struggle. Turns out she didn’t die, she just had a few broken bones. The wife says her hubby Hank wanted revenge on the bastard that left their daughter lying there, but he’s gotten past it.

Lana’s awake and asking for Sister Jude. Mary tells her she’s not at Briarcliff anymore. Lana tells Jude that Thredson’s a killer and that he killed Wendy and a bunch of other girls. She tells her specifically that Thredson is Bloody Face and Kit is innocent. Mary tells her she believes her and that it’s okay, because no one knows she’s there.

Mary tells her to take her pills. Lana tells her all the proof is in his basement. Mary tells her she’s safe now. I can’t imagine Mary will turn in Thredson – he seems like her kind of guy. She tells the guard that Lana’s talking crazy and said Thredson attacked her and Kit is innocent. The guard tells her that’s not likely since Kit assaulted someone and escaped.

One of the nuns finds Grace in the kitchen. She tells her she needs to be convalescing – seems like Arden’s miracle work worked a miracle. Kit snuck back into the asylum – he came for Grace, but he was chased by a monster creature that attacks the nun who spots them and starts to scream. The creature attacks the nun and comes for Kit. He fights it off and kills it, but the guard comes in and starts to shoot at Kit. Grace jumps in front of the bullet.

The Angel comes to give Grace a good bye kiss – she asks Grace if she’s ready and she says yes. She kisses her and Grace is gone. Looks like both Lana and Kit are now back in Briarcliff. What a crappy place for a reunion that neither wanted! And that’s it for tonight’s creepy episode at the asylum.

What will Jude do now that she knows she’s not a killer? I’m guessing she’s going to beat feet back to Briarcliff and do battle again with Sister Mary and evil Dr. Arden. Can’t wait for next week!
