Women can be really nasty anywhere but Hollywood is especially known to be a cesspool of self-absorbed cattiness. One rumored feud has been between Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence, both vying for Oscars in the Best Actress category. Supposedly Jessica is pissed because at every award show Jennifer has stolen her thunder. Jessica took to Facebook yesterday to try and speak out and set the record straight (maybe).
“I think all of the actresses recognized this year have given incredible performances. But more important, they’ve all shown themselves to be filled with generosity and kindness. I’ve done two photo shoots with Jennifer Lawrence over the years and have found her to be utterly charming and a great talent. I’ve told her how beautiful her film work is.”
It’s great that Jessica is speaking out and wants to promote the idea of unity between the actresses. Perhaps they really haven’t been embroiled in a bout of catty behavior – or else they’ve joined forces against a common threat. Who might that be? Emmanuelle Riva of course. The actress crept in and snagged the Best Actress award at the BAFTA Awards this past weekend, leaving both Jessica and Jennifer in the dust. Clearly they had powerful competition other than each other that they weren’t really bargaining on!
I’d like to think Jessica wants to simply play nice and get along, but I know women. We can be evil and the only thing worse that a personal battle is when two women join forces against an outside threat and at this point, that’s exactly what Emmanuelle is!
At the very least teaming up was an easy way to put to rest any rivalry between the two A-list actresses, right?
