Dancing With The Stars Gary Busey Being Exploited: DWTS Using Star's Disabilities For Ratings?

Is Dancing With The Stars exploiting Gary Busey and his manifest disabilities which appears to border on mental illness, for ratings? The ABC dancing competition is on Season 21, and ratings haven’t been the strongest over the past few seasons – the producers are always looking for new gimmicks and scandals to create a buzz for the show. Because, let’s be honest, after 21 seasons they need to do something to keep DWTS fans interested. And, it looks like Gary Busey is this season’s gimmick – and ABC is milking his unpredictable behavior and less than lucid rambling for all that it is worth.

When Dancing With The Stars spoilers revealed that Gary Busey was a member of the Season 21 cast of the dancing competition – we all knew that his bizarre behavior would be featured. Gary Busey has made a reputation for himself over the years as “that crazy guy,” and his colorful antics have been in the news for years. What a lot of people don’t realize about the iconic actor is that he was actually in a tragic motorcycle accident many years ago during which the star wasn’t wearing a helmet – which caused brain damage, and he was in a coma for over a month. Since the accident, Busey had to learn to walk and talk again and was never the same – of course the cocaine overdoses after he recovered from motorcycle accident didn’t exactly help his mental capacity either.

During the Season 21 premiere of Dancing With The Stars, Gary Busey did not disappoint – and the host Erin Andrews and DWTS judges let him take the floor, go off-script, and laughed at him (not with him) while he made no sense. Some DWTS fans have taken to the Internet to express their feelings about Gary’s DWTS performance – and general consensus is that TPTB at Dancing With The Stars are exploiting him for ratings.

Even more interesting, Gary’s performance was really not up to par (he’s over 70!), yet he received better scores than some of the other celeb dancers who performed much better. A popular theory on the internet is that it is a conspiracy to keep him on the show longer, because the producers think that his crazy and erratic behavior on live television will bring in more viewers.
