DMX’s manager has confirmed to website TMZ that he violated the probation conditions of his 2002 conviction for reckless driving and turned himself in to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Courthouse on Monday afternoon (26.07.10). DMX – real name Earl Simmons – was initially arrested for DUI (driving under influence) in 2002, but reached a plea deal for the lesser charge of reckless driving.
A string of events – including serving time for unrelated crimes -caused the hip-hop star to delay staring his 90-day incarceration before he submitted himself to authorities. This is not the first time DMX has spent time behind bars – he was released from an Arizona prison in May after serving a three-month sentence for fraud, animal cruelty and drugs charges.
However, the rapper’s lawyer Aja Southern has admitted DMX is willingly taking the steps towards becoming a more responsible citizen. Referring to him handing himself over to the court, she said in a statement: “This is one of many steps towards rebuilding his image and rapport with the community and his loyal fans.”
