Confirmed: Christopher Meloni Leaving Law & Order: SVU

One of my favorite actors Christopher Meloni, 50,  is leaving Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.  Christopher played Detective Elliot Stabler on the show for 12 years and he has had enough.  Mariska Hargitay who plays his partner Olivia Benson on the show  has only signed on for 13 episodes.  Apparently Christopher was unable to come to a deal with Universal Media Studios so he is leaving.

Radar online has more, 12 seasons, Meloni brought amazing range and depth to a complex character, a devoted Catholic family man with strong morals yet conflicted by personal turmoil, including recurring fantasies of murdering pedophiles.  The fine line Stabler walked in his everyday life made for some of the most scintillating TV of the past decade, evidenced by the show’s high ratings and non-stop replays in syndication.

Sadly  the show is losing two of it’s major stars.  Can it survive without them?  I think not!  What do you think?  Will you tune in to Law & Order: SVU without Elliot and Oliva?
