Ice Cube Needs His ‘Daddy’ For ‘Last Friday’ Movie

Ice Cube Needs His 'Daddy' For 'Last Friday' Movie

Ice Cube is in the process of putting together the cast and crew for his next, and possibly last, movie in the Friday franchise and he wants John Witherspoon back again to play his daddy.

O’Shea Jackson, aka Ice Cube, was already at the top of the recording game when John Singleton encouraged him to try his hand at screenwriting, telling him, “If you can write a record, you can write a movie.”

With this encouragement, Ice Cube wrote the screenplay for what became the 1995 comedy Friday, in which he also starred, alongside then up-and-coming comedian Chris Tucker. Friday earned $28 million worldwide on a $3.5 million budget, and spawned two sequels, Next Friday and Friday After Next.

On March 9, 2011 he announced that he was making the final sequel called Last Friday.

As TMZ reports it looks like Withersoon is all set to play papa:  Ice Cube knows … you can’t have a “Friday” movie without John Witherspoon to punish the bathrooms.  TMZ has learned … Cube has already reached out to the actor to reprise his role as his burrito-eating, dog-catching father, Willie Jones, in the next “Friday” movie.

We spoke to Witherspoon … who tells us, “I said, ‘HELL YEAHHHH! I am ready to do this!”  Witherspoon says nothing is in stone yet … but he’s very confident everything will be worked out.

TMZ broke the story … Cube has also been in talks with Chris Tucker and Tiny Lister about reprising the roles they made famous in the 1995 hit.

WItherspoon says he’s excited to work with all his old pals — but he’s more fired up about the women … telling us, “One thing for sure that I do look forward to seeing on the set is pretty girls.”

“Cube always has bunch fine women on the set. I am an old black man, how could I not look forward to taping with a bunch of pretty girls surrounding the set?”

Since Ice Cube is now in his 40’s it might be time for him to get a new idea – playing the son in the ‘hood’ is getting tired.
