J.K. Rowling Says Goodbye To Her Lit Agent

J.K. Rowling has recently said goodbye to her literary agent of many, many years — the one that helped champion the wizarding realm to the entire world. The news finally surfaced after her agent, Christopher Little, was absent from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ pt. 2  premiere.

In an article published in the Daily Mail, Angella Johnson writes:

“[The] curt dismissal letter did not even come from Rowling herself. It was sent by Little’s business partner and company lawyer Neil Blair, stating that he was leaving to start his own literary agency—and taking Rowling with him . . . industry sources believe that a failure to agree the finances of [the new Pottermore site] could have been behind the decision. But the manner and timing of Little’s dismissal—so close to the premiere—seems to reflect badly on Rowling.”

It was said to have been a tough decision on Rowling’s part, as she was looking for some way to maintain the partnership, but ultimately their paths ended up drifting apart. I think it’s important to realize that Rowling didn’t just decide one morning “Hey, I don’t need an agent anymore — because I don’t want him to take anymore of my money.” There were reasons — I imagine good ones — for her sudden change.

As we head into the midnight premiere of the last ever Harry Potter Movie, keep this little tidbit of information in the back of your mind: After receiving rejection upon rejection upon rejection, the first ever Harry Potter manuscript was rescued from her now-ex-agent’s recycle bin by his assistant. If it weren’t for those hands . . . who knows what might’ve happened?

IDK who you are, assistant, but I love you :)
