Woody Harrelson Opens Up About Playing Haymitch In The Hunger Games

Woody Harrelson Opens Up About Playing Haymitch In The Hunger GamesI’ve been biting my nails in anticipation for the release of The Hunger Games, the first of 3 movies being adapted from Suzanne Collins best selling books. My excitement is not only because the books are fantastic, but because the stellar cast that have attached themselves to the trilogy.

One person in mind – a favorite – is the one and only Woody Harrelson who plays Haymitch Abernathy, the alcoholic mentor to Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson). Woody has played his fair share of characters, and has garnered himself an Oscar for his performances. So it’s no surprise I’m DYING to see him portray Haymitch, one of my favorite characters in the books.

He opened up to the LA Times about his character:

“it was my objective to give the character as much comedy as I could without it seeming not to fit. I tried to take a certain comedic aspect and give a sense, through that, that he’s been through a lot and is anesthetizing himself as a result of that.”

Well put Woodrow. He also goes on to say:

“the essence of the book is going to be the film. It’s something we’ve never seen before. We have the best wardrobe, the best costume people, the best makeup people. There’s a level of commitment to innovation that filmgoers have never seen. I think they’re going to be very pleasantly surprised by it.”

Have I mentioned yet that I can’t wait until the movie’s premiere next March?
