American Idol Recap: Season 11 Hollywood Week, Part 1 2/8/12

Last week was the final week of the American Idol season 11 auditions and now we are on to Hollywood week.  If you missed last week’s show you can read our official recap here!  Out of all the auditions over 300 contestants got a golden ticket to Hollywood.  Hollywood Week kicks off tonight, stand by as we live blog Part 1 of Hollywood week.  During the Hollywood round the contestants will be pushed to their limit and only 70 will survive.

So far American Idol has been boring and lackluster at best, I am hoping Hollywood Week kicks the show up a notch.   What have you thought of American Idol this season so far?  Sound out in the comments below!  The ratings for American Idol are lower this season but Nigel Lythgoe claims that it was inevitable that ratings from the show would have dropped, because whether or not people like The Voice and X factor, “they’re still feeding from the same talent and it’s still going to dilute our audience.”

If you want to see who made it to Hollywood week – you can see the full list here.  The list includes a bio, photos and video.

We will be live blogging American Idol – Hollywood Week, Part 1 with all the up-to-the-minute details at 8 PM EST so make sure to come back to this spot and watch the show with us. Refresh often to get the latest updates!!

RECAP: Hollywood, Day 1: Contestants come out in groups of ten. Johnny Keyser is the first contestant to sing and he really impresses the judges.  Heejun Hee is up next and even though he is really nervous, he does a great job; both are the first, plus Gabby and June make it from the first group.

Next Group: Elise Testone is awesome,  Baylie Brown is another one that really impresses the judges. Hallie Day is good and everyone from this group makes it through.

The third group is up, Jen Hirsh is first and she is really nervous. Lauren Gray just keeps singing and doesn’t see Randy trying to stop her; both make it through.

The next group brings Phil Phillips and his performance was a little off. Reed Grimm, who is very familiar on stage, blows the judges away and gets a standing ovation from the crows. Travis Orlando, did he learn his lesson from being eliminated last year?  Phillip and Reed make it through but Travis will be going back home and he is clearly devastated.

Day 2 in Hollywood: The judges are ready and positive for a good day. Adam Brock who is missing his new daughter really belts it out . Jane Carrey, Jim Carrey’s daughter, is up next. She’s ok and both she and Joe are eliminated but all 7 of the others make it through. I am happy Jane Carrey got the boot, I didn’t think she was that good anyway.

Shannon Magrane  did good, David Leathers Jr. talks a big game, but can he deliver? Jessica Phillips does a great job with her boyfriend looking on. All of them make it, with 4 others.

Erika Van Pelt steals the show with a powerful performance. Creighton Fraker is another show stopper, really great. Aaronn Marcellus was amazing and everyone in their group makes it through.

Lauren Mink does great, Jeremy Rosado gives JLo goose bumps. Symone Black sings an Otis Redding song with her dad looking on and she faints, then falls off the stage.

Tomorrow night, the pressure builds, it is group night. Come back to find out who is grouped together and how Symone Black recovers from her fall.
