Dancing With The Stars All-Stars “Fusion Night” REVIEW

Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars kicked into glitzy high gear last night with the fusion dances and the marathon endurance dance. The couples received some of the highest scores of the season from the judges. Last week’s non-shocking elimination of Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel had all the couples on their best behavior last night. One misstep, one fumble, one dinosaur paw, and their C-list dancing careers could come crashing down like a pile of cheap Thanksgiving decorations. Celeb Dirty Laundry is once again bringing you a full review of last night’s show, so without further adieu, read below to find out how your favourite couple scored.  If you missed any of the performances, you can see all the performance videos here!

Apolo Ohno and partner Karina Smirnoff danced the Cha Cha/Paso Doble – The below-the-radar dance couple was praised by the judges for their excellent fusion performance. Len didn’t think “there wasn’t [anything] safe about the performance”, while Bruno and Carrie Ann called Apolo a “wolf with plenty of power” and that it “started off strong and ended strong”. Apolo and Karina scored 9 points from each of the judges. Their total score of 27 was their second best score of the entire season – they only once scored 27 during the 5th week of competition, but scored 30 points during the 6th week of competition. The couple came in 5th place in the marathon dance and added a neat 6 points to their score. TOTAL SCORE OF THE NIGHT: 33.0 – a below-average total score.

Emmitt Smith and partner Cheryl Burke danced the Rumba/Samba – The couple received mixed critique from the judges. Len loved it and Bruno thought it was a “wonderful job”, but Carrie Ann thought Emmitt lacked his “upper body” and that “the middle got a bit messed up”. Len and Bruno awarded a near perfect score of 9.5, while Carrie Ann awarded an average 8.5 points. Their total score of 27.5 was their second highest score of the season – they scored 29 points during their 5th week of competition. The couple came in 4th place in the marathon dance and added an important 7 points to their score. TOTAL SCORE OF THE NIGHT: 34.5 – exactly on par with the 34.5 average of the night.

Kirstie Alley and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the Quickstep/Samba – The low scoring couple received below average critique from the judges. Len liked it and said it was an “admirable effort”, Bruno said that Kirstie was the only one who could “change Cinderella into a stripper”, and Carrie Ann liked the Quickstep, but thought that the “Samba fell apart”. Their total score of 24 was among their lowest scores of the season – they only once scored 24 during the 3rd week of competition, but scored a 25.5 and a 27.5 during the 5th and 6th week of competition. The couple came in last place in the marathon dance and added a useless 4 points to their score. TOTAL SCORE OF THE NIGHT: 28.0 – a total of 6.5 points below average. This was also the lowest scoring couple of the night.

Kelly Monaco and partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy danced the Foxtrot/Cha Cha – Kelly and Val made their return to the dance floor last night after a horrid few weeks. Len, Bruno, and Carrie Ann thought it was “lovely”, a “great improvement”, and “overall beautiful”. All three judges awarded the couple 9 points, for a grand total of 27 points. Their total score of 27 was the highest score of their season, but did not surpass the 27 points they were awarded during the 3rd and 6th week of competition. The couple came in second place in the marathon dance and added a spectacular nine points to their score. TOTAL SCORE OF THE NIGHT: 36.0 – the third highest score of the night.

Melissa Rycroft and partner Tony Dovolani danced the Tango/Cha Cha – The previously injured Melissa received brilliant critique from the judges. All three judges called it an excellent performance. Carrie Ann awarded them a perfect score of 10, while Len and Bruno scored them 9.5 points. Their total score of 29 was their second highest score of the season – they once scored a 29.5 during the 6th week of competition. The couple came in first place in the marathon dance and added a perfect 10 to their score. TOTAL SCORE OF THE NIGHT: 39.0 – The highest score of the night and also the highest non-culmination score of the season.

Shawn Johnson and partner Mark Ballas danced the Tango/Paso Doble – Derek Hough’s absenteeism gave Shawn and Mark the opportunity to shine. All three judges absolutely adored the performance and awarded the couple a perfect 10. Their total score of 30 was their highest score of the season and the third time in this season’s history that a couple received a perfect score. The couple came in 3rd place in the marathon dance and added an excellent 8 points to their score. TOTAL SCORE OF THE NIGHT: 38.0 – the second highest score of the night.

Gilles Marini and partner Peta Murgatroyd danced the Tango/Samba – The couple received good critique from the judges. Len and Bruno liked it, but Carrie Ann told Giles about “those arm thingies that are happening”. All three judges scored Giles and Peta 9.5 points. Their total score of 28.5 points was their second highest score of the season – they once scored 29.5 points during the 5th week of competition. The couple came in 6th place in the marathon dance and added a cool 6 points to their score. TOTAL SCORE OF THE NIGHT: 33.5 – one point below the average.

We dare not ask who your favourite of the night was, as most of you already have a set favourite in the competition. Who do you think should leave? Who do you think has long overstayed his/her welcome? Who should bite the dust and be voted off? We’re still undecided, but we have a sneaky suspicion that next week’s elimination show might see Kirstie and Maks be kicked into the starry night.
