The Vampire Diaries season 3 finale — unfortunately — is approaching us quicker than we’d all like to admit and the show’s main character, Elena, is going to be faced with an incredibly tough decision regarding her romantic life: Stefan or Damon?
Now, we don’t have any major spoilers for you, but we’re going to bet she goes running back to Stefan — that whiney lil’ vampire who lost his humanity, can’t control his bloodlust, yaddy-yaddy-yah *sigh*
However, that said, we won’t be shocked if she goes the Damon route. Producers did a wonderful job setting up Elena’s story this season, opening her character up to a world of romantic possibilities. Would it surprise anyone if she left both Salvatore brothers high and dry, and she chose not to love either of them? Hmm . . . one thing TVD is good at is surprises/shockers. Fans should expect, and be prepared for, anything.
Exec producer Julie Plec, when asked about Elena’s emotional decision, says:
“It will not be easy. It will be very emotional for both sides because it’s going to be a very honest, very pure, very difficult decision. Hopefully if we’ve done our jobs right with Elena’s character over the season, we’ll understand why she’s making the decision that she’s making and how that decision is meant to be right for where she is in her life right now.”
Plec admitted that writing this season finale was particularly emotional:
“I cried many, many times . . . . But it was a very, very emotional experience writing the finale, for a lot of reasons.”
While TVD hasn’t officially been picked up for a third season (I bet many of you are gasping right now), chances are The CW will pull through. I honestly don’t think they can afford to nix such a popular show, and with new stories/character developments/new villains/etc. already in the works, I’d say we can look forward to season 4.

We’ve got a lot going on, a lot of really amazing character moves, great romance, a new mystery, a new villain and I’m really excited about it. We’re feeling pretty good about it already and we’ve only been talking about it for two weeks.
