Chris Hemsworth is the latest name to be thrown into the Fifty Shades of Grey ring. Speculations have been running rampant that Chris may be looking at the role of Christian Grey. As a huge fan and supporter of the Fifty Shades trilogy I would have to say no, No, and NO!
It would be 100% impossible for me to imagine Thor portray a Dom in this movie. Christian Grey’s character is supposed to be physically fit, but not a big and burly weightlifter, as Chris looks to me. Perhaps I should take a step back and re-evaluate what I think Christian Grey would look like on screen. I think too much of my time was invested in these books so my vision of who could play “Fifty” in a movie is completely biased.
Though it pains me to say it, this role would be best if given to an unknown actor. Yes, a seasoned actor may be more comfortable in front of the cameras, but an unknown or up-and-comer may be ready to work harder to get his name out there. Robert Pattinson was not very popular when he was cast as Edward in Twilight, but he sure did shoot to stardom once the fans of the series accepted him. He even turned out to be a great actor; maybe, not in the Twilight series, but definitely in his other movies (Little Ashes, Bel Ami).
No matter what name is cast as “Fifty” the main thing that I want is for the actor to do his best to make the big scenes from the book come to life. I want him to be able to show Christian’s lack of patience with Anastasia Steele when she doesn’t do what he says. I want him to be able to show the inner pain that Christian’s face shows whenever Ana touches him. Basically, I want on-screen Christian to be a great actor.
