If there’s one thing we’ve learned from watching Dance Moms, it’s that the dynamic in children’s dance studios is cutthroat (to put it nicely). And the antics reach a whole new level of crazy in Abby Lee Miller’s studio. Dance Mom’s season 4 premieres January 1st on Lifetime and will ring in the New Year with enough shouting, fighting, and grade-A dancing to make you forget all about those 2013 New Year’s Resolutions you failed to meet. What better way to kick your 2014 butt into high gear than with some good ol’ fashioned Dance Moms drama? We need a good dose of Abby—who’s never afraid to dish reality as she sees it.
Season 4 kicks off with “Dance Moms Special: Guess Who’s Coming to the Dance?” and sets the stage for an epic season wherein Abby will embark upon a national scouting tour in search of America’s best young dancers for her team. Unfortunately, the dance moms aren’t too eager to welcome “new friends” to the party and will do everything in their mommy power to ensure that their daughters remain top priority. But Abby has little time for mom drama and, in her efforts to infuse her company with shiny new talent, she’ll make her number one philosophy known: “Everyone is replaceable.”
In an activity that should inspire children’s creative modes of expression, Abby’s perspective both fascinates and terrifies us. It just goes to show that hardcore competition isn’t reserved solely for adults and, sometimes, it takes a child to show the world how to do it right.
In the newest video telling viewers about the season premiere, Abby’s intense—and sometimes mean—personality shines at the forefront, beginning with her manhandling a dancer’s foot (struggling to find pointe) and staving off hordes of sketchy dance moms. The short clip has us super pumped up for the new season and, while Abby’s mere existence makes us anxious, we can’t help but love the woman.
It’s a New Year, new team, all seasoned to perfection with new drama. Only one question remains: Will you be able to sleep at night knowing that Abby Lee Miller is on the move, possibly approaching a city near you?
