Hell’s Kitchen RECAP 6/20/13: Season 11 “5 Chefs Compete”

Tonight on FOX our favorite Chef Gordon Ramsey returns with a new episode of HELL’S KITCHEN called, “5 Chefs Compete.” On tonight’s show the remaining chefs meet their two guest judges: Lesley Bargar Suter, dine editor of Los Angeles magazine and Nancy Silverton, chef/partner Osteria Mozza.  Did you watch last week’s episode? We did and we recapped it here for you!

On last week’s show Chef Ramsay tested the remaining six contestants’ ability to communicate and work in sync during a three entrée relay race. Each team had 30 minutes to prepare three dishes with one chef in the kitchen at a time. The winning team enjoyed a helicopter tour and an exquisite caviar tasting, while the losing team was punished with backbreaking work peeling potatoes in HELL’S KITCHEN. Later, both teams pleased Chef Ramsay during dinner service but with coveted black jackets at stake, one more chef had to go home for good.  At the end of the show Chef Ramsay decided Zack’s journey had ended.

On tonight’s show the remaining chefs get a very special surprise from their family members, and Chef Ramsay hands out the coveted black jackets. Later, Chef Ramsay tests the chefs’ originality in an intense pressure cooker test. The winner of the challenge earns an unforgettable meal with their family, while the losing team recycles and plant trees. With only five chefs remaining, Chef Ramsay adds a shocking twist in the next dinner service.

Tonight’s show opens up where we left off last week and Chef tells all the remaining Chefs to get lost.  Susan is relieved she did not get sent home.  Susan meets with Ja’nel and asks her if she will ever change her opinion of her.

Jon feels like a rooster among the hens and he is a bit uncomfortable and has an uncomfortable night in the dorms.

Chef asks the remaining contestants if they are anxious to get their black jackets.  He tells the hopeful chefs that he has to do something first and he has a personal video for them, which he plays for them.

Chef asks them if they are ready for their first challenge and the challenge is too spend time with their family.  Their family members come in and all the contestants get all weepy.   They speak to their family about how they are feeling.

The contestants are nervous about what sort of crazy challenge there will be to get their black jackets.

Chef reminds the contestants there are only 4 black jackets, but 5 contestants left.  They he tells the contestants all 5 of them are going to get black jackets.  The contestants are thrilled.  Chef Ramsay proceeds to give each of the contestants their black jackets.  He then tells the contestants they have to say goodbye to their families because their next individual challenge is about to start.

The winner of tonight’s challenge gets to spend the afternoon with their family.   Tons of pressure cookers are pushed in, the next challenge is working with pressure cookers.

Chef is looking for someone who can cook a five star dish with an inexpensive cut of meat.

The cuts they get are:

Cyndi – Pork Roast

Jon – Lamb legs

Susan – Pork Belly

Ja’nel – Goat Ribs

Mary – Beef Short Ribs

They have 45 minutes to grab their pressure cooker and create a stunning 5 star dish.

Lesley Bargar Suter, dine editor of Los Angeles magazine and Nancy Silverton, chef/partner Osteria Mozza are the judges today.  They will be rated 1 -5 stars.  The one with the most stars wins.

Susan – 9 stars

Jon – 10 stars

Cyndi – 7 stars

Ja’nel – 14 stars

Mary – 15 stars – Mary Wins the Challenge and gets to see her family for the afternoon at Wolfgang Pucks’ restaurant.

For punishment the four contestants left will have to clean and jump in dumpsters and separate what is in it.  They are reconnecting with nature and working with, “Tree People.”

During the dumpster diving there are a lot of maggots and Ja’nel is having a lot of problems with it.  As they are dumpster diving Mary drives up.

After a long, sweaty day the contestants are ready to call it a night.  BUT, the phone rings and it is Chef Ramsay he wants them downstairs quickly.  He has to tell them something very very important.  Tomorrow night’s dinner service will be the most challenging they have ever had.  They will all work in one kitchen.  BUT, they will be up against another bunch of chefs, in the other kitchen.  Chef needs to know how good they really are.

The Chef is just about to introduce which Chefs they are up against and then we find out the show is continued NEXT WEEK.

So make sure to come back next week for our live recap next week.

THE END!!
