Felix tells Pan (still wearing his “Henry suit”) that he’s impressed that he outwitted the evil Queen (aka Regina) in a single day and Pan says it’s because she loves Henry. Pan says her love makes her weak. They find a place to cast the spell and Felix asks if they’ll all be dead and Pan says it will be worse – they will all be his slaves and it will be eternal.

Gold tells the others that the curse will fit Pan’s design and it’s unstoppable but Gold says it can be stopped by the person who crafted the scroll – that would be Regina. Pan says Regina’s curse will be child’s play compared to his. Gold tells her she has to destroy the scroll but there will be a steep price. Gold wants to have them lure Pan to them so they can swap bodies.

Pan says to finish the spell he needs the heart of the person he loves – he explains that love means loyalty and that Felix is the one who has always believed in him. Pan says he should be flattered and pulls his heart out while Felix screams.

Tink explains that Blue has the dark fairy’s wand and that will work the spell to swap Pan and Henry. If they swap them, the real Henry will be in possession of the scroll and can bring it to them. Pan puts the heart in with the other ingredients and the spell turns green and smoky.

Flashback to Snow talking to Blue about putting Emma in the enchanted tree. She worries that her daughter won’t know to save them and break the spell. Blue says she is sure that Emma will one day learn the truth and save them all. She tells Snow to have faith. Snow tells Charming they have to believe Blue.

Snow looks at the mobile they had made for Emma and cries because their plans have been ruined. She says the curse has ruined life for all of them. Charming says the curse is just a turn in their lives and won’t end anything. Snow says their happy ending was them raising their child and Charming says they will have to find another and unexpected happiness. Snow says she chooses hope and touches the unicorn on her daughter’s mobile.

Snow shows the mobile to a now grown Emma and she tells her mom she likes unicorns. Snow says she wonders what would happen if she didn’t have to give her up. Emma reminds her that she thinks the same thing every time she looks at Henry. She says he could have had a normal life back in Boston but says all that wasn’t meant to be.

Gold tells Henry that it won’t be much longer and all they need is the wand. Blue lies in her coffin and the other nuns look on her. Tink tells them they need the dark fairy’s wand. Pan’s shadow is beating at the windows of the church and Charming tells them it also wants the wands. Everyone runs to hide from the creature.

Flashback to Neverland, Hook and Smee are looking for the dagger that was hidden there to kill the dark one. Smee begs him to go back to the ship where it’s safe. Smee is taken down and then there’s a knife at Hook’s neck and it’s Tink threatening him. He tells her he’s not a Lost Boy and not on Pan’s side. He asks if she has anything magic and she says she’s fresh out. He says she’s a fairy and she says he’s a pirate. Hook asks her to help him and she asks why he isn’t more worried about her slitting his throat.

He tells her that’s not the fairy way – he said she should be helping him find a happy ending or something else precious. She tells him her wings were taken and he can find his own happy ending. He pulls out a flask and offers Tink rum. She drinks it and asks why he’s there. He tells her that the dark one murdered his love and he’s there for revenge. He says he would risk his life for love or revenge and now that his love is gone, vengeance will work.

Now – Hook and Neal make a plan to trap the shadow again and Tink says it will risk his life. She reminds him he said he would only risk his life for love or vengeance. Hook hops out to distract the shadow so they can trap it in the shell but he misses. The shadow is flying too high. They realize they need to get up closer and tell Tink to try and use her fairy dust. It works! She takes the shell and flies up to the shadow and traps it in the shell. She touches back down gracefully as the other watch, smiling. She tosses the shell into a fire bowl and destroys Pan’s shadow for good.

Hook tells her she’s still a fairy and she says he risked his life for love – for Emma. Blue is suddenly there and tells Tink she’s a fair again now since she earned them back many times over. When the shadow died it freed Blue so she’s back to them. She hands over the dark fairy’s wand and they run it to Gold. He says they only need one more item. He has an item he took from Greg and Tamara – it’s a bracelet that renders anyone magic powerless. Once Pan is back into his own body, he should be weak. Gold tells Henry that he’ll do the spell and he’ll go into a deep sleep and will wake up in his own body. Regina tells him to get the scroll and get it back to them as soon as he can.

Gold touches the dark fairy’s wand to Pan’s body and Henry’s spirit leaves it. As it does, the body convulses. Emma says – the spell worked! She tells Regina – let’s go find our son. Everyone rushes out and Belle asks Gold if he’s coming and he says no – that he and his father have unfinished business. Neal looks concerned but leaves to find his son anyway.

Flashback to Henry sitting outside school. Snow finds him there and asks why he didn’t turn in his homework. She asks if there’s a problem and promises him things will change. He tells her that his birth mom didn’t love him and he doesn’t belong in Storybrooke. Snow tells him he is loved. She tells him she has something to show him. She says she was cleaning out her bedroom closet and she found something she never noticed before – she says it was just there like magic and she had never seen it before.

It’s the fairy tale book. Snow tells him when she looked at the book she saw hope. Henry says it’s just fairy tales and she says they are all about hope and happy endings. Henry asks if he can borrow it and Snow tells him he can have it. She tells him to believe in the possibility of a happy ending. Henry thanks her and opens the book that starts with a picture of Snow and Emma.

Now – Red tells the gang she has Henry’s scent. They find him at the clock tower. Henry gives Regina the scroll and they tell her it’s up to her. She takes it in her hand. It flashes with magic and she collapses. Pan wakes in his own body and tells Gold he’s surprised he didn’t kill him in his sleep. Then he sees the armband to take away his magic. Gold tells him he just wants to talk to him and he wants him to thank about what he’s done.

Pan tells him that he remembers looking at him as a child all helpless and with big eyes full of tears. He says he was just a drain on his money, time and wanted to destroy his dreams. He asks when he will be free of his son and Gold says he can rest in death. Pan pulls the cuff off and says it won’t work on him since he made it. He throws it onto Gold and tells him to try it without magic. Pan throws him across the room and says his curse will destroy everyone and tells Gold then he’ll take his loved one’s lives. He tells Gold that without his magic he’s just a middle aged coward. Gold struggles with the cuff but can’t get it off!

Flashback to Gold when he held Belle captive. He lights a candle for Neal’s birthday when Belle comes in. He tells her to go away. She puts some flowers down and he tells her again to go away. She touches the jacket there and asks if he was holding a remembrance. She asks how hold he would have been and Gold tells her he’s lost not dead. He says it’s his son’s birthday and he should be with him celebrating but he was afraid. Belle says it may not be too late and he says his ending won’t be a happy one.

Now – Gold struggles some more with the magic cuff. He sees a sword. He grabs it and holds out his arm.

Regina comes to and asks what happened. They ask what happened and she says when she touched it she saw what needed to be done. She tells him that he will be okay. But then Pan appears and says Henry won’t be. He takes the curse back from them and begins making threats. Back in his shop, Gold tosses down the sword with a decisive look on his face.

Pan looks at Neal and Belle and says he can’t decide which one to kill first and decides on Neal. Gold grabs him and says to stop it. Pan says he would like to see him try to stop him. Gold says he knows what needs to be done has a price and he’s willing to pay that price. Gold tells Neal he loves him and then tells Belle he loves her too and says she made him stronger. Pan mocks him and says he doesn’t have magic. Gold says he lost his shadow too. He calls his shadow back to him and it comes bearing the knife that controls the power of the dark one. The shadow swirls into Gold and the dagger is then in his hand.

Gold grabs Pan in an iron grip and says he sees now the only way for Pan to die is for him to die too. He stabs the knife deep into Pan’s back and the magic swirls away from him. Pan turns into the old man he truly his. He begs his son to remove the dagger and says they can have a happy ending together. Gold says he’s a villain and villains don’t get happy endings. He stabs the knife deeper into his father and they are consumed in gold magical fire and they both disappear and only the curse is left behind.

Belle cries out Gold’s name and says – he’s gone. She’s devastated. Regina has the curse back in her hand and Emma asks if she’s okay. Neal says his father saved them. He tells Regina not to let his father die for nothing. Hook tells her the curse remains and needs to be stopped. The green cloud of dark magic boils out and Grumpy runs up and says it’s coming from all side and there is no escape.

Regina says she can stop it and Emma asks her what the price is. Regina says it’s her price to pay. She has to lose the feeling of when she first held Henry. She has to say good bye to the thing she loves most. Regina tells them all she has to break the original curse and Storybrooke will be gone as if it were never there and they will all go back to where they belong. Everyone will go except for Henry and Emma. Regina tells her she’s the savior and can escape the curse. Emma says they can all go back with them. Regina says it doesn’t work that way – she says she can never see Henry again. Snow tells Emma she has to go now.

Emma says she just found her parents and can’t lose them. Snow tells her they will always be a family and Charming tells her she and Henry can have their own happy ending together. Regina tells Emma she has only wanted her to go away so she could be alone with Henry and Regina says what she really wants is Henry to be happy so Emma has to take him and go. Emma reluctantly agrees.

Flashback – 11 years ago in Phoenix, Emma is giving birth. They tell her it’s a boy and she shakes her head, refusing to even look at him. The doctor tells her she can always change her mind and she says no.

Now – everyone hugs and Henry says this is his fault for going to get Emma. He says they could all be there if he hadn’t have got his mother. Regina tells him that it’s her fault for casting the spell. She tells her son that she’s a villain and villains don’t get happy endings. They are at the city line and Emma hugs Neal and he tells her she has to go. He tells her he will see them both again and that it’s not over. Hook tells Emma not a day will go by that he won’t think of her.

Regina pulls Emma aside and tells her that her memories will be affected – she says that Henry and Emma will both forget Storybrooke. Emma tells her it’s not much of a happy ending and Regina says she can do one thing for them – she says she can give them new memories like she did for the townspeople. Emma says they were all miserable and Regina says it didn’t have to be that way – she just made it that way. Regina tells her she will give her memories of never giving Henry up and they will have had a perfect life together. Henry hugs Regina tight and Emma cries as Snow hugs her one last time.

Emma and Henry get into her yellow VW bug and drive across the city line as their extended family watches them go. Regina unfolds the curse and begins to tear it with her hands. Her hands glow purple with magic and she holds them up to the sky. Purple clouds of magic billow but don’t quite reach Emma and Henry in the car. The cloud of magic flows through the town covering it.

Flashback – Emma is back at Henry’s birth and she tells the doctor to wait and asks to hold him. He takes him in her arms and smiles. She is enchanted with him.

Now – Emma smiles recalling that memory of when she fell in love with her son and decided to keep him.

One year later – the alarm clock goes off and Emma gets up and cooks breakfast for Henry. They have a nice mother son breakfast when there is a pounding at the door. She tells him to wait there and goes to see who it is. She opens the door and it’s Hook! He tells her he needs her help and that her family is in trouble. She says her family is right there. He tells her he can make her remember. He tells her he’s an old friend. He kisses her and she shoves him away. He was hoping it was a true love’s kiss thing. He begs her to believe him. She slams the door and tells him she’ll call the cops if he comes there again. She goes back to Henry and tells him it was nothing – that someone must have left the entry door open.
