On last week’s show when Rebekah arrived in New Orleans at her brother Elijah’s insistence, she met Hayley, who gave her some unexpected news. Concerned that her brother Klaus was up to no good, Rebekah sought help from a reluctant Sophie. At her wits’ end, Hayley took matters into her own hands, but things quickly took a dangerous turn. Determined to uncover Marcel’s secret weapon, Klaus stayedone step ahead and executed his plan. Meanwhile, after a run-in with Marcel, Rebekah was reminded of all the anger and disappointment Klaus had caused her throughout the years. Finally, Marcel enlisted Davina’s help in his own dangerous plan.

On tonight’s show after discovering interesting news about someone in Marcel’s inner circle, Klaus and Rebekah come together to attempt to unravel Marcel’s empire from within in spite of Elijah’s concerns. They enlist help from Sophie, who is reluctant to get involved for fear of the wrath of Marcel’s secret weapon, Davina. Rebekah sneakily invites an oblivious Cami to a huge vampire party thrown by Marcel, managing to anger Marcel in the process. Elsewhere, Hayley learns from the witch Sabine (guest star Shannon Kane) that the supernatural creatures of New Orleans are reacting to the potential existence of a hybrid baby. Chris Grismer directed the episode written by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson.

Elijah is narrating from back in August, 1959 discussing Klaus and Rebekah’s behavior. Hayley reads the pages he wrote (and is narrating). Hayley relates what he wrote back then to the events happening now.

Rebekah is offended that Klaus killed the vampires that were after Hayley without her. He said they were his responsibility because they tried to kill her. She asks if there is a plan or what. Klaus says that Marcel is his friend even though he’s trying to take everything back from him and he had to give Elijah to him to gain his trust. Rebekah says all they have to do is ask Marcel for Elijah back when the time is right. Klaus says he’s only telling her plan A and that there’s always a plan B.

Marcel tries on a new suit while Thierry tells him that their tracks are covered for the two humans that were “killed.” Marcel says that’s good because one is actually dead and the other is a vampire now. They talk about the ten nightwalkers that have been killed since the Originals came back in town. Klaus walks in and asks if he’s still hurt about the ones that he killed himself.

Thierry accuses Klaus and his family of killing more than he’s admitted and Klaus starts toward him. Marcel says they have to have peace because Klaus is his sire and guest and nothing is going to happen. He asks Klaus if he’s going to his party tonight and Klaus says he wouldn’t miss it. Klaus says Rebekah wants Elijah back but Marcel refuses to return him. He also tells Klaus that he would like to help him but his men are edgy enough as is because of the Originals being back in town and it wouldn’t look good on him as a leader.

Klaus calls Rebekah and tells her about Marcel saying no to giving Elijah back and asks if she’s going to deal with Sophie while he deals with the next phase of his plan – starting a war! He walks in to the room where Joshua, the vampire he compelled, is trying to drain the blood from their captive. Joshua says he’s no medieval torture expert. Klaus says they don’t have the time to do it slow and to take a quicker approach because of what the captive is going to do for them. He stabs their captive with a pitchfork and then compels Joshua to take over doing it to get all of his blood out ASAP.

Sophie and Rebekah meet and Rebekah asks her how the word got out about the werewolf in the Quarter. She says she doesn’t know and they walk into the voodoo shop and Rebekah tells her to watch and see how it’s done. Rebekah asks Katie, the shopkeeper who sold Hayley the wolf’s bane, if she told anyone else about it. She denies it, but after Rebekah chokes her she admits she’s in love with someone in Marcel’s inner circle, Thierry. She tells him that she’s not aware of their plan. Rebekah calls to share this news with Klaus who reminisces snarkily on a city of vampires and witches being in love and war and how tragic it is.

Hayley eavesdrops on Klaus and Rebekah asking Sophie for a favor. Klaus tells her about Marcel’s witch. Klaus says they don’t know where Davina is and they need magic to lure her out. Sophie says Katie doesn’t deserve to die and Klaus tells her that they can’t lose a war because they don’t want to make a few strategic losses. He brings up the story of her sister and how she didn’t try to escape before Marcel caught her. She says she was caught in a boat heading down the Mississippi.

Klaus asks who was in charge of the operation and Sophie says it was Thierry. Klaus talks to Marcel about the party and about the witches getting bold. He asks Marcel if the nightwalkers that are dying are being lured into traps. Marcel says they need to make an example and tells Thierry to take a crew to look into it and make it nasty.

Rebekah is talking with Cammie at a bar. She tells her about the charity event that Marcel is throwing and asks if she’d be interested in going. Cammie shrugs with a smile on her face. Rebekah calls Klaus and tells him that she’s sure Marcel will be properly distracted tonight with Cammie at the party. Klaus says he needs to ensure the motivation of the witches to help them and he’s making that happen right now.

Thierry and his crew head to Katie’s shop. He walks in by himself and tells her that he has to make it convincing so Marcel doesn’t find out that he’s in love with a witch. Klaus sends the captive vampire that he drained of vervain and compelled in after Katie while his crew is out there to get Thierry to kill another vampire. Klaus’s minion bites Katie and Thierry pulls him off of her and kills him which is against Marcel’s rules. Klaus sarcastically says “What’s worth dying for if not love?”

At Marcel’s extravagant charity event, Klaus walks in with Rebekah on his arm. Klaus says it’s certainly a fitting backdrop for tonight’s events. Klaus asks what Cammie is doing there. Rebekah tells her there’s no better way to keep Marcel distracted. Cammie and Klaus exchange compliments and Klaus tells her not to be fooled because he’s the devil in disguise.

Marcel tells Rebekah that it’s cute that she brought Cammie with her and that jealously looks good on her. Klaus is about to tell her something but then walks away as Marcel walks up. Marcel tells Cammie he would have invited her but it’s more of a work event. She says they’ve only been on one date so it’s okay and she’ll entertain herself. He says no way and grabs her hand.

Hayley walks around the pool when one of the witches shows up. She says her name is Sabine and Sophie asked her to keep her company while Klaus and Rebekah were at the party. She says the dog out by the edge of the brush is attracted to her because she and Klaus created something special (the baby). She also tells Hayley that she has a spell to help her relax.

One of Marcel’s vampires walks in and tells Marcel what happened during their walk through the Quarter while Marcel is dancing with Cammie. Marcel sees Thierry, walks up to him, grabs him by the throat and throws him up against the wall asking what the hell he did. Cammie sees and looks upset.

Katie is crying with Sophie. Katie wants to save Thierry and Sophie says she wants to protect her people. She says there’s only one way to do both. They cast a spell that brings Davina out of her sleep saying Marcel’s name and that something is coming. As Katie and Sophie are casting the spell, Davina senses that magic being used.

Thierry tells Marcel what happened and Marcel says that he turned the vampire who attacked Katie himself and that she is a witch and he was vampire and you don’t kill your own kind. Thierry pleads to him that he’s still Marcel’s friend and he swears it hasn’t changed.

Klaus walks up next to Cammie and asks if she’s alright. She says that Marcel has a temper. Klaus hands Joshua an envelope to give to Marcel saying the he found it at his girl’s place. Marcel says that he got a spell that he keeps locked up. He says a friend does not steal from him or betray him and sentences Thierry to one-hundred years in the gardens.

Klaus says to himself, “And so it begins.”

Rebekah is with Sophie telling her that the spell she is about to use is the only way to save Elijah.

Marcel and his vampires walk Thierry out of the party when they see Katie in the road destroying the block. Klaus says “like clockwork.” Katie attacks Marcel while Davina tries to support him. Katie knocks Marcel down to the ground as he walks toward her. Davina falls over as well in pain. Katie is about to put a stake through Marcel when Klaus rushes down and breaks her neck.

Sophie’s spell stops when Katie is killed and she tells Rebekah that she can keep it going. Rebekah tells her not to risk it with Davina there. She says she has to finish when Rebekah throws her parchment and tools off the table and says that she may be willing to die but she’s not going to let her sacrifice Hayley and the baby and if they die there’s no point in saving Elijah anyway. Marcel gets up and looks at Thierry holding holding Katie’s dead body. He looks over to Klaus and nods to him for saving his life.

Thierry is in shackles. Marcel asks him was she worth it. Thierry says he loved her. Marcel stakes him to the wall and tells the other vampire to seal him up with bricks and cement and let him rot. Klaus brings Marcel a drink out on the balcony. He asks Klaus how much Cammie saw. He says that she just saw an argument and it’s nothing he can’t fix. Klaus asks him if he really likes her. He then says he’s sorry about Thierry. Marcel says that his trust was obviously misplaced but Klaus says it doesn’t make it any easier.

Marcel says giving his brother back is the least he can do for what he did for him tonight.

Klaus meets Cammie at a bar. She thinks he’s there to speak up for Marcel. He says that someone didn’t just break her heart but broke her trust as well. They share a moment staring at each other, but Klaus says he’s sorry but she needs to give Marcel another chance. He then compels her saying that she had a perfect evening at Marcel’s party and will forget everything bad that she saw.

Rebekah says that tonight was a disaster but Klaus says it was quite a work of art. He says because of what he did for Marcel he has him exactly where he wants him. Rebekah is offended because she trusted him and he killed Katie. He says to wake up and realize that the witches are only out for themselves. She says that it’s not going to help them get Elijah back. He says that she still has no faith and tells her that he gained Marcel’s trust to the point of him giving Elijah back and soon he’ll have Davina in his hands. Rebekah tells him that he disgusts her and he always gets what he wants no matter what it costs everyone else and walks away.

Marcel walks in to find Davina glad that he’s okay. He tells her that it was actually Klaus who saved him and he’s going to give Elijah back to him. Davina says no. She’s not going to give him back until she knows how to kill the Originals.

Klaus tells Hayley that Elijah will be back with them soon and she says that his plotting and scheming is getting him what he wants. He asks how she can miss Elijah when they just met. She says it’s because he was kind to her.

Rebekah walks down the street and runs into Marcel. He walks into her like he’s going to kiss her and stops. She says he’s following her and he says maybe she’s just in his way.

Sophie lays Katie’s body to rest. The other witches say that they knew nothing good would come of this unholy alliance with the vampires and the werewolf. Sophie discovers that when Sabine was with Hayley and checked on the baby that she was temporarily possessed and was speaking a language that Hayley didn’t know. She’s trying to look it up with no success.
