Damon’s tied to a tree in obvious pain while Vaughn the hunter cooks up a juice squirrel for breakfast. Yum! Vaughn’s using something to drain Damon’s energy and keep him pinioned. Vaughn says he’s been killing vampires for years but his tattoo never grew until three days ago when it blossomed. Damon gets sassy and the guy stabs him in the neck and says he’d better stop talking.

Elena talks to Caroline and tells her Damon has been taken and that Shane has taken Bonnie and Jeremy and gone rogue. They have photos of the tattoo and need Klaus’ hunter sword to translate the photos so they can catch up to Shane. They discuss that Klaus won’t likely give up the sword, but since he’s stuck by Bonnie’s spell in Elena’s house, Caroline is free to search his.

Bonnie and Jeremy follow Shane and the native dude into the cave where the shaft is. Turns out native dude is in it for a payment. He wants his reward so he can leave and Shane hands him the tombstone as payment. Bonnie’s outraged and Shane explains that the tombstone has Qetsiyah’s blood in it and he says to certain witches, it’s worth more than the Hope diamond.

Caroline and Tyler come back to Elena’s with the sword they’ve found in Klaus’ attic. He mocks them and says it won’t help them. Tyler found something on the handle – it’s a cryptex – but it’s in Aramaic. He mocks them for not knowing the language the map is written in – he tells them it could take them days or weeks and then says something in another language. Caroline asks what it means and he says “If only you spoke Aramaic.” Obviously he does.

Elena tells Stefan that she’s feeling awful because once again everyone is in danger because she can’t handle being a vampire. She asks him why he didn’t tell her that he wanted the cure for himself. He tells her it wasn’t about her – that he’s been wanting his human life back for years. Rebekah watches Elena and Stefan chat, very unhappy.

Vaughn tells Damon his master plan – he wants to wake and kill Silas so he’ll be free of being a hunter. Damon tells him they don’t give a damn about Silas – they just want the cure. Vaughn tells him he’s an idiot. Vaughn tells him he has to give Silas the cure to be able to kill him. He says they can’t have it.

Caroline translated the message to Aramaic but doesn’t get it. Klaus translates the message for her. Klaus reads the last piece in Aramaic while Vaughn says it in English to Damon – there is only one dose!

Jeremy and Bonnie are at the bottom of the cave and she’s injured. Her hand is bleeding from the blood sacrifice. Jeremy wants to know what will happen when the spell is cast and there’s nothing blocking Silas from Shane. Bonnie promises she won’t let Shane raise Silas and promises she will kill Shane if he tries to harm either of them. Meanwhile, Bonnie’s blood is leaching into the floor of the cave and magic is afoot.

Caroline and Klaus email a photo of the tattoo and a map. Rebekah asks Klaus why he’s helping. He says he wants her happy and she doesn’t believe it. He tells her he hopes she gets to live and die as she wishes. Klaus blurts out that there’s only one dose of the cure and says she needs to grab it first. Caroline rushes to hang up the phone, but Rebekah heard. Tyler looks on stunned.

Tied up Damon is being marched through the woods by Vaughn while Damon tells him the terrible things he’s going to do to him once he’s free. Damon admits he wants is friends to get the cure but doesn’t give a damn about it personally. He asks Vaughn why he saved Elena and Jeremy from the big crazy guy the night before and Vaughn pretends to not know what he’s talking about.

Damon says we’re on an island and there’s you, me and a few other people – but Vaughn insists it’s not him. They come upon a corpse that neither of them can take credit for and Vaughn says he reckons there really is someone else on the island with them.

Shane threatens Bonnie and says if anything happens to him, bad things will happen to her. They are looking for the magic passage she needs to open and Shane finds a geometrically perfect circle carved in the stone.

Elena asks Rebekah what Caroline says and Reb says she lost the signal. There’s a huge ravine to jump into and Stefan tells Elena to go first. She jumps and lands the 200 feet down safely. Once Elena is gone, Rebekah tells Stefan there’s something he needs to know about the cure.

Bonnie is getting ready to do her expression and Jeremy is shirtless so she can see the tattoo. He reminds her that she’s in control. She touches him and concentrates – they are standing on the stone circle. She focuses and the tattoo begins to disappear from his arm and chest. Rocks begin to fall all around them in the cave.

Meanwhile in the woods, Vaughn gets a tingle and pulls up his sleeve where there’s a tattoo wriggling. He tells Damon that it looks like his witch is casting a spell.

Rebekah tells Stefan about the single dose and he asks if she thinks Klaus is telling the truth. Stefan says he was dumb to hold out hope. She asks him if she gave him the cure for himself would he give it to Elena. He nods yes. She tells him she’s sorry it didn’t work out and breaks his neck.

In the cave, in the rubble, Jeremy screams for Bonnie who says she’s fine. She says it worked. There is an opening. Shane asks for help – he says his leg is broken. She tells him to stay off it. He screams for help and they ignore him and walk away.

Damon and Vaughn make it to the entrance to the cave. Vaughn and Damon discuss who will kill whom. Damon doesn’t want to kill him because of the hunter’s mark. Damon tells him he’s going to kill him and get to the cure and give it to the woman he loves. Rebekah shows up. Uh-oh.

Elena and Stefan come back to life near the cliff. He tells her there’s just one dose and she says maybe it’s for the best. She said even if she was human again, she’d never be the person she was. Elena says she needs to accept the person she is now and learn to live her life. He reminds he she’s sired to Damon and she says she’ll have to deal with that later.

Then they both remember Klaus. Bonnie’s spell is holding him but they need the single dose of the cure to use on him so he doesn’t kill them all. Back in Mystic Falls, Caroline promises Tyler that she’ll protect him from Klaus. He’s freaking out. She asks for a chance to try to talk to Klaus. She begs him to let her fix it. She wants to save him.

The hunter attacks Rebekah with a wood stake grenade and she goes down. Wonder if he thinks she’s really dead or knows that won’t do much but slow her down? Then he’s after Damon but Stefan shows up and Vaughn grabs the belay line and leaps down the shaft into the cave.

Stefan struggles to pull the silver garotte off of Damon and orders Elena to go ahead and says they’ll catch up. Jeremy and Bonnie are headed into the cave they opened and he says he’s glad they’re there together. She tells him it’s to the right – where she sees her Grams. She asks why she’s there and Grams says it’s a place where the living can talk to the dead and that Silas can bring her back to Bonnie if she can reach him and feed him. Jeremy tells her that it’s not the ghost of her Grams – if it was, he would be able to see it too. He tells her it’s a hallucination.

She’s crying and asks what happened. He tells her Silas was in her head, trying to control him. Bonnie concludes that’s how Silas manipulated Shane – by using images of his wife. Jeremy tells her to close her eyes and that he’ll guide her there.

Caroline comes to Klaus to ask for Tyler’s life. He tells her has to so he can uphold his reputation and tells her that he really want to kill him. She asks him to let Tyler live far away from him. Klaus says he won’t let him live a happy life after he’s turned all his hybrids against him and made it his mission to find the cure to use it against him. Caroline says we all want the cure and Klaus asks her if she would take it. He tells her that she prefers herself as a strong, ageless, fearless vampire. He tells her they’re the same. She says ‘show me’. She tells him he knows how much she loves Tyler – she begs for his compassion. He tells her to tell him to leave town immediately and run and hide and he’ll give him a head start. That’s all.

Damon is down and groggy and tells Stefan to go ahead and help her. He says Elena wants the cure and he should go and help her and be with her if that’s what will make her happy. Stefan goes. Elena is down in the caves lost. She hears rocks being tossed and then voices.

Caroline is crying, telling Tyler what Klaus said. She asks him how many times they’re going to have to say goodbye. He says at least they get to say a proper good-bye. She’s inconsolable as he kisses her. She won’t stop kissing him. Tyler pulls away and leaves while she continues to sob.

Stefan finds Shane in the cave. Shane asks for some of his blood and Stefan threatens him. He asks if Shane knew there was only one dose and he says no, that everything he said and did was just to bring back his family. Stefan tells him his hope is gone and walks away while Shane begs for mercy. Shane sees his dead wife and he tells her he’s sorry he failed her. She tells him he didn’t and that everything will be just fine.

Bonnie and Jeremy find Silas’ burial chamber and the small bottle of the cure. He asks her how it’s supposed to cure every vampire in the world and she says it’s not supposed to. Jeremy tries to break it loose of Silas’ fingers but can’t. Bonnie says he’s frozen and the only way to get the cure out of his hands is to feed him blood and wake him up.

Damon is pulling wooden doo-dads out of Rebekah and she comes around. She asks why he’s there instead of with Elena – she asks if he gave up. He tells her he needed a siesta and had to make peace that he can’t control everything. She tells him he loves Elena and that if she turns back human and doesn’t love him anymore that he’ll never have peace. She tells him he did something selfless and is being a decent human.

Bonnie collapses as she is stabbed in the back by Vaughn who tells Jeremy they have to raise Silas. Jeremy runs screaming for Bonnie. Vaughn says he’s going to raise Silas and he slices his arm above him. Jeremy goes postal on him and they fight. Vaughn says the cure was meant to be used on Silas only. Vaughn beats him down and asks him who else he would use it for. He realizes he wants it for his sister, He tells him nothing personal. Elena rushes in and is about to off Vaughn when Jeremy reminds her about the hunter’s curse and she throws him down and rushes to Jeremy.

At Elena’s, Klaus walks out the front door and Caroline asks how he got loose. He tells her that something bad has probably happened to Bonnie. He tells her he’s shown kindness, forgiveness and pity because of her – he says it was all for her. He’s teary then he stalks away.

Stefan is roaming the caves and finds a trail of blood. He hears a moan and finds Elena. She tells him “she’s here.” Whoa – Elena is also in the burial room – two places at once? Nope – it’s Katherine! That’s the extra person on the island! The bitch is back!!

She’s pretending to be Elena but then snaps and tears Jeremy’s arm and drips it onto Silas. Then she bites his neck and shoves him down onto Silas’ mouth and he starts to feed. He drains him and throws him aside. Is Jeremy dead? Is Silas alive?
