Emily tortures her captive and asks him to tell her who hired him to hurt David. She has a hot poker but stops when her tablet alerts her someone is at the front door. She goes to answer and finds Ben there. He says he just wanted to see her and she says it’s late for a drop by – after midnight. He asks her for just two minutes and she agrees and goes outside to talk to him. He says he’s been wanting to ask her out for a while. Emily says she’s not dating right now and he says that was less than two minutes.

He leaves. Jack chats up Kate at the end of what looks like a date. He says he needs to go and she says his nanny is there and she offers to ice the bruises from his bar fight. They go to kiss and her phone rings. She says Uncle Sam has terrible timing. She says to pull the security tapes and gets off the line. She tells him David Clarke was attacked and they head out. Chief Alvarez escorts David and Victoria home after the attack.

Victoria says she was unconscious and doesn’t remember anything. Alvarez says David beating back two assailants is impressive. He tells them they have one of the attackers and hope to have the second soon. He leaves. Victoria asks what’s going on and then tells him she wants them to have the life they deserve including Amanda. He says that’s what he wants to and says they’ll get through it. Emily comes back to her captive and opens a tool box and tells him she’s going to skip ahead.

She asks who hired him and what do they want. He says he doesn’t know. She chokes him with a chain and he says he never met the guy but he had major connections and seemed to have an in with the cops. He says his partner Pete handled it. They have him at the station but as Jack and Kate go in to talk to Pete, they see he’s hung himself. They call for assistance to cut the guy down but he looks dead.

Nolan finds Louise sunning herself. He leaves a message for Emily asking why her security system keeps resetting himself. Louise tells him he takes care of his friends like family like Southerners do. He gives her a bloody Mary and chats her up. She tells him her mom called her psycho and sent her away. She tells him you never forget your first mental institution. She says her dad wrote her letters and he says he heard that he drank himself to death.

She says that’s the story they tell. She says she’s late and asks him to call her later then heads off. Jack sees Emily outside the police station and asks about David. She says he’s fine then asks what he knows about his attackers. He tells her the guy killed himself in interrogation. She asks what it’s not on the news and he says Alvarez is clamping down. She asks if he’s sure he really killed himself and says they were thugs for hire, not true believers.

He realizes she was there and says she can’t keep hiding. He tells her they’re pulling security tapes and she says she won’t show up on them. Nolan calls Margaux and tells her to dig into Louise’s dad’s death. She agrees and tells him to finish hacking Louise’s sealed records. Daniel brings Margaux breakfast but she doesn’t want to hear it. She says she needs a man who doesn’t make rash decision. He tells her she had that with Jack but it wasn’t what she wanted.

David comes to Nolan and tells him he owes him an apology. Nolan says he owes him a new cell phone, 23,000 Twitter followers and a restored reputation. Nolan tells him he knows David was lying about the silo and that Emily was fighting for him. David says he told Emily to back off because of the danger and asks for Nolan to watch out for her. He says he always does. Nolan says Emily is being weirdly quiet today and tells David to trust Emily.

Nolan checks out her security system and sees that a bunch of her cameras at the house have been deactivated. Daniel finds his mom in his apartment. She tells him she’s not alone any more. She says even after Emily reunited with David she still has him. She says there will be no blow back but Daniel says to wait. She says she’s going to make it work with Emily in her life and says she just wants peace in her life with David. He asks if she wants him in her Norman Rockwell picture.

He tells her their whole relationship is built on lies and tells her that David will choose Emily and then she’ll crush her. She’s surprised to hear he’s talking to Emily again and tells him no matter what, she won’t lose David. Emily comes home and finds her prisoner has escaped. She’s not happy. Nolan tells her he set the guy free and she says he had no right. He tells her the guy won’t be back. He tells her that David came to apologize to him.

She says the second attacker was hanged and she thinks Alvarez may have done it. Nolan says he won’t help her and neither will anyone else who know what she’s up to. Victoria is surprised to see that David shaved. She says they should talk about Amanda. He tells her he asked her to stay away for awhile. She asks if Amanda was there during the attack and he lies and says no. He tells her not to ask about the attack and she agrees.

Kate says the cameras were disabled in Victoria’s room so that’s a dead end. She says she sent some people over to talk to people. Jack says Ben wants to help and Kate says to send him to talk to Emily. He says he already talked to Emily and she doesn’t know any more than they do. She agrees to check her off the list. Emily meets with Ben for a drink and he says he’s surprised she called. She says it was the end of a long day. He says he made a dinner reservation somewhere nicer but she says no.

She congratulate him on solving Grayson’s murder and he says casually that he was surprised Alvarez put Jack on the case with the feds. He says he wants to talk about her, not work. She says she has to maintain her mystery and he says it does seem like she doesn’t date much. He offers a game of darts with winner getting to ask a question. He says he’s a dart throwing king. He tosses one close to center and then she bullseyes. She says he has to do all the talking.

Victoria goes to talk to Alvarez about the attack in her hospital room. He tells her they’re looking for a connection between the attackers and Vince Walsh, Conrad’s killer. He says they found the guy a week or so ago and is surprised David didn’t tell her. He advises her to stay away from David until it’s safer but she says she’s where she’s meant to be. He says he would hate for her to be in the wrong place at the wrong time again.

Victoria calls someone and says she needs to find out who hired a local thug named Vince Walsh. Nolan meets up with Louise again – she seems glum. She offers him a drink and says they’re toasting him for being such a good liar. He looks at her strangely and asks why Margaux’s people called her brother asking about their dad. She says where she’s from you claim the deer you shot and asks why he’s working with Margaux digging into her past.

He says it’s complicated. He tells her Margaux is helping her restore his reputation and she asks if he’s doing it at the price of his. She says it’s taken her years of therapy to restore her mind and he’s going to destroy it with one story. She tells him he protects his friends like family so now she knows where she stands. She leaves. Victoria asks David why he didn’t tell her about Walsh and asks if he planted the knife on her. He’s angry that she went to Alvarez.

She says he’s keeping secrets and he says that’s pretty ironic since she lied and kept his daughter from him for weeks. She says she won’t explain herself to him and asks why he asks her to constantly prove herself. He says he’s asked for nothing. He tells her he sat 10 years in jail and asks where the hell she was then. She says September 1, 1993 was in her mind – the day they were supposed to leave with Amanda and Daniel and start their new life.

She says when she looked into Charlotte’s eyes and saw his, she thought of that date. She says she would go with him now tonight if he asked. She tells him to ask but he says he’s not going anywhere without his daughter. Emily and Ben shoot pool next.  He asks for mercy and she says she offers none. He says that reminds him of his ex-wife. He says they were way too young and that one day he woke up and she was gone.

She asks how he moved on and he says he buried himself in work, graduated at the top of his class. She asks about Alvarez helping him. He says he met him back in Jersey and she asks why Alvarez left and he says there was a suspicion about how he handled a case. He asks if she’s publishing an expose and she says she’s just curious. He reaches for her face and she grabs his hand. He says it’s clear this is not a date. He says he’ll take care of the bar tab and they can call it a night. He walks off.

Kate abuses a vending machine angrily and Ben asks what that thing did to her. She says it ate her dollar and kept her carbs. He rattles the machine and her bag of goodies falls. He says someone is cleaning up as they go. She says she was called back to DC since there is no new evidence. She says she’s leaving in the morning and asks him to have a drink with her. He says he can’t tonight. Kate tells him she sees he’s a very careful person. She asks what about him.

She says he wanted to sail to Haiti and says work will be here tomorrow but she won’t. He looks thoughtful. David goes to the silo and pulls out some rocks and uncovers a safe. He smiles. We see Victoria and David kissing, back in the past, and the safe was in the room with stacks of cash on it. She tells David that Conrad doesn’t know she took $5 million. He says he’ll notice but they’ll be gone. They agree on September 1st.

She says she’ll choose the code to the safe and he can hide it then they’ll open it together. She loads the cash into the safe and she tells him to turn around. She sets the code. David opens the safe and sets a flash drive into it and relocks the safe. Nolan looks online at info about Louise’s dad when David shows up. He tells him he’s heading out of town. He says if he doesn’t make it back, he wants Nolan to make sure the contents of the safe get to every news outlet.

Nolan says if David wants him to trust him again, he needs to tell him what’s going on. David says Malcolm Black, an arms dealer, is the guy coming after him. He says Malcolm smuggled him to Canada and forced him to launder money to keep Amanda safe. He says he took evidence and leverage to show it. He says he has to go let Malcolm know he’s got that leverage to get him to back off. Nolan tells him that Emily had the other attacker.

He says he let the guy go but installed a tracker in the guy. He says he’s in Newark and offers to loan David his helicopter to pick the guy up. David tells him he’s a good friend and Nolan says he has few so he doesn’t take them for granted. At the club, Emily asks for Nolan but he’s not there. Daniel is and he tells Emily he thinks their parents are actually in love. She tells him to go away and asks if she was out on a date.

She tells him she’s not in the mood for this and he says what – having an honest conversation. He says they didn’t work out because they are the same people – stubborn users who don’t give a damn. He tells her he sees her and asks who she’s hurting these days. He says Margaux wants nothing more to do with them since he’s an ass. She says she won’t prop him up and tells him to go fight for Margaux because he fights for nothing.

He says she really does look pretty tonight and he hopes whoever she’s working isn’t wearing his heart no his sleeve. The attacker is on the ferry when David sits down beside him. The guy denies knowing Malcolm but David says he knows he attacked him for Black last night. He hands him a paper and says to get that to Malcolm or he’ll keep finding him. Victoria meets with her guy who tells her that Black hired Vince Walsh.

He says the guy is crazy and says the order was to take David in alive because David owes him a bunch of money. Victoria says there’s another solution and gives him a photo of Emily she’s written on. It’s hard to read but looks like it says “the answer is Emily Thorne.” She asks the guy to get it to Black without her name being mentioned. Her guy says he can take care of it.

Margaux tells Nolan she’s getting impatient and says one of her reporters called Louise’s brother so he’s out. She says she can’t deal with the wishy washy. He says he can’t help her do the same thing she did to him with David. She says the deal to fix his rep is over and he says he only cares what his friends think anyway. She slams down the phone and says to run the piece on the Ellises anyway. Daniel is there and says he’s going to fight for her.

She asks if he showed up drunk to fight and she says that’s the bare minimum. She says she asked him to stay away and he tells her to stop thinking about work. He says he’s not like her dad but she says this is over. He asks why it’s over and she says she’s pregnant. David comes home and finds Victoria waiting. He says she’s right about keeping secrets. She says to tell her what he can. He says he was with a man more dangerous than Conrad for the past 10 years, not in the silo.

Emily finds Ben shooting hoops. She tells him he was right, it wasn’t a date. She says she wanted info on Alvarez and used his interest in her to get it. She says she had someone too and lost him. He says he’s sorry to hear that. He says he just thinks she never lets a guy win at anything and asks what she’s not good at. He hands her the basketball and she sinks one. She says she’s no good at dating and still owes him.

He tells her they can get the interview out of the way before their date. He asks what she wants to know. She says she’s looking into the attack on David Clarke and says one was arrested. Ben says he killed himself but she says she thinks someone killed him. He asks what David Clarke means to her and she says his daughter means a lot to her. He tells her Alvarez isn’t dirty but he says he ran into Alvarez last night. He says he was coming from David’s beach house last night and gave Ben a ride.

Ben tells her only Alvarez and the feds had access and Alvarez wasn’t there. Kate gets room service and the pic of Emily with Victoria’s note is delivered with it. There’s a knock at her door. It’s Ben. He steps inside and kisses her. Her towel falls to the ground and it’s on.

THE END!
