Star-Crossed RECAP 2/24/14: Season 1 Episode 2 “These Violent Delights Have Violent Ends”

Tonight on the CW their new series STAR-CROSSED continues with a new episode called, “These Violent Delights Have Violent Ends.”  On tonight’s episode the Emery tries to reach out to Roman after the tragedy at the sector.

On last week’s premiere/pilot episode When Emery Whitehill was 6 years old, an alien spacecraft crash-landed in her small town and she met Roman, a 6-year old Atrian boy, who sought refuge with her before being taken away by the authorities. Ten years later, the two are reunited as the first group of Atrian teens is about to enroll in high school in a widely scrutinized social experiment to see if humans and Atrians can live in peace. Both Emery and Roman are surprised at the small-mindedness of their respective communities. Roman’s sister, Sophia (Brina Palencia), is excited to make new friends, but their fellow Atrians, Teri and Drake, openly distrust all humans. The human students are equally wary of the aliens, especially the school’s queen bee Taylor. Kind-hearted Grayson is drawn to Emery but has a secret that could threaten their new friendship. Only two of Emery’s friends – Julia and Lukas, seem able to accept the Atrians. Emery and Roman find themselves drawn together again but outside forces work hard to keep them apart.

On tonight’s episode Roman (Matt Lanter) and Sophia (guest star Brina Palencia) prepare for a funeral. Roman is surprised and suspicious when his Uncle Castor (guest star Johnathon Schaech) shows up in the sector offering to help the family. Meanwhile, Emery (Aimee Teegarden) tries to talk to Roman about what happened, but he doesn’t want anything to do with her. Upset, Emery turns to Grayson (Grey Damon). Meanwhile, the Atrian Seven are invited to the school carnival. However, the fun ends after Drake (Greg Finley) is kidnapped and Roman finds out the Trags are preparing a hit on Emery and her family at the carnival. Gary Fleder directed the episode written by Meredith Averill.

At the Atrian sector, at night, a piece of contraband changes hands, then something is added to it and it’s handed off again then slipped into a human security guy’s bag. He tosses the bag to another guard on the gate and then it explodes spectacularly!

At Emery’s, they watch a news story on the attack in the Sector and the reporter says it’s a militant group responding to the death of Nox – the Atrian leader. Emery frets and says her Dad didn’t kill Nox on purpose. She says she wants to explain it to Roman and Julia says it won’t be that simple. Emery says they need to celebrate Julia beating cancer and she says she’ll be able to come back to school in a few days after her “miracle” cure. Julia says she remembers a blue angel curing her.

Sophia and Roman are crushing cyper for his funeral. She asks why they have to keep it secret. Maia and Castor tell them they have to keep it secret that the plant and their blood can cure humans. Castor says they’ll be lab rats if humans know. Roman is disgusted that the militants are using Nox’s death as an excuse to recruit.

Roman is also aggravated that Castor has taken over preparations for Nox’s funeral which is his duty as son. Sophia begs her brother to give him a chance.

At school, the principal tells the students that they are heightening security after the death of Nox and the militant activity. Taylor complains that all this could get homecoming cancelled. She tells the Atrians they should all go home. Lukas asks Emery about her Dad and she says that the shooting has been misunderstand.

She finds Roman after class and begs him to listen and tells him she’s sorry that he’s in pain. She asks to thank him and he asks for what. She shows him the crumpled Cyper leaf and says she found it in Julia’s room. He denies helping Julia and tells her they can’t pretend they’re not from two different worlds. The security guy hassles Roman and tells him to get on the bus to go back to the Sector.

Emery’s Dad Ray announces that he’s taking a leave of absence after the shooting. Beaumont says they are launching random pod searches in the Sector. Gloria tells the crowd they need to work on making peace between the races. Robert Vartan (of the Red Hawk Group) says the Atrians are planning on colonizing the Earth and says Atrians have figured out how to get rid of their tats so they can blend in and hide among the humans.

There is debate over homecoming and the board (except for Gloria) votes no Atrians at the event. She’s disappointed. Emery speaks up and says the Atrian 7 aren’t terrorists, they’re teenagers. She says the Atrians have no reason to trust the humans and they need to give them a reason to trust them.

News crews are flocking at the fences around the Sector. Roman is called into see the Elders of the four tribes. The leaders tell Roman that Nox had big plans for him. They tell him that many still support Nox’s message of non-violent integration. They tell him that he is the next in line to lead his tribe and tell him they will appoint an interim leader until he’s ready. Castor says he’s volunteered for this spot. Roman says Castor is not the person to carry on his father’s message. He tells them if they want to stop the violence, Castor is not right for the job. Castor and Roman stare each other down and then Roman says he’ll take the leadership role himself.

At a restaurant, Lukas tells Emery he uploaded her speech about the carnival to his blog. Zoe comes up and tells her that her speech was badass but others aren’t happy with her.

Roman and Castor argue about him taking over his Dad’s spot. Roman says he can control the Trags and that for all he knows, Castor still is one of them.

Emery brings fried pickles to Grayson as an apology for leaving him at the party. He tells her he understands how Roman is probably feeling because he lost his brother in action on Arrival Day 10 years ago. Emery thanks him for telling her. She leaves when she sees Julia. She saw the video and says Emery is her hero. Taylor comes in and puts up announcements about the carnival. Julia asks to volunteer and she agrees since some people are boycotting because of the Atrian 7 presence. Taylor tells them politics doesn’t belong at school events.

Roman and Teri chat. He wants to know what the Trags are up to and she says it’s Initiation Night for new recruits. Roman walks in on their new recruit jam session. Roman pretends to sign on with the Trags to find out where their weapons cache is.

Gloria and Saul watch Emery’s viral video. He tells her the parents are angry and want the Atrians kicked out of school for good. Saul tells her the town may burn the school and Gloria says she has the funding to build him a new one. She orders him to overrule the board and allow the Atrians to come to the carnival. Eric slams his locker in anger and Taylor tells Emery that his Dad’s business was shut down because it was too close to the Atrians.

Emery asks Roman to come to the carnival with her and he tells her they’ll both be safer if they stay apart. Sophia also asks Roman to go and he also tells her to forget it. He says he has to meet with the Trags to stop their antics and she begs him to be careful. Drake’s going to the carnival to look for another way out of the Sector. Teri agrees. Sophia says they need to follow Nox’s lead and live in peace but the others are too worried that the humans will wipe them out. Roman sees some Trags headed out with a suspicious bag and follows them to a train car.

He peeks in and sees Hadar order them to target Emery’s family at the carnival to strike back over Nox’s killing. Roman is shocked. He finds Castor and tells him about the plot. Castor asks if he can stop it and Roman tells him that Hadar is also planning on arming Trags inside the Sector. Roman tells him if he wants to prove to him that he’s changed, he has to stop Hadar in the Sector while Roman goes to the carnival to stop the attack. Castor promises to help.

Julia is scanning tickets when Lukas and Emery show up to the carnival. Julia says everyone is on edge waiting on the Atrians to show up. Grayson shows up then and gives Emery a flirty smile. Lukas points out the Atrians – all seven are there and Emery is thrilled. Taylor scans them in and Drake flirts with her. She smiles flirtily. Armed guards escort the alien teens in as the humans stare openly. A girl coems up and hands Teri a bracelet. She takes it and thanks her, smiling.

Sophia teases Lukas about his poor balloon animal skills and he tells her he’s sorry about her Dad. He says he’s keeping them in his prayers and she says she forgot humans did that. He invites her to ride the bumper cars. Roman spots the Trags when Emery shows up. He tells her that she needs to leave now and tells her she’s in danger. He tells her about the Trags targeting her family. She says there are plenty of guards and she’s safe in the crowd.

Taylor tells Grayson to forget Emery and he says she likes dark and mysterious so that’s what he needs to be.

Emery shows Roman the rock where all students leave a handprint. He says it can’t last forever since human rocks weather. She dips her hand in paint and then paints his with hers and they press their palms to the rock. She tells him that in many ways, they are the same. He tells her she has the same kind of faith his father had. He says that feels good to him.

Teri comes up and says she’s lost Drake and is worried. Roman tells Emery to stay near the guards and heads off with Teri. Emery wanders around and then notices some unusual activity. Grayson joins her and asks if she’s having fun. She asks why Eric is on trash duty and he says he doesn’t know what she’s talking about. That alarms her and she runs off.

Roman follows someone out a back gate and sees them take aim at Emery. He tackles the guy – it’s Beaumont! They struggle. He realizes that Beaumont is an Atrian who’s had his marks removed. He says that killing Emery and her family will send a strong message. Roman asks how many there are and he tells him many.

Emery and Grayson find Eric has kidnapped Drake. Then Vartan and the Red Hawks show up and call Emery a race traitor. They want to take Drake with them but Grayson pulls a knife and they back down.

Roman tells Beaumont to back down and he threatens his life but then the would-be assassin stands down and tells Roman that someone is always watching him.

Emery and Grayson untie Drake and he tells Grayson if he tells anyone about it, he’s dead. Emery stares at the knife and Grayson says it was his brother’s and puts it up. She says she’s shake up and puts his arm around her.

Julia finds Roman and tries to talk to him but he rushes off. She touches him and her arm lights up neon blue with her veins. She stares at it and Lukas comes up and asks if she saw a ghost and she says – maybe an angel…

At Nox’s Atrian-style funeral, everyone comes to pay respects to their dead leader. The mourners spread small flowers and herbs on his shrouded body.  Roman finds Castor there and asks where he was last night and if he stopped Hadar. Castor tells him that he was raided and shipped off. Roman asks how he did it and he says that he convinced some newer Trags to turn him in to gain power for themselves. Roman tells Castor about the Atrians living among the humans and Castor tells him this means war is coming sooner. Roman says they need a leader with the time for the job and says Castor can have the position. Castor promises to do him and his father proud. Roman says if he doubts his loyalty for a moment, he’ll replace him. He also asks Castor to get the Trags to stop targeting Emery’s family. He says he will.

Drake stares down his kidnapper Eric at school. Emery tries to talk to Roman but he remembers what Beaumont says about keeping to their own kind and looks around to see who could be spying on them. He leaves her there hanging but Grayson is quickly there to pick up the slack. Roman watches her walk away with Grayson and he’s not happy.

Beaumont and Castor plot. They agree they want to keep Emery and Roman apart. Castor tells Beaumont that he answers to him now and he agrees. OMG! Of course Castor was lying to his nephew.

At dusk, Roman watches the blossoms bloom on his father’s shrouded body. He’s composting or something.

At the restaurant, Emery and Grayson hang out and share a hug. They each head home. Vartan watches and then follows Grayson. He pulls up alongside and tells Grayson to get in and he does. He asks what that was about and Grayson says his plan at the carnival was too risky. Turns out Grayson’s a Red Hawk too – he holds his knife in his hand (his brother’s) and we see the Red Hawk logo!! OMG – everyone is a liar!

THE END!!
