Supernatural RECAP 1/28/13: Season 9 Episode 12 “Sharp Teeth”

SUPERNATURAL continues on the CW tonight with a new episode called, “Sharp Teeth.”  On tonight’s episode Sam and Dean do some investigating and are stunned by what they find.  Did you watch the last episode season 9 episode 11?  We did and we recapped it right here for you.

On last week’s show looking to reclaim his place as King of Hell, Crowley asked Dean for help finding “The First Blade,” the only blade that could kill Abbadon. Knowing he owed Crowley a favor for helping Sam, and also wanting Abaddon dead himself, Dean reluctantly agreed and the two set off on a road trip. However, Dean and Crowley were completely unprepared when they found out who has the blade – Cain, the first son. Meanwhile, Sam was back at the bunker with Castiel who noticed there is some leftover grace inside Sam. If they can extract it, they can use the grace to track Gadreel. The only problem was the procedure might do permanent damage to Sam.

On tonight’s show after finding out that Garth (guest star DJ Qualls) is in the hospital, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) go to check on him. Still carrying the guilt over Kevin, Dean lays into Garth about disappearing and demands to know where he’s been. Garth makes an excuse and then hightails it away from the guys. Confused as to why Garth would run from them, Sam and Dean do some investigating and are stunned by what they find.

In Wisconsin, something is eating large livestock. A farmer comes out and blasts at the person disrupting the herd. The man runs off into the woods as the farmer fires some more shots. He runs out onto the road and is struck by a car and knocked out cold. The car squeals to a stop.

At the local hospital, Sam comes in and flashes the FBI badge and asks for the John Doe. She tells him he’s a popular guest. Garth is still unconscious and Sam finds his brother Dean at his bedside. They both saw his John Doe on the police wire. Dean tells him he can take off and Sam asks if he’s spoken and Dean says too many painkillers.

He asks why he’s cuffed and Dean says he killed a cow but doesn’t know why. Dean gets ready to administer some adrenaline to wake him but Sam slaps Garth hard and he comes to. He calls their names and asks why he’s in a hospital then asks if he’s in heaven. They ask what’s up and he asks why he’s in cuffs. They release him.

They ask where he’s been and why he killed a cow. Garth says he was on a hunt and then runs off to hurl. Dean asks if they’ve found Gadriel and Sam tells him he left some grace behind in him but Kas took care of it. Dean says it’s like an episode of Teen Mom. Garth continues to make violent vomiting noises. Sam asks what’s on Dean’s arm and he says it was a gift from Cain. Sam asks if it’s from the wrestler and Dean says no – the Old Testament guy. He says it’s to kill Abadon and Sam’s shocked he worked a job with Crowley but Dean says – the devil you know.

The noises stop and they check the bathroom to find that Garth has taken off out the window. They wonder why he ran from them. Sam asks if he tested him and Dean says no since he was unconscious. They find his hospital gown and wonder where he’s gone naked. Sam goes to talk to the farmer who tells him there have been a number of animals killed and that their organs were yanked out. He thinks it’s devil worship.

Sam calls Dean and fills him in on the evisceration and they wonder if he was hunting whatever killed the animals. Dean says they have no leads and Sam should take off but Sam shows up and snatches the papers from him and busts him on lying. Dean says they can’t hunt together and Sam agrees but says they just need to find Garth and then he’ll go.

They bust into Garth’s girlfriend’s house and he acts panicked. He tells them to chill and put up their guns. Then the girlfriend busts out of the closet growling and baring dog teeth and Garth begs them not to hurt her. They tells him she’s a werewolf and he admits that he is too. They are abso floored!

Garth treats his girlfriend’s wound and she asks why he has hunters in their homes. He introduces Bess to the Winchesters and says Dean is a teddy bear and that Sam is a sweetie. Dean is upset about the whole werewolf thing. He says outside of Portland he hunted down a werewolf who bit him. He says he knew there was no cure so he had a last meal, watched his favorite movie and was about to eat a bullet when Bess found and saved him.

He says they got married four months ago and her pack has taken him in. He explains that her pack doesn’t hurt people but they only eat cattle. She says he’s doing well by controlling his hunger. She calls him a “bitten” and she explains that she was born a werewolf and Dean is stunned. He asks to talk to Garth alone and he sends his wife to put some ointment on her arm. Garth tells him that their pack is clean and Dean says she attacked him and Garth says they attacked first. Dean says he needs more than Garth’s word and he invites them to a werewolf prayer meeting.

Sam is at the sheriff’s and Dean is headed to meet the pack. Sam tells him to be careful. Dean hears the pack singing Bringing in the Sheaves. Dean comes up and Garth’s mother in law comes out and invites him in and promises safe passage as long as he accords them the same respect – she knows he’s packing silver. Dean comes in and finds the pack singing gospel music. Garth plays the piano. The others all look very clean cut and non-threatening. The pastor tells him he’ll see them all later at church.

Garth tells Dean it’s all good and Dean asks if they are all wolves and he says it’s not all good. Garth begins introduces them and the Reverend is also the pack leader Jim. Dean won’t shake hands and Jim says he knows that hunters have a checkered history with his kind. They invite him to break bread with them and they insist. Joyce serves up fresh entrails and promises pie for dessert.

The wolves all dig in with their hands. Dean watches queasily. He asks if they say grace and Jim says they are more spiritual than religious. He says their beliefs are more like Native Americans and Dean says that didn’t work out well for them. Dean asks why werewolves are wearing silver bullets and Garth says they prefer the term lycanthrope. They say the silver reminds them of their fragility.

Jim tells him that right after Bess was born, a hunter killed his wife and he was angry and decided revenge wasn’t worth it. Dean says he gets it. Jim says he chose to look forward and that he then met Joyce who helped raise Bess. Joyce says that her Dad (now gone) also had a hand in it. She’s fourth generation werewolf. Dean is amazed.

The Sheriff tells Sam that Reverend Jim and his family are pillars of the community and asks why the FBI wants to know. He says he just go where the bureau tells him and leaves his card with the officer. Dean looks at all the guts in the fridge and Bess’ brothers confront him about snooping. He asks if they have a chew toy to play with and Garth pulls him aside for a talk. He asks why Dean is being so hard on them. Dean says he just can’t buy it. Garth says he knows it looks nuts but they are a real family.

He understands Dean’s suspicions and says he thought the same when he met them but when the other show never dropped, he finally believed it. Dean chews him out for dropping out of sight with now word and Garth says he couldn’t explain that he was a werewolf but he still missed Dean, Sam and Kevin. Dean tells him that Kevin is gone for good. Garth asks why and Dean says he failed him.

Sam asks Dean why they are still there. Dean says Garth is okay and Sam says sometimes they come across friendly monsters. The Sheriff calls Sam and tells him that more animals were murdered. They go to investigate. They meet the Sheriff out in a remote area and he shows them a deer that was torn apart. The blood is fresh. The Sheriff opens his hand and his claws come out then we see the fangs pop out in his mouth while the Winchesters’ backs are turned.

Dean says the carcass is still warm which means it was killed after they got the call. The Sheriff tells them they don’t know what they walked into but won’t be walking out. Dean throws a knife into his chest and Sam finds the silver bullet on the Sheriff like the Reverend Jim and his crew have it. They notice there are some Norse mythology markings on it. Sam refuses to up and kill Garth so Dean agrees they should lock him up. Sam agrees to clean up the kill and secure Garth while Dean checks out the wolf church.

Dean finds the church dark and flips his flashlight on – he looks around. Sam picks the lock on Garth’s  door and calls for him. Dean finds a Norse book in the church and a family photo of the happy wolf clan. He searches Ragnarok – the word he found when Sam calls. He says Garth’s place is a wreck and the lovebirds are gone. Dean says Ragnarok is about Fenris (a wolf) who kills Odin. He says cults worship Fenris and that they have an action plan for the extinction of humans. Sam asks if small town Wisconsin is ground zero and they agree to take out the good Reverend. But then Sam is knocked out by the brothers. Jim heads into the church and sniffs scenting Dean. He calls out to Dean and says he can hear his heartbeat. He tells him he must be nervous and Dean says fear makes you human. Jim says even monsters have fear. Dean asks about the maw of Fenris and their plans and Jim says that they have no plans.

Jim says since he took over, he eradicated the whole Fenris nonsense. Dean tells him that the Sheriff tried to off them and he’s shocked. Dean asks to see his bullet and he shows it – he asks where Raganrok is and says it was etched into the Sheriff’s bullet. Jim says the maw is dead and then tells him Garth and Bess are missing. Jim is appalled. Garth and Bess are tied up in the barn when her brothers drag Sam in. Joyce comes in and slaps Bess and tells her she’s not her mother. Garth begs her to leave Bess alone. She tells Garth she’s going to hurt him, Bess and Sam. Garth tells Bess he’s sorry.

Dean calls Sam in a panic and then takes off out of the church. Joyce slaps Garth and he begs her not to hurt Bess and she insists she’s not her daughter. She says she’s the last of her bloodline thanks to the hunters. Sam comes to and Joyce tells him he looks good enough to eat. Sam asks why she’s tormenting her pack members and Joyce loads a gun. She explains that her little brother Charlie was killed last year by a hunter. She says Jim preached peace and coexistence with humans.

She says her Daddy was right that their can be no peace while man lives because man destroys. She says she’s sick of it. One of the wolves comes out to investigate noise and Dean knifes him. Sam says he understands she’d rather rule than coexist and she says Jim doesn’t understand because he was bitten, not born. She says she’s pleased that Ragnarok will start with their presence. She plans to start the war by killing Bess with a silver bullet she’ll blame on Sam. She says that Jim won’t turn his cheek. Joyce tells Bess she won’t enjoy killing her but Ragnarok requires it.

Sam kicks the gun out of Joyce’s hands and Dean attacks the other brother then stabs him. Joyce realizes Dean put on Russ’ coat to hide his scent. She says it was clever and Dean says he’s full of surprises. Joyce leaps for the gun, grabs it and raises it but Dean shoots her through the heart!

Sam tells Garth to be good and they hug it out. Garth thanks him. Sam walks out. Dean asks Garth how Jim is doing and he says he’s taking it hard and thinks he should have seen the signs about Joyce and the brothers earlier. Garth says this is another screw up he made but Dean says he’s the one that screwed up with Kevin and Garth said there’s enough blame to go around.

Garth asks if he can hunt with him sometime. He says the werewolf mojo could be an advantage and says he wants to make it right. He says Kevin was his friend and he shouldn’t have abandoned him. Dean tells him to stick with the wolves since it’s making him happy. They hug it out too. Garth is shocked that Dean is hugging him -wolfy self and all.

Dean drops Sam off to his car and they agree to send postcards. Sam gets out and then Dean follows and calls to him. He tells Sam that on the night when they parted (Sam calls it the night Dean split) he was messed up about Kevin dying. Sam says – okay. Dean says he’s still messed up about it and he’s sorry for the way they parted. He says their playbook is all askew now and when they rode together it split the crappiness. Sam agrees. Sam says okay again.

Sam says something is broken between them and Dean says a couple of wins will fix it but Sam isn’t sure. Sam says they see things differently now. Sam says he talked him out of boarding up hell and letting Gadriel into him means he can’t trust Dean the way he should be able to. Dean says they’re family and Sam says that’s not a cure all and all the bad stuff that has happened is because they’re family. Sam agrees to keep working with him but isn’t feeling brotherly towards Dean. Sam gets back in the car and they drive away together.

THE END!
