Chicago Fire Recap - 'We Called Her Jellybean': Season 3 Episode 21

Tonight on NBC Chicago Fire continues with an all new Tuesday, April 28, season 3 episode 21 called, “We Called Her Jellybean” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, Sgt. Benson [Mariska Hargitay] of New York’s Special Victims Unit comes to Chicago to help with the CPD’s investigation when an apartment fire is linked to a case of rape and attempted murder, a scenario that echoes an unsolved SVU case. In other events, the squad doubts one of its own; and Dawson risks her life during a call.

On the last episode, truck and squad were called to the scene of a car crash that has Mills (Charlie Barnett) desperately working to save the life of a driver seriously injured in the wreck. Meanwhile, Casey (Jesse Spencer) had some doubts about Jack Nesbitt (guest star Eric Mabius), whose strip club he was remodeling on the side. Elsewhere, Hermann (David Eigenberg), Otis (Yuri Sardarov), Cruz (Joe Minoso) and Chaplain Orlovsky (guest star Gordon Clapp) help got their team ready for the peewee hockey championship, but Herrmann proved more of an obstacle than the other team. Taylor Kinney, Eamonn Walker, Monica Raymund, Kara Killmer, Christian Stolte also star. Marina Squerciati, Warren Christie, Yaya DaCosta and Izabella Miko also guest star.

On tonight’s episode as per the NBC synopsis, “an apartment fire linked to a case of rape and attempted murder calls for members of the CPD to team with the Special Victims Unit, which had a similar unresolved case that has eluded them for more than 10 years. This prompts Sgt. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) to come in from New York to assist with the investigation in which she is all too familiar. Meanwhile, doubts among the squad towards one of their own causes Severide (Taylor Kinney) to lay down the law and Dawson (Monica Raymund) puts her life on the line during a call. Jason Beghe, Jon Seda, Warren Christie, Eric Mabius guest star.”

Station 51 has seen its own share of ups and downs but something is different on tonight’s all new episode of “Chicago Fire”. And that has something to do with the new paramedic assigned to work alongside Brett.

See, normally the squad would welcome new faces. However no one appears to be in the mood to do that with the girl that’s essentially replacing Mills. Mills, after all, was once part of the squad and in addition to that he was practically the very heart of the station. So there’s glum faces all around and eventually a girl realizes she’s not wanted.

But what does that change? Mills is still gone and his friends refusing to accept that is only hurting the station.

Otis remains to be skeptic about Rice and now he’s even mentioning things he’s seen to Cruz. For instance, during their emergency call that morning, Otis mentioned to his best friend that he didn’t believe Rice was telling the truth when he said there was something wrong with his equipment. So Cruz, being the friend that he is, he went to go check out Otis’s theory.

And as for Brett, she was working with someone that was both professional and skilled. Yet she was giving the other woman a cold shoulder. As if it was her fault that Mills decided to do something else with his life.

Thus, the two women did actually get a chance to bond until their job forced them into leaning on each other.

Meanwhile, Casey is having some second thoughts about going into business with Nesbitt. Apparently, he had a few rumors that made it seem like Nesbitt was once dirty so before he could move forward with their partnership – he needed to talk to Rice. Rice, you see, worked with Nesbitt back in the day. So he has more insight on the firefighter turned businessmen than anyone else Casey might ask.

And what he found out was that Nesbitt was accused of being dirty but that there was no actual evidence against him. In other words it was all hearsay.

So Casey was going to continue being in business with Nesbitt but when he saw something fishy at the strip club – his inner alarm system went off. And even if there’s no evidence – Casey knew he couldn’t trust the other man nor did he want to.

And as for the problem Rice has (that he’s also unaware of), Cruz began to believe Otis when he said Rice ducked out of the emergency call. So he went on to tell Herrmann and Mouch. The older guys, though, knew what that accusation could do to a man’s career and they told Cruz to find proof before he says anything else.

If Rice really did abandon his men inside of a burning building then going half-cocked on this is not going to be doing anyone a favor.

Yet, regardless of what they had been told, Otis and Cruz must have been telling other people as well. Because, later, Severide heard the rumors and accused Otis of spreading them out of spite. And, by making threats, he could have turned an already big problem into something much worse.

Consequently, no one is going to be forgetting that particular fire anytime soon. The same fire that Rice may have ditched is probably going to be main issue in the following days. For it seems like their case of arson is connected to several other cases of rape/murder across the country.

And both Chicago PD and Sgt. Benson from New York SVU will be getting involved.

THE END!
