Cody Wikline New Phenom Gives 'The Voice' Season 8 Best Country Performance Ever (VIDEO)

The Voice Season 8 premiere came sprinting out of the gate, featuring a performance that all the judges are calling one of the ‘best country performances’ they’ve ever seen. In fact, Adam Levine literally called the performance the the best country performance he ever heard anyone perform on this show.

Cody Wikline gave a blind audition, singing ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’, and it took all of two seconds for Adam Levine to push the button. It took Blake Shelton a bit longer to press his button, a tad bit surprising considering his own country roots and Cody’s clear talent for country. But once he pushed his button, Pharrell and Christina Aguilera were quick to follow.
All of the coaches gave a standing ovation after turning around, and it’s honestly a bit surprising to see this much talent – and a possible winner of the entire competition – this early in the season.

Of course, the four-chair turn around also meant that all the coaches then spent some time wooing Cody Wikline, with Adam Levine beginning by saying, “You can win The Voice. Wouldn’t it be glorious for us to do together without Blake Shelton?” Then, Blake mentioned that ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’ might be one of the most important country songs in the past sixty years, adding, “All you need now is someone to introduce you to Nashville.”

Pharrell also added, “He’s totally right in terms of his connection to Nashville, but I went to the CMT Awards twice.” Christina Aguilera finished it off with, “It just became so undeniable…I know true talent when I hear it.”

Of course, at the end of the day, Cody decided to go with Blake Shelton – an understandable choice, given the country roots. The other coaches were clearly disappointed, and Christina even took to Twitter to voice her disappointment. But alas, Cody Wikline has come out as a contender to win The Voice right out of the gate – good luck to anyone else who has to go up against him.
