#DanceMoms starts in LA at the studio. The girls head inside and the moms talk about how this LA trip is off to a good start. Kira shows them a tweet that says Murrietta Dance Project is facing them at the next competition and says they’re going to kick their butts. The other girls ask Kendall about her new music video and she’s excited about the opportunity. Nia says she thinks Kendall wants to compete with her music video but doesn’t want it to be that way.

Abby calls the girls and moms in and applauds them for winning. The pyramid has Nia in last for only getting 3rd place. She says that’s not high enough and says it all comes down to her leg movement and holds. Next is Mackenzie. Abby says she’s been getting called out in the group routines for issues. She tells her she needs to fix things. JoJo is next and Abby says it was a good week because she didn’t hear her mouth.

Maddie is next in third place. Abby says Maddie is good in group routines because of musicality but there are some technique issues. She says the dancing that she’s doing now with Sia and others doesn’t require proper technique so she’s not as sharp. Kalani is next and Abby says she was a stand out in the group routine. Kira speaks up and says she got invited to an event but Kalani is staying. Kendall is at the top of the pyramid and Abby says she was the big winner.

Abby says Kendall must be the utmost professional at her video. She says she’ll use the other girls at the video to help out and then Holly speaks up and says Nia has a video and has to prepare. Then she starts to ask for some of the girls to help but Abby cuts her off. Abby announces the dance competition and they tell her that MDP will be there. Abby says Kalani will have a solo called Innocent that’s contemporary and says Maddie will do a lyrical solo.

For the group, they are doing a contemporary dark number called Rose Garden. She says Maddie will miss rehearsal tomorrow because she’s performing on Ellen. Abby sends the moms out so they can start rehearsal. It’s three days prior to competition and Abby works with the group. Abby says it must be precise and sharp. Abby says she needs to attract a higher caliber of students when she opens in LA and needs wins to do that.

The moms talk about the group number and Holly says she thinks the group number is all about beating MDP. We see a flashback to MDP bringing Abby a fruit basket last time and her throwing it out and ignoring them. Jill says it’s an exciting time for Kendall and Nia. Holly says she thinks Nia is a little less confident because Abby isn’t supporting her. She says she seems to be on a mission to make Kendall’s video better than Nia’s.

The girls come in taking a break and Abby pulls Kendall out. Holly changes. Abby tells her they’re shooting in an airplane hangar and says she has to be on her A game. She says to ignore Holly and Nia and their back stabbing. She says Kendall has to make this amazing. So Holly was right! Abby is gunning for her since she went behind her back. Abby then coaches the girls on their solos. Maddie is up first and Melissa say she’s surprised Abby gave her a solo since she’s got Ellen this week.

Melissa says this will be Maddie’s toughest competition. Jill says Abby never sets Maddie up to fail – only sets her up to look better. Over at Murietta Dance Project, their coach Erin Babbs tells her girls they have to make sure Abby loses and knows that LA is too tough for her. Next day, Jill says she and Kendall, Maddie and Mackenzie met with Todrick and Holly says she doesn’t know why Nia wasn’t invited. She says Nia saw the Instagram post and felt excluded then cried herself to sleep.

Holly says that’s not okay and says Jill should have not excluded her. Jill says she didn’t exclude her and Holly says she needs to take ownership. Jill says she was just told to meet Abby with Kendall. Melissa isn’t there to back her up since she’s at the Ellen Show with Maddie. Jessa says Jill is just enjoying Abby’s attention for Kendall. Holly rants about Nia crying herself to sleep then calls Jill a coward. She says she’s no better than Abby.

Jill says she never wants to hold herself accountable. Jill slams out and Kira goes to check on her. Holly tells Jessa this is about Abby and her twisted mind using Todrick to get to her. Jill tells Kendall that she’s getting yelled at for taking her to see Todrick. Then Jill tells Kendall it’s not for her to worry about. Holly rants and says Jill is insane. Abby works with Kalani on her solo and wants more from her expression. Abby yells at her about her sloppy feet.

Abby says even though she and Maddie are in different age divisions, there’s still one overall solo winner. Melissa asks the other moms how it went when she was out. Holly says Nia was upset about missing out in the Todrick experience. Melissa says if she had control of it, she would have invited Nia. Jill says she didn’t do anything wrong and Holly says there’s no justification to excluding a child. Jill says it’s unfortunate both videos are going on at the same time.

Holly says Abby never mentions it and hasn’t focused on it. Jill says she just has to jump on the band wagon now while Abby is finally invested in Kendall. She says she’s been waiting on this for years. Holly says she doesn’t want to compete with Kendall and says Abby is orchestrating this drama. Jessa says they need to stick together as a united front. Holly says they should be excited about the opportunities and not distract the girls with their nonsense.

Holly says they need to put on their game faces for MDP so they don’t see any rifts. They all agree. Over at MDOP, Erin says she chose Kira for a solo and calls Abby the Wicked Witch of the East. Erin says she feels sorry for anyone that gets in Kira’s way. Back over at ALDC, the girls have on two inch long fake nails on as part of their rehearsal costume. The moms watch them dance. Abby takes a phone call and tells them to stop. It’s Erica Taylor who says she got the building she wanted.

Abby finally has her LA studio space and says now the girls have got to win to establish her West Coast reputation. ALDC arrives at the competition and find that MDP was in their room and left messages on the makeup mirrors. The moms agree that it was tacky. Jessa gets a tweet that says that the MDP dancers are talking trash about them on social media. Jill says they should go talk to them. Erin is warming up her girls when the moms show up.

Jill says they want to know why they wrote on their mirror and what’s up with social media. Erin says you can post fun stuff when your girls have good self-esteem. Jill says they are raising fine young ladies. Erin says if they encouraged their girls to kick butt, maybe they would. Jill says it’s on and says they need to watch themselves. The moms tells Abby and she tells Jill that she should lay off social media if she can’t take the heat. Abby doesn’t want to hear it.

Melissa tells Maddie she loves her solos and says they get better week after week. Kira tells Kalani that she got a good solo and can beat Maddie. She says Kalani didn’t beat Maddie last time and is nervous but Kira says she’s just as good as Maddie. Abby gives them some encouragement before their solo performances. Abby says Maddie is practically the face of ALDC and if she makes mistakes, everyone will talk about it. She says she doesn’t need that when she’s opening a new studio.

Maddie is up first. Her lyrical number is very pretty and it looks like she’s doing it well. She finishes to cheers and wild applause. Melissa says Maddie just killed it but you never know with MDP there. Next is Kira’s solo. That kid is little but all muscle. Hers is lyrical but also very athletic. She also gets lots of applause. Kalani’s mom Kira says that was really impressive. Kalani’s solo is next and she hopes that seeing that didn’t hurt her confidence.

Kalani comes out and does her number and hers is incredible. She could not kick any higher. Her leg was all the way up in her arm pit. Her expressions were nice too. Abby says Kalani rocked it and she doesn’t know who between her and Maddie will come out on top but says one of them better because she doesn’t want to lose to the other studio. Abby does some last minute work with the group. She tells Kendall something and she sasses her and Abby tells her she better not talk back at the video shoot.

Abby says if the girls don’t give it everything they’ve got, they could be in trouble. They come out for their number. It’s really cool choreography. The crowd seems to love it. Abby is very pleased and says they nailed it. The MDP group number is up next. Theirs is really interesting too. The crowd cheers wildly too. Jill says they were amazing and she thinks they’re in trouble.

It’s awards time. MDP’s soloist took 5th place. Jill is thrilled. Kalani takes 2nd place overall and Maddie takes 1st overall. Abby is thrilled and says she knew her girls wouldn’t let her down. She says she wants the group to win so she can feel truly vindicated. MDP takes 3rd place in overall groups. ALDC takes 1st. Abby is triumphant. Jill says it was a clean sweep. Erin comes over while Abby is talking to the judges then says she didn’t agree with what they decided.

She also says Abby is schmoozing the judges and she wouldn’t expect them to talk to the judges after like they’re friends. One of Erin’s moms says they have been doing the same routines over and over with different costumes. Jill says they win because of Abby and the MDP mom says they win in spite of Abby. Abby laughs and says – either way. Abby says it was an artistic and a business success. She says it was fun.
