People's Choice Awards 2015 Winners - Maleficent, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Downey Jr., and Shailene Woodley Win Big

We’re in the full swing of awards season hoopla, but the People’s Choice Awards 2015 winners always provides a brief respite from all the relentless Oscar campaigning. However, if there’s one thing that the People’s Choice Awards are lacking, it’s prestige – as in, does anyone actually take this seriously?

In what other universe would Best Picture – or in People’s Language, ‘Favorite’ Movie – go to Maleficent? Favorite Movie Actor of course went to Robert Downey Jr. and Favorite Movie Actress went to Jennifer Lawrence, and favorite movie duo went to Shailene Woodley and Theo James for Divergent. And I guarantee, the only reason Shailene and Theo won that award is because Mockingjay Part 1 didn’t release early enough to be considered, which would have led to Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson winning yet another award.

Favorite Action Movie went to Divergent, again probably because Mockingjay wasn’t allowed. Favorite Action Movie star – you guessed it, it was Jennifer Lawrence. Favorite Comedic Movie went to 22 Jump Street, probably because there was a severely lacking list of strong comedies this year.

Overall, everything was predictable and everything was probably pre-determined. Robert Downey Jr. knew he was he going to win Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Dramatic Movie Actor, and he showed up to collect his prize. Jennifer Lawrence was a no-show at the awards, but she’s also failed to make appearances at several major award shows now – and the People’s Choice Awards is not really a ‘major’ awards show. She might have shown up to shill a movie, but there’s nothing that she’s promoting right now and she doesn’t have any awards buzz going either.

What do you guys think about this year’s winners? Do any of you even care about the People’s Choice Awards and did you tune in to watch? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
