RECAP:

#WaywardPines begins with a car wreck and a carousel coming to life and light. The street is burning and disaster is everywhere. A woman calls out for someone to wait. We see a man walking alone down the street – it’s Pilcher. He looks around at the devastation hopelessly. Now, the town is lovely. A llittle girl rides her bike then stops to look at the helicopter overhead. It’s Ethan, Pilcher and Pam. They land and head back inside the walls.

Pilcher keys them into the security system and tell Ethan that Wayward Pines doesn’t run itself. He explains how everything is stored there except food. He says eventually it will be self-sufficient and says they’re working towards that goal. We see some women playing operator and telling people they can’t reach their spouse. Ethan asks who those people are and Pilcher says they’re volunteers who work in the complex and left their lives to help him realize this vision.

He tells Ethan he’s the beating heart of Wayward Pines. Christina tells Pilcher he’s needed in CRU and Pam tells Ethan to come let her look at his arm. Theresa asks Ben what’s going on and she says she can tell something is wrong. She asks if it’s about the girl but he asks if she remembers his poster of Earth over his desk. He says he’s thinking about how many people there are on Earth and says it’s always made him feel small. She says that’s normal and they all feel that way.

He says what if it does matter and what they do means something. He says it’s a lot scarier. She asks when he was thinking about his and he says in science class. Theresa says it will be all right and goes to fix him some food. Ted comes to see Kate at her shop and says he has some things for her. She signs the form to accept them and he stares at her strangely then asks about the package she needed picked up in the back. She says yes she forgot then asks him to come with her to the back.

He follows. Harold notices the shadows and she says Ted came to pick up the package. He lets them in and then Kate asks what he’s doing and says they can’t meet there. Ted says they need to talk and says he can’t find McCall’s package. He says without it, they can’t finish what they started. He says he searched the house and it’s not there. She says to check the office but he says Bill is always around and there are bugs everywhere plus Theresa is working there now.

Henrietta tells Bill she’s quitting since he gave Theresa the agent job. She leaves and Theresa goes after her and says she told Bill she didn’t want the job. She says she had no choice and Henrietta knows this. She says she met with a new client earlier who says he saw things. Henrietta says they killed Peter and it wasn’t about graffiti but because he was looking at Plot 33 and thought it was a way out. Theresa asks what that is and Henrietta says she’ll end up dead too.

Pam treats Ethan’s arm and says she knows he’s angry with her but says there’s a purpose to everything. He says it’s all one big misunderstanding and Pam says yes, but she knows it’s hard for him to understand. She stitches up his arm and then says ever since he came, he’s been trying to save himself, his wife and his beautiful son. She says it’s commendable but the place is bigger than all of them. She says Pilcher needs him to take responsibility for the whole place.

Pam is called to the CRU and Ethan hears her last name is Pilcher. He asks if she’s his wife but she says sister. She says her brother will be back in a moment and says he may see things in a new light by the end of the day. She leaves him in the examination room. Ethan hears an animal sound and goes to investigate. He heads down the hall as he hears an abby screech. He pulls his gun and moves on down the hall. He sees a window and an abby leaps at him from behind the glass.

Pilcher is there and say she doesn’t like him. He tells the soldiers to stand down. The abby bares its teeth and growls at Ethan then gas hits it and it backs away. Ethan asks who they are and Pilcher says distant cousins. He says in the late 1990s, humans began to understand their environmental impact. Pilcher says his company discovered mutated DNA and says humans were beginning to change and adapt. He says he tried to warn the global community but they didn’t listen.

We see Pilcher back in the past after a lecture. He talks to Pam and says he’ll be a punch line by Monday. Pam says they have plenty of time but he says the concept of time is an issue. He says it’s just delay delay delay. She says he’ll know when the answer shows up and he says he can’t do it anymore. He says even if the world believed him, it would be too late. He says he can’t do it on his own. Pam says he’s not alone and he says she’s right.

He says his sister the recovering drug addict is with him and together they will save mankind. She says they might and says for now let’s get dinner. Now, Pilcher tells Ethan she was right and it did take time and he couldn’t protect the entire world, but a select few. He says he redirected profits from his companies into cryonics. He says he had to try and avoid their future. He says he has to save some of them. Theresa looks through a desk then looks through a book.

Bill asks what she’s looking at and she says a surveyor map. He says he told her to look at properties for the new lawyer. He slams the book shut and she asks what he knows about Plot 33 and says it’s at Boxwood and 3rd but no one is developing it. Bill says that’s interesting and says when he will tell her if he wants her to look at surveyor maps. He says to forget it and takes the book away. Theresa says fine. Kate shows up then then asks if she can talk to Theresa.

Pilcher tells Ethan that testing cryonic suspension was dangerous and illegal. He says he had to hide the money in trusts and charities. Ethan says he and Kate and Evans noticed but Pilcher says it wasn’t the money that caught his eyes but the disappearances. Pilcher takes Ethan downstairs and they see a woman on a gurney. They just pulled her out of cryo. Christina says Sarah Barlow is a teacher from Missouri. Ethan asks how many more there are of them.

Kate tells Theresa they can’t hide from each other but Theresa says she won’t be there forever. Ted shows up with a delivery for Theresa and Bill says he can put it on her desk. He asks what’s going on with Ted and Kate and says he sees them talking all the time. Ted says it’s just deliveries. Bill makes a jerky comment with his back turned. Ted swaps the package on the desk for the one he had then tells Bill the package is for the other Theresa in town and says it’s been a long day. He leaves.

Kate sees Ted go back to his truck across the street. Theresa sees what she’s looking at then ask if she waiting on a package. Theresa asks about Kate mentioning a new house and Kate says she came to her because she wants to change things. Ted goes back to Harold’s and says he has a delivery and hands the box over. Kate says she’s there because of choices she made, some by her, some by others. She says looking back, she could have made better choices.

Kate says but she’s there now and all she can do is make new choices. Harold opens the package. Kate says she doesn’t want to pretend things are okay and wants to make things better so she came to talk to her. She says she hopes she’s not too late. It looks like Harold is making a bomb. Kate says they need to be friends now more than ever. Ethan walks throw the monitoring center where all the cameras are observed. Pilcher waits there.

He looks down and says they’re all asleep. Pilcher says yes. They go downstairs one level and Ethan looks around. There are thousands of people in cryo there.
