Chicago P.D. Season 4 Ep. 3 “All Cylinders Firing” Recap

Chicago PD starts off tonight with Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) having dinner with her father in a fancy restaurant. Platt leaves the restaurant so she can be back in time for her husband, Chicago Fire’s Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte) when he is done his shift. As Platt unlocks her car door, she is struck in the back and repeatedly beaten. The assailant escapes with her handgun, and neighbors realize she is lying on the ground, they call 911 and she manages to tell them that the guy has her gun and she is a cop.

Chicago PD’s Sgt, Platt is rushed into Chicago Med, where they announce “PD’s in the house”. Dr. Rhodes takes her and we learn she is unresponsive. The don’t wait and take her right up to trauma. The Intelligence Unit is all over it. Dt. Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Lindsay (Sofia Bush) meet Sgt. Voight (Jason Beghe) in the emergency department, and inform him she is in surgery but Dt. Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) has set up a grid already and there was a witness.

Chicago Fire’s Mouch arrives and he wants to know the truth and who did this to her. He can’t recall where she said she was going. They question him if it’s possible that she was with another guy. Mouch loses it and tells them if they want to run with that theory, go for it, then he says for them to have some compassion. Voight tells him he goes back 20 years with Platt, and he is feeling exactly what he is feeling.

When Chicago PD’s Voight and Lindsay ask if Platt had any beefs, Mouch informs them that last week, a nutjob shouted out some stuff towards her at her desk, but he doesn’t know his name; but he threatened her. Meanwhile, Chicago PD’s Dt. Dawson, has rallied all the officers he can and they are going to make sure every resident in that area is accounted for. Dt. Dawson and Olinsky meet with the witness. He tells them he knows the car, since he collects cars, he said it was a V8, but he didn’t see the guy.

Back at Chicago PD’s District 21, the building is buzzing with officers who are told to start canvassing with Dt. Dawson; except for Burgess (Marina Squerciati), who is told to catch all the service calls in the South end of the district. Burgess catches Dt. Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Dt. Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), and they tell her they don’t know much, but Sgt. Voight believes that Platt was targeted.

Chicago PD’s Kim Burgess disobeys the temporary sergeant’s orders, and follows Ruzek and Atwater upstairs when they said they could use her help. Voight brings out boxes of complaints, and the top two boxes are lawsuits she has racked up. He wants to know who it was, and that they believe it was a walk-in who threatened her last week. Burgess informs them there were new cameras recently installed downstairs. Voight will check into it and asks Atwater, Burgess and Ruzek to go through every page of Platt’s complaints and lawsuits.

The three come to see one suspect Malik, who came into the district yelling and threatening, but when they get there he explains he wasn’t threatening Platt, that in fact, every night after her shift she escorts his nephew with the nightly money drops. Malik informs them that when Platt was there tonight, she was complaining about seeing her “old man”, and he assumed he was some sort of hardass.

Chicago PD’s Dt. Alvin Olinsky might have caught a break when he realizes that the area is being watched. Ruzek just calls Olinsky, they meet at Platt’s father’s house. When they break down the door, they find Platt’s father on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Olinsky is visibly furious. Voight arrives on scene, just as angry as Olinsky. There was no break-in, so they are assuming whoever is doing this, beat up Platt’s father, to get information on her whereabouts.

Chicago PD’s Olinsky pulls Voight over to talk. He tells him that they both know her father was into some shady deals and maybe she got caught in the middle of it, and possibly wasn’t even the real target. Voight says they can’t think like that, he wants to know the connection and wants to know who wanted them both to suffer. If they find out why, they will know who.

Voight is changing the way they were looking at things. He now wants to know if there is anyone that had issues with her father, that also had a beef with her. Voight orders the detectives to go through everything. Chicago Med’s Dr. Rhodes meets with Dt. Halstead and Lindsay and tells them Platt is going to be fine. He says she is, “up and alert, she’s kind of rude and all cylinders firing!”

Chicago PD’s Platt tells them she doesn’t know who did this to her and Dt. Halstead tells her they found her father inside his apartment and he was unresponsive. Platt tells them to stop treating her like a victim, and Lindsay tells her tonight she is a victim. Platt asks if it looked like a robbery. Lindsay tells her to rest up and they are very sorry. Commander Crowley stays with Platt after Halstead and Lindsay leave.

Lindsay and Halstead return to the District and go to the filing room, because Platt changed her facial expression when they revealed it didn’t look like a robbery. Virginia in filing, refuses to help, because they know that Platt did a civilian search illegally, but they don’t care about it being illegal, they are more interested in catching who did it.

Chicago PD’s Virginia reveals Platt did a search on a girl who was dating her father named Natalie Kern. Virginia reassures them, they are not looking for her; they are looking for her ex-con boyfriend, Leonard Milwood. They found out she was looking into them.

Chicago PD find out Platt’s father’s credit card was just used at a business where they bought a flat screen TV and white wine 2 minutes ago. Burgess arrests her and Olinsky realizes she sent her boyfriend a text and tells him “Police”.

Atwater and Ruzek chase after the boyfriend who had just stolen a minivan, as they try to get him to stop the van, he attempts to run them over, but ends up hitting another vehicle and flipping over. Chicago PD’s Halstead has Natalie Kern in an interrogation room and he tells her they had executed a search warrant for her apartment and have found several gold watches, most of which had Trudy Platt’s father, Robert Platt’s initials on them. She says they were a gift for her birthday last month, Halstead said “7 nice watches?” Natalie tells them, they were in love.

Voight stops her and says, “How about you hit that line, and give it this time with some feeling. Then I will fill in the blanks, you’re a con-artist, so is your boyfriend; only he has a habit of getting caught, and you targeted Robert Platt a rich older man, and you killed him. You tried to kill his daughter a Chicago PD officer because she didn’t trust you; only you sent your boyfriend to do it, and he’s so stupid, he botched the job and she lived!”

Halstead and Voight tell Natalie that what she did is a motive for murder, when she is no longer cooperative, Voight tells him to take her and the boyfriend in and have them processed for the homicide and the attempted murder of a Chicago PD police officer. Behind the glass, Olinsky and Ruzek have Leonard, where Olinsky tells Leonard that this is where she gives him up. Natalie and Leonard both rat each other out, but she let it slip that everything he had including his secret corporations was transferred 6 months earlier to his daughter, Trudy Platt.

When the team is confused on the motive, Olinsky asks, “Who wants to scare some guys?” Kevin Atwater agrees to go with him, they take Natalie with them to get into this private club. Olinsky asks for the video of when Trudy was attacked. The owner wants warrant, Olinsky threatens her to make things bad for her, she gives him the video.

Chicago PD’s Halstead and Lindsay tell Voight they found a 1968 Ford fastback Mustang with no plates circling the block where Platt was attacked. Voight tells them to roll with it but keep it off the “zone”. Meanwhile, Kim Burgess is at the hospital with Platt. Burgess gives an update on her case, asks Platt about the car but she swears she has no idea. The look on Platt’s face says she knows who it is. Wade McGregor, who also worked for Platt’s father.

Back at the District Chicago PD’s Intelligence Unit is exchanging information, when Halstead says that Trudy Platt knew how to cover her tracks, which doesn’t go over well with Sgt. Voight; who asks him what that is supposed to mean? Voight tells Lindsay and Halstead to bring the file to Platt to see what she knows and he grabs Dawson to talk to the arresting officer of this Wade character, where they learn that the only reason they had a chance to nail McGregor years earlier is by a tip they received by a “Jane Doe”, but they know it was Trudy Platt.

Detective Lindsay arrives at the hospital with the file to find both Platt and her hospital detail officer gone. Lindsay calls Voight and tells him she’s gone. Trudy arrives in her dad’s office and gets a gun, after she grabs Wade Mcgregor’s name off her rolodex. She also smashes a memorial window and takes the golden shovel out of it.

Chicago PD are frustrated because they have no idea why or where Trudy Platt went, until they learn that Officer Burgess told her about the muscle car. Everyone is upset that Platt now knows who they are after. Voight says we bring her in quietly, and they need to find both before someone gets killed. Lindsay follows Burgess and tells her to stay angry and help them find Platt.

Wade McGregor is packed up and ready to go, when he turns around to see Trudy standing with her gun drawn. She picks up her other gun and says “Thanks”. She throws handcuffs at him, Burgess finds a clue and puts a BOLO (Be on the lookout) on the vehicle Platt took. Voight is at first upset, but tells her to search the whole building and it has to be just them. He tells her to find him!

Platt brings McGregor to a vacant building, where she says she knows about him cutting corners on dad’s buildings, and he was selling cocaine and laundered proceeds to his job sites. He says her dad robbed him blind. Platt retorts that she warned him then to stay away, and if he wanted money then he should have called a lawyer. McGregor says he isn’t the one who needs a lawyer. Platt responds, “You don’t threaten the one who has you tied to a chair Moron!”

Platt wants to know what her father’s last words were, McGregor says he doesn’t remember. She puts a rag in his mouth and duct tapes it shut. The next thing we see is Platt cleaning up in the bathroom, with her gun in her hand. She comes out to Voight telling her they need to talk. McGregor attempts to say something and Voight puts a finger to his mouth and says SHHH! Voight says he needs to know the truth, so he can help her. She yells that he of all people should understand why she is doing this. Voight yells back that she isn’t him. She breaks down in his arms and cries out that he killed her dad.

Back at Chicago PD’s District 21, Lindsay goes to see Burgess, and tells her that Voight got him. Burgess feels like she just got played and Lindsay tells her there is a cure for that: Half off Wednesdays, and to come because she is buying!” Meanwhile, Platt is back in the hospital resting and her husband, Mouch is there. He wants to know how they found him, McGregor. Platt tells him some old muscle car he had, and as soon as he was released from prison he went back for his old ride. The tactical team found him, and Mouch is upset that she went on her own on the streets, she cries that she used to do the streets. Mouch said she is someone’s wife now, and that was way back when. He says he wishes he had met her when they were younger. It ends with them exchanging “I love yous!”
