'The Night Manager' Showrunner David Farr Adamant He Won't Pen Sequel Series - Stars Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie Confirm News!

British-American television serial, ‘The Night Manager,’ is based on John le Carré’s 1993 espionage thriller of the same name. The six-week miniseries is slated to premiere Tuesday, April 19 on AMC.

According to reports on OregonLive, ‘The Night Manager’ has already aired in the U.K., and is garnering top ratings and reviews. And it’s not a surprise at all, especially because the series is a perfect blend of luxurious production and strong writing. It is further brought to life by an outstanding cast spearheaded by Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston.

Clearly, ‘The Night Manager’ encompasses everything a spy story should. The miniseries revolves around former British soldier Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) who is recruited by an intelligence operative, Angela Burr (Olivia Colman). It all starts when Jonathan Pine meets a beautiful woman, Sophie, who is hiding secrets and inside information pertaining a British businessman who deals in arms.

Pine eventually gets attracted to Sophie, sleeps with her, and makes a huge mistakes of sharing her secrets with a friend who has connections with British intelligence. He obviously lives to regret all of it later.

Fast forward to present day, Pine now works at another swank hotel in Switzerland where Richard Roper (Laurie) turns up as a guest. This meeting eventually leads Pine on a course that, under the supervision of London-based intelligence operative Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), sends him undercover into Richard Roper’s organization.

Fans looking forward to the second series need to wait to find out if Roper is actually the same arms dealer Sophie tagged as “the worst man in the world.” That said, not everyone seem to be excited about the popular BBC series’ continuation.

According to reports on Independent, writer David Farr crushed all hopes of a second series. While talking to Variety, Farr stated, “There is lots of pressure but I’m not keen,” when asked if he faces expectations to write a follow-up.

Farr said, “Personally, I liked the fact that the story ended where the story ended.” He continued, “But that’s entirely personal. Given the characters, there is a potential for something more to happen, and I’m sure someone could find the right idea. But for me, it’s done,” Farr added.

Though he confirmed he’d love to work with Le Carré and the two are in fact considering to team up again for future projects, Farr simply feels that he wouldn’t be able to make the next one as good.

The show’s leads, Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie, also quashed the possibility of a second series while promoting the series in the United States.

Do you think fans who were looking forward to a continuation should finally let go of all hope, as David Farr is seems pretty adamant he won’t pen a follow-up? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
