The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that we’re inching closer to Steve Burton’s (Dylan) last airdate. It looks like Y&R may be offering us a few hints of what’s to come. Christine (Laralee Bell) is worried about the new case that Paul (Doug Davidson) put Dylan on. She knows that it’s incredibly dangerous.
Red flags are going up here. Since we know Burton is on his way out, we’re left with several options. It’s possible that the role has been recast, but that may not be too likely. Sally Sussman, the head writer of The Young and the Restless, seems more interested in focusing on the Abbotts and Newmans.
With that in mind, we have to think about the alternatives. There’s a chance that Dylan could be killed off. However, that doesn’t quite line up with the vibe Sussman is going for. It appears she’s concentrating on character-driven plots rather than flashy stunts. It doesn’t feel like Sussman is concerned with shock value.
That doesn’t mean that we can rule out a death, but it does mean there are other options to consider. Here’s another one to ponder. Let’s say Paul sticks to his guns and Dylan continues this risky case. He could be critically injured on the job. Dylan might be sent to a long-term facility for treatment.
If Dylan is in a deep coma, Sharon could eventually let go and move on. The Young and the Restless may choose a different route though. Dylan could get involved in some sort of incident that triggers his PTSD. He might believe he poses a serious threat to his family.
Dylan could decide to leave Sharon and Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) behind for their own safety. Of course, injuries could still be a factor. It could be a combination of mental and physical suffering. Regardless, it would take Dylan out of the picture.
After Steve Burton’s going-away party at the CBS soap, people started bidding him farewell on Twitter. Burton was quick to point out that this wasn’t necessarily goodbye. He suggested that Young and the Restless fans should “never say never.” Y&R may have left the door open for return stints.
Maybe Paul will still have an opportunity to see Dylan from time to time. He’ll undoubtedly go through plenty of heartache if Dylan gets hurt. Paul will feel responsible for putting Dylan in harm’s way. How do you think Dylan will be written out? We’ll give you updates as other news comes in.
