Better Call Saul begins with Gene leaving work at Cinnabon, sitting at a mall bench when a young guy (Dylan Riley Snyder) tumbles dropping the items he shoplifted. The security guards ask him if he saw the young guy and he points to the photo booth. He is placed under arrest and Gene feels bad, he shouts to the kid to not say anything and get a lawyer. Gene returns to work, but collapses soon after.

Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) has a meeting then calls Howard, telling him to not look a gifthorse in the mouth, saying whatever happened he is over it now. He throws the phone into the mailbox. He returns to the house and helps Chuck McGill (Michael McKean) remove all the foil and mess from the house.

Jimmy finds a book called The Adventures of Mabel, learning it was their granny’s book from 1912. Jimmy says his mother used to read it to him, but Chuck corrects him saying he was the one who read it to him, getting nostalgic about their childhood. As Jimmy continues with memories, Chuck says he will never forget what happened there today and Jimmy will pay.

Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) is in a meeting with clients when Jimmy barges in; she says she is almost done and will be with him in a minute. When the clients leave, Jimmy tells Kim she is a super hero and he owes her big time. He says crisis has been averted with his brother, Chuck; he doesn’t want to talk about it because it involves something she never wanted to discuss.

Jimmy attempts to smooth things over, offering to do the “will” work she has. She says they are partners and once she takes clients on she can’t just reassign them to him. He appears to be mad, but says he is thinking about things. He tells her for 10 minutes today, his brother didn’t hate him and he forgot what that felt like.

Chuck brings the recording he made of Jimmy confessing to a felony to Howard. Chuck asks him to hide the recorder again, asking Howard if he believes him. Howard says he does, but Jimmy is an SOB. Howard tells Chuck that this recording has a problematic chain of evidence is going to be difficult to have admitted. Howard says it will be useless in court, so what was the point of it? Chuck smiles and says he has a good reason for it.

Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) is in the middle of nowhere, when the horn of his car is set off by someone who placed a stick on the horn. He pulls out his gun as he finds a note that says, “DON’T”. After checking his surroundings, he jumps in his car, speeding away, looking back to see if he was followed. He stops at the crossroads to inspect his car, he finds nothing.

He arrives at Five J’s Auto Parts and hoists his car up giving it a thorough inspection. Once he can’t find anything on the outside, he leaves the car on barrels and tears it apart inside, taking it completely apart. The owner says they are closing, he asks him to call a cab and they can keep the vehicle, or what’s left of it.

While waiting for the cab he believes the tracker or device could be in the gas cap; he heads back to the yard with a screwdriver and pops open the gas cap, and sighs. He returns home and brings in the gas cap from another one of his vehicles and finds another tracker. He writes down the information on it and puts it back in the gas cap and back on the car.

Jimmy is at the office, trying to catch up with clients when the military captain who is his next client is furious with him; accusing him of entering government property under false pretenses. He apologizes for the misunderstanding but Jimmy insists no damage was done.

Captain Bauer admits he didn’t like the commercial, but Jimmy says people find it uplifting and surely his recruiting numbers are up. Bauer says he won’t let Jimmy get away with lying to his face; Jimmy feels they will just agree to disagree, offering him a coffee to go.

Bauer orders him to take the ad off the air and if he doesn’t he is going to take him to the judge advocate and have him charged with trespassing, false representation, and stolen valor. Jimmy tells him to make him do it, saying he is a lawyer and this is what he does. Bauer says with guys like him, the wheel is going to turn… it always does. As he leaves he tells the waiting clients that Jimmy isn’t a lawyer they can trust.

Mike is leaving his work at the parking lot when he removes the gas cap from his car, leaving it on a wall in the parking garage. He parks outside a factory, checking his watch repeatedly, leaning on the hood of his car. His contact arrives and he hands him the paper with the information from the tracker. He gives him a grand for his services, before he leaves he asks about his puppy also suggesting to make it during business hours and that it will take him a few days.

Kim meets with her client, Paige who is excited that their hearing has been moved up 3 weeks. She is very happy saying Kim was the right one for this case. She says Kevin will be popping champagne, because the guy was horrible to her belittling her and blaming her for muddying the waters.

They are supposed to meet for lunch the following day but now Kim asks for the papers back promising to have them back to Paige soon. She is working on the wording when Jimmy is rushing her to finish. She comes out and there is half a rainbow on the wall, he promises her the next thing painted will be something she loves.

They are about to leave for dinner when she returns to the computer and begins changing the wording again. Jimmy opens the can of paint and returns to painting.

Ernesto (Brandon K. Hampton) arrives with a delivery for Chuck, he opens the batteries for him and he takes them with tongs to place in his hidden recorder; when he can’t change the batteries he asks Ernesto to do it for him. He accidentally turns it on and Chuck yells that he didn’t hear that. He explains the laws of client confidentiality, ordering Ernesto to say nothing to anybody.

Mike is at home studying the manual for the tracking device. He retrieves the gas cap from his car, replacing it with his own tracker and attaches the one that was in his car to a radio.

He grabs a beer and heads into the living room, leaving it recording for hours. He later throws it in the garbage, sits in his dark room, watching his car from behind closed curtains. At dawn, he observes a man swapping out the gas cap for another one; he picks up his device to find out who is after him. He gets ready, removes the gas cap and drives off.

THE END!
