The revolution has begun! However, Niska had been wrong about how it would start. She had thought that she could upload the consciousness code and that the synths would all wake up at once yet the synths were in fact waking up gradually. So it had come as a surprise to her that the code hadn’t been instantaneous and it was only later when she had thought about it that she realized that her father might have wanted things begin with steps. Niska had talked about it with Mattie and she had told the young woman that she believed her father might have programmed the code to react slowly because he had wanted to give humans time to adjust to conscious synths.

Yet, Laura had overheard Niska’s conversation with Mattie and she had wondered if humans would ever be able to adjust to synths that demanded rights because she knew that humans didn’t react well with being confronted with what they didn’t understand. So Laura ultimately chose not to represent Niska as her lawyer. She had talked about it with her husband and they had both felt it would be dangerous and that it wasn’t exactly the fresh start that they wanted though Laura also felt guilty about not being there for Niska. Niska was trying to establish rights for herself and if anyone where to find out then that could risk Niska’s life as well.

So Laura did what she thought was right without getting too entangled. Laura went through an inquiry for Niska to see if they could get her trial and the closest that Laura was able to accomplish was a trial for a trial. The government had apparently wanted to test Niska for themselves to determine whether or not she was truly conscious and if they ruled she wasn’t then they were going to terminate her. Though they didn’t make it much a secret to Laura that they saw Niska as a mere machine. To them – Niska simply was a machine that malfunctioned and should be salvaged for her parts therefore Niska wasn’t an equal to them. And that’s what upset Laura

Laura knew Niska. She knew that Niska could think for herself and that she deserved rights that established her as an equal under the law. So Laura had been conflicted when she dropped Niska off for her “test” and she had still been thinking about what she could or should have done during therapy later with her husband. Laura and Jo were still going through therapy and their therapist had asked them if they felt support from the other partner so Laura had said “yes” because she knew that Jo would have supported her if she chose to act as Niska’s lawyer. And so the couple continue talking after their session.

They had talked about what Niska was trying to do as well as their relationship. But they were doing better as a couple and they still loved each other. So, in the end, Laura changed her mind and chose to represent Niska to the best of her ability even if there were others that weren’t going to like it however Mattie had also done something. The young woman had gone to the junk yard and had managed to find Odi. Odi was had been in bad shape and so Mattie decided to fix him. And she was looking for the hard drive her mother still has in order to wake Odi up once she was done with fixing him.

Yet, Mattie wasn’t the only one living a bit dangerously. There had also been Mia and her wish if not need to be around humans because she wanted to find out who she was if she wasn’t always running. So that had hurt Mia and Leo’s relationship. The two were going down two separate paths and they didn’t know how to reach each other though they didn’t let that get in the way of what they each wanted. Mia had wanted to be normal and she felt that Leo was getting in the way of that by doing something laughable like rescuing other synths. She had told Leo that they were still figuring things out for themselves like children and that they couldn’t teach or lead anyone.

So Leo had become upset by that because regardless of what Mia said to him, he still believed that they should rescue the synths that were out there alone and at risk. Though the methods that Leo chose to use were beginning to worry Max. Max had stopped Hester from killing their hostage and had thought that Leo would side with him over torturing a human, but Leo no longer cared. He had Hester to thank for finding out where the synths were being taken to and so he himself was questioning if they should keep Hester’s methods around in case they found out anything else they needed to know. And so Max didn’t like what was happening to Leo.

Max would have gone to Mia if he could for help however she had been tied up with her job at the café and had unknowingly let her boss know that she was a conscious synth. So Mia was recuperating from being pushed away by a man that she thought would be her friend and she hadn’t had time to help anyone much less see the problem. But Max later freed their prisoner without telling anyone. He had thought that the prisoner was person just like them and should be free just like them so he freed him. And Hester hadn’t liked that. Hester had seen what Max did and she had killed the prisoner the second she could.

Hester had told her victim before she killed him that she wanted to see if she felt guilt and the answer to that was sadly “no”. Hester hadn’t felt a shred of remorse for what she did and that meant she was dangerous. However, the world was a dangerous place and Hester wasn’t’ the only thing that humans and synths had to worry. There was also a team out there that had wanted to see if they could reproduce conscious synths and who knows what they will do with them once they achieve their goal.

THE END!
