Prince William has reportedly ditched the idea of wearing a wedding ring on his left hand, sparking rumors that his marriage to Kate Middleton may be in trouble.
According to a new report from the National Enquirer, royal sources have been lamenting the fact that Prince William does not wear a wedding ring. These sources have allegedly told the Enquirer, “Kate always wears her sapphire and engagement ring, but the man who is second in line for the British throne didn’t receive a wedding ring. It is not unusual from posh British men not to wear a ring. Rich people in England have a long tradition of not wearing any jewelry.”
Eagle-eyed royal watchers would have already known this, especially given that the many public images of Prince William since his wedding to Kate Middleton have shown his left hand suspiciously ring-less. However, Prince William’s decision to not wear a ring was announced and corroborated with a statement from St. James Palace shortly before the wedding itself, so that rumors and gossip wouldn’t circulate needlessly.
The statement also went into the reasons behind Prince William’s decision not to wear a wedding ring, explaining that it’s a ‘case of personal preference’, and that he simply does not like wearing jewelry of any kind.
This isn’t the first time a royal has decided to forego the tradition of wearing a wedding ring, as Prince Philip also refuses to do so. However, that’s not to say that all royals are the same – Prince Charles has himself bucked the royal tradition of not wearing wedding rings, and wears one next to a signet ring on the little finger of his left hand.
Of course, the fact that Prince William doesn’t wear a wedding ring has been common knowledge in the gossip world for a few years now, but with that said, it seems to have raised fresh discussion after recent rumors of trouble in royal paradise between Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Additionally, various reports have suggested in the past that William’s decision to not wear a wedding ring has rankled Kate Middleton, especially since both of them have publicly claimed that they’re doing everything they can to bring the royals into the modern world. And as such, Prince William foregoing the modern tradition of wearing wedding rings and choosing instead to follow his grandfather’s lead – well, let’s just say it doesn’t look good.
