Queen Elizabeth may not be attending Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. And it’s all because of Meghan’s past.
New reports indicate that even though Prince Harry needs his grandmother’s approval before he marries Meghan Markle, the Queen will most likely skip his wedding day. And there’s a very good reason behind it, too. As the head of the Church of England, the Queen cannot endorse a marriage to a divorcee. Meghan was previously married to her ex-husband Trevor Engelson before the two pulled the plug on their marriage back in 2013.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Queen Elizabeth has skipped a royal wedding. Back in 2005, she didn’t attend Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ wedding and that’s because both of them were previously married.
For Prince Harry, this is devastating news. Both he and his grandmother are rather close and of course he wants her to be present on the most important day of his life. But that’s simply not going to happen. Queen Elizabeth isn’t the kind of person who would break royal protocol. With that being said, there’s nothing that Prince Harry can really do about his girlfriend’s past.
Sure, Meghan has one failed marriage behind her but that’s not stopping Harry from making her his future wife. He also can’t chance the fact that she’s a divorcee. Right now, all he is doing is focusing on taking their relationship to the next level.
Then again, no one knows if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will even make it down the aisle. A lot of royal fans figured that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would at least be engaged by now. After all, they’ve been dating for well over a year now and are serious about their future together.
Some reports say that Harry is simply waiting for the right time to propose to Meghan and that it will happen sooner rather than later. And when it happens, many royal observers believe that they will get married at Westminster Abbey after the church confirmed that they can get married there.
So far Prince Harry has not made any comments about whether or not Queen Elizabeth will be at his wedding or about his relationship with Meghan Markle for that matter. In the meantime, don’t forget to check back with CDL for all the latest news on Meghan Markle and the royal family right here!
