Joseph “McG” McGuire has been a part of Captain Dalton’s team from the beginning. He was their medic and he often patched up whoever he needed to in the field. But the job what with all of the traveling hadn’t really given him or anyone else the chance to be transparent in a relationship. They had all been forced to keep secrets and often they would even have to lie about their identity out in the field. So when McG meat Paloma on one of their nights off, he gave her a fake name and created a whole new person just to keep her at a distance however she wasn’t dumb and she did notice his many tattoos the next morning.

Paloma knew enough about McG’s body ink to know he lied about his job and that it said he was part of the American Special Forces instead of the Canadian one. But Paloma hadn’t been upset when she learned McG lied about his nationality. She had had other things on her mind like her father who she thought McG could help. So Paloma woke up McG and she told him that she could figure out who he was, however, she had needed his help because her father was a Russian spy that she claimed wanted to defect. And so McG took her claims back to Dalton and together the men had been forced to call Campbell.

They knew they had to get clearance from Campbell to speak a possible spy. But Campbell hadn’t liked hearing how one of his men could have been compromised. She suspected that Paloma had played McG and questioned whether or not Paloma’s story was real. Campbell said that meeting a girl in a bar and finding out she needs your help was the oldest trick in the book. So Campbell asked Dalton to tell her everything about Paloma and her father because she didn’t want the situation turning out to be a trap, but Dalton didn’t have a lot to go off of. He said Paloma was an only child, her mother at a young age, and that she attended some of the best boarding schools in Europe afterward before attending college and grad school in Spain.

Now Paloma’s father was allegedly Ivan Sokolov and he didn’t seem like he was a spy. He was a well-traveled history professor and there were no records on him with any of the databases that Dalton could access. But Campbell hadn’t recognized the name either. She had nothing Ivan Sokolov and that he wasn’t showing up at a Russian spy. So Campbell told Dalton and McG that even if Ivan was a spy that he wasn’t high enough to interest in Washington. The big leagues tended to want people that could offer them the information they needed about Russia or that was imperative to the safety of the United States. And so she did want the men to meet Ivan just to find out what was going on.

Ivan, though, had no idea that his daughter had gone to the Americans. He had been shocked when Dalton’s team came for him and had initially denied being anything more than a professor. But Paloma pleaded with him, to tell the truth and so he eventually caved to her demands. Ivan was moved to an offsite and had been put on the computer with Campbell. Campbell said if he was really someone high up that he would recognize and that if he couldn’t that it would be a waste of time talking to him. So Ivan identified her as Assistant Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and so that’s what started their conversation because Campbell then wanted to know how he knew who she was.

Campbell said her people on him and if he could explain why that was if someone as important as he claimed. But Ivan said he was too good to be on anyone’s radar and had even been willing to prove it. He told Campbell that there was a mole in the NSA and that her name was Meghan James. So Campbell had told Ivan that she wanted him to go about his day like the usual and that her people would be watching both him and Paloma while she verified the intel, but first, she wanted to know why he wanted to defect. And so Ivan told her that he was sick. He said he had cancer and that no one would be willing to treat him in Russia because they would prefer him dying with what he knows.

Paloma had also said that she’s why she asked for help from McG. But she later told him that she hadn’t known who he was when they met and that she had gone to the bar that night because she had been sad to hear about her father’s cancer. So that was all well and good however no one on the team trusted the pair and so they remained under surveillance. Paloma had gone back to her apartment and her father had gone back to the campus with half the team. Dalton, Jaz, and Amir had followed Ivan and two of them had been stationed across the street when they noticed something off.

Jaz and Dalton had seen a man checking out the scene as if he was making sure the coast was clear. But Dalton had gone down to the quad to better spy on him when they received even more bad news. Ivan’s handler had called him and had said that they were leaving Spain that night. So that gave Intelligence little time to verify Ivan’s intel and therefore they decided to speed things up. Campbell had promoted Noah to a field officer and had him pretend to be running security with the NSA’s help. And so that gave them the chance to spy on Meghan directly without anyone knowing, but the man in Dalton’s eyesight had made his move and so the team found out someone put a hit on Ivan.

They had all worked together to Ivan carefully out of the building and they had gotten him to a safe house. But Dalton had had to kill one of the operatives after Ivan and so he learned they weren’t Russian. He said they were South American and so that’s when Ivan filled them in about what else he was doing. Ivan had unfortunately gone to the Venezuelans with false information because he had wanted to leave his daughter something after he died. So Campbell thought he was playing like them like he did the other guys and she ordered Dalton’s team to pull back because they had already taken great steps for Ivan without verifying who he was.

But when Noah was able to verify the information, her team had a move without her. They had continued to protect Ivan because they believed him and so he ended up killing a further two foreign operatives on foreign soil without anyone’s consent. One of which being Ivan’s handler. So Campbell later changed the game. She knew Ivan couldn’t just defect and so she faked his death in order to make his people believe he was dead. And his own daughter didn’t even know until after they had played it all out yet the team had needed Paloma to believe her father died to sell it and so Paloma proved to be so happy about her father that she understood why they had staged his death.

She still had to go ahead with his funeral. But Paloma knew her father would get treatment and that he wasn’t in any more danger. So she later agreed to all the stipulations. Like arranging things through a third party to talk to her father and that no one could ever learn the truth, but she and McG had picked up where they left off and he had actually told her his real name before he had to go.

THE END!
