The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Billy (Jason Thompson) will choose Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) again on this week’s new Y&R episodes (April 17-21). While both halves of Philly love other people, their soul mates aren’t sufficiently committed to them. As many readers have likely experienced, rebound relationships provide distractions and so this rush crush will be revived.
There’s no doubt that Billy and Phyllis have physical chemistry. For awhile they even believed that their spark meant love. It didn’t seem to at the time. But this pairing actually wasn’t over, even if many in The Young and the Restless audience and in Genoa City thought Philly was over. Instead this couple was just temporarily delayed.
Billy’s problem involves Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) slow spigot drip consideration of him. No one blames her for being immensely cautious where this man is concerned. She knows that he pushes her emotional buttons and that their past history has always ended badly. Why would this time be any different?
Phyllis’ dilemma is different. Jack (Peter Bergman) recently divorced her and has taken up with Gloria (Judith Chapman). That slap across Phyllis’ face could be heard from here to the Peruvian jail where Marco (also played by Peter Bergman) is once again residing. While Vickie appears to be inching back toward Billy, Jack’s moral wall is currently impenetrable and also guarded by Glo.
Being that they’re both single, available and often running into each other, opportunities for more lip-locks have continued to present themselves. A memorable one occurred inside Jabot’s corporate elevator, as Y&R fans recall. Surely inside this small soapy world Philly will continue to find themselves written within each other’s proximity. Thus ongoing options for sparks will exist.
The Young and the Restless viewers appear to be split about the possibility of Philly reforming, or actually developing into a lasting duo. Some are unable to separate themselves from the Michelle Stafford-Billy Miller era. This scribe initially had trouble doing that as well.
The viewpoint change occurred when considering the cumulative efforts of Thompson and Tognoni. As a result, both actors now own the current versions of their characters. Stafford and Miller will rightfully remain pegged as great, but daytime drama isn’t chosen purely to compare now to then.
All The Young and the Restless fans probably stand in agreement that the old-school versions of Phyllis and Billy would have never connected. But today’s Philly can potentially make sense. At this time in both character’s histories and in considering where Jack and Vickie stand, why can’t Sally Sussman’s team give Phyllis and Billy another chance?
