The Young and the Restless spoilers continue to document all things Adam Newman (as most recently played by Justin Hartley). Only blood relatives of Ebenezer Scrooge have chosen to believe that Adam was blown to bits by Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) in September 2016. All others know that a great character never dies. So, with hope in mind, where will the man in question be on Christmas day?
Executive producer and head writer Mal Young recently advised that an original Christmas episode including some fantasy would be aired. That creates an intriguing possibility. Savvy Y&R fans can also surely imagine where this article is going.
“I came upon the idea of doing four self-contained plays. Because the show had to feel like it could stand alone. I wanted people to watch who hadn’t seen the show to enjoy [the episode] on its own, as well as the fans,” Young said.
Why couldn’t one of those plays show an imagined Christmas where Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois) are with Adam? The added bonus of having, oh, say Michael Muhney revive his role in a winked one-off would be outstanding, setting the soap world ablaze.
The unique nature of the four plays wouldn’t impact Y&R’s existing storyline, or the already shot programming that would follow thereafter. Of course, Muhney’s actual return in this manner could also be a signal that he was joining the cast in the near future.
In effect, this would be an epic teaser. Consider the social media shares and, as importantly, the face-to-face talk that would take place in homes across soap nation during the Christmas holiday.
The face change from Hartley back to Muhney would fall under the suspension of disbelief act. Said soap law compels daytime viewers to accept changes that can’t take place in the real world. Escapist fantasy is like that.
Also, rumors about Muhney’s departure from Y&R (in 2013) were logically squashed when the actor advised he was interviewing with the show to return in the summer of 2014. He was obviously eligible for rehire at that time and wouldn’t have been if rumors about anything untoward had actually happened.
A stand-alone fantasy sequence could have been shot under heavy cover. Fans of The Bold and the Beautiful know that Kimberlin Brown’s return as Sheila Carter in June was held close to the vest, as no media, or social media leaks took place.
Twitter fans have likely noted that Muhney has gone dark on his Twitter feed since November 23. Soaps are notoriously clandestine, which would match his lack of tweets within the last number of weeks. Considering Muhney’s heavy social media interaction, this implies that something big may be up. Of course, hope is mixed into this analysis.
Grinch’s can counter said speculation, as zero official confirmation exists from Y&R or the actor in question. But a super surprise wouldn’t exist if it were announced, right?
Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Muhney is playing the role of Adam Newman. Yes, that would be a surprise Christmas gift alright. CDL is a leading source for everything linked to The Young and the Restless. Check back regularly for Y&R spoilers and news!
