The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that executive producer and head writer Mal Young’s Niktor decision will soon be seen. Upon assuming the keyboard this summer, Young gained deeper creative control. But will he revive the Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) love affair and if so, is that wise?
Niktor just recently separated. They didn’t divorce, which kept the reunion option open. By October they could have signed legal papers and moved on; Nikki to Jack (Peter Bergman) and Victor to whoever. But they didn’t, which left the reunion option open.
Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) peace offering appears to have changed the fight story. He’s no longer at war with Victor, which may help to restore a broader family unity.
The daytime get-together Nikki and Victor had at the Top of the Tower included Victor asking his wife to move back to the Ranch, which surprised her. Nikki than suggested that they would eventually get back together, but possibly, not now. Yes, thawing has occurred inside both minds.
Y&R fans surely know of at least one couple that’s like Niktor. Self-involved, always sharing information about their relationship in every corner of the world.
Sure, they love each other. But how about the rest of humanity? Do their romantic connections matter? Niktor thinks of itself in the morning, afternoon and evening. Everything and everyone else comes second. Well, maybe that assessment is too harsh.
Some people become opposed to marriage when seeing the example that Niktor has offered. As Nikki once advised, theirs is a sick love. It’s manipulative, weird, controlling, involves a lot of yelling and messing with their children’s heads and therefore, lives.
However, when objective observers look at Niktor they basically see two souls who’ve met and never parted. Their exaggerated sense of themselves merely represents the fear of breaking and never rejoining. And, at this point in their lives, the concern that one, or the other will leave the earth before, or long before the other does.
Y&R has rightly promoted Niktor as its top couple for decades. As long as Braeden, it’s lead male star, and Thomas, it’s lead female star, are part of the cast, they should work together as often as possible.
Their scenes can be negative, as when Niktor is split. But this soapy play is better when Niktor is together and happy. Mal Young surely understands that love is timelessly entertaining. Victoria’s looming car crash and developing health mystery will provide a perfect opportunity for a Victor and Nikki reunion!
