The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Victor’s (Eric Braeden) plan to teach Nick (Joshua Morrow) a public lesson will yield mixed results. Yes, Nick has been (rightly) humiliated. But the backlash against The Moustache will likely prove to be far worse.
The build up to the lightning bolt that Hilary (Mishael Morgan) threw this week was intense. And to think that Victor authorized her to shock GC Buzz’ audience with his secret video footage of family battles was incredible. Yet this isn’t a story, it’s fictionally truthful.
Howard (David Faustino), the former owner of Hilary’s website, captured Nick and Victor while perched with Hilary behind a car in the Newman Towers garage. Faustino’s inclusion in this part of the storyline nudges fans of FOX television’s early glory days.
Bud Bundy was a main character on the ground-breaking fourth broadcast network’s age-defining Sunday night sitcom hit Married with Children (1987-1997). While not exactly like the character who made him a star, Faustino’s Y&R persona has the same twinkle in his eye as Al Bundy’s (Ed O’Neill) miscreant son.
Who fits the Kelly (Christina Applegate) role? Well, how about Abby (Melissa Ordway)?
Of course, Victor isn’t comparable to O’Neill’s poor soul alter ego. Though Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) might be connected to high-haired Peg Bundy’s (Katey Sagal) colorful clan. And now, after that TV history commercial it’s time to get back to dysfunctional life in Genoa City.
Victor isn’t thinking rationally. Playing into his worst impulses, he not only slugged Nick in the face, but then decided to allow Hilary to air the footage he paid for on the worldwide web. That’s what the internet was once referred to when Faustino’s career took off.
While semi-retired, Victor is still the face of Newman Enterprises. The rabid nature of modern corporate detractors has generated the employment of paid human tools. These willing goons are used by sinister forces of differing political persuasions to dethrone targeted enemies through selective social media outrage.
So, which meme will the public respond to more strongly; Nick’s sound board sabotage, which likely didn’t employ a Pepsi Blue (a Married with Children era soft drink), or Victor’s timeless right cross? Resultant public pressure, along with client backlash will have the potential to hit Black Knight’s bottom line hard.
Victor has cleverly outed his son’s Bundyish mistake. But he’s also set himself up to look as Ruthless as ever. Yes, that was another throwback reference.
