The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Will Adam Newman Return After Dylan's Tragic Exit - Is Michael Muhney An Option?

The Young and the Restless spoilers detailed every aspect of the Adam Newman (Michael Muhney and Justin Hartley) saga that played out on-camera and behind the scenes during the last three-plus years. And saga is exactly the right term because the controversy certain segments of the audience stirred up is exactly why Y&R might allow Adam to remain dead.

Now that Steve Burton has left The Young and the Restless and Dylan’s final appearance and tragic exit is just around the corner, the absence of a dynamic male lead with Adam’s polarizing influence on Genoa City’s residents will become glaring. Should we expect a return of Adam Newman once Dylan has left the canvas?

Nags are irascible, as are the posers who mimic that personality type. Tag any person as one likes, but the truth reads like this: Michael Muhney was fired because Jill Farren Phelps felt his personality was too disruptive. She subsequently hired Justin Hartley, who became a perfect fit for this rebound recast.

The point wasn’t, isn’t and never will involve which actor was better as Adam. Muhney is a gifted performer who offered reams of electric scenes during his tenure. His social media feed surely has shown that he was humbled by the termination and ongoing outpouring of fan love. Muhney’s also an honest guy, as he’s acknowledged that his personality, not Phelps’ personality, likely cost him his job.

As for all of the noise regarding a cast mate being sexually harassed by said actor. Zero internet nags ever provided any facts that proved that seemingly invented claim. If this scribe’s assessment of those true villains is wrong please cite any or all sources right now. The lack of proof will result in individual convictions, with life sentences being served in Walworth State Prison.

As for Hartley, that solid actor was terrific. His self-deprecating humor set the right tone prior to his debut. Hartley’s nearly two-year effort gave balanced Y&R viewers another view of the Adam character. That, overall potential and his good nature earned him the NBC role on This Is Us. All congratulations and best wishes were well-earned.

So why should Mal Young and Sally Sussman revisit the Adam issue? Muhney’s rehire might poke the hornet’s nest. There’s no doubt that he would create buzz, possibly a sustained whir, upon his return to Y&R. Hunter King (Summer) plays Clementine on CBS’ nighttime show Life in Pieces, while maintaining recurring status on Y&R.

She could neutralize all gnats by offering a public statement of support for Michael Muhney if he ever does return. In lieu of that, hiring another actor to assume the Adam roll would be risky and ridiculous based upon the quality of Hartley’s work and Muhney’s availability as the obvious choice for Adam Newman.

So keeping this Adam Newman character blown apart, or missing might be best from TPTB point of view as it avoids revisiting a sustained firestorm. And this classic soap doesn’t need to handle that type of mess ever again.

However fans deserve to have Adam back in Genoa City so all his critical storylines can be properly completed and Y&R can once again boast the strongest and most compelling male character on soaps today.
