Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that fans had better get ready for a shocker. Although there’s no official confirmation just yet, we’re hearing very strong buzz about a crucial recast. DOOL insiders insist the show wasn’t able to secure The Young and the Restless star Eileen Davidson’s return as Kristen DiMera.
That lines up with a Soap Opera Digest blind item from a while back. It said one soap was disappointed they couldn’t lock down a fan favorite’s short-term return. Davidson also plays Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless, but her contract allows her to work on Days when her schedule permits.
However, Ashley has had plenty of material on Y&R lately especially with the Abbott paternity crisis. Davidson probably just couldn’t squeeze in a trip back to Salem. She’s a busy woman, so it’s understandable if she couldn’t make the commitment.
Unfortunately, Days had already set a story for Kristen in motion. DOOL viewers will recall that Kristen said something significant during her blink-and-you’ll-miss-her guest spot. Davidson mostly came back as Susan Banks, but her final scene featured Kristen laughing about EJ (James Scott) still being alive.
Of course, that news suggested Kristen would show up again one day to explain herself. She’ll surely get confronted at some point. Whatever the case, Days apparently decided that they just couldn’t do without Kristen for an upcoming storyline.
With that in mind, who will dare to take Queen Eileen’s place?! It looks like Days of Our Lives may borrow another Young and the Restless actress. This also hasn’t been confirmed yet, but there’s certainly lots of chatter about Stacy Haiduk (Y&R’s Patty Williams) taking over the role. That fits with another SOD blind item about an actress doing some soap hopping.
Here are our thoughts on all the drama. It probably would’ve been better to avoid this recast situation entirely since Davidson IS Kristen. Days watchers aren’t going to be happy with anyone else in the part.
That said, Haiduk is a solid replacement if they must. She plays “Crazy Patty” to perfection whenever she pops up on Y&R. Haiduk could undoubtedly pull off her own version of Kristen, even if fans aren’t exactly thrilled about it. Days of Our Lives spoilers hint that Kristen will kick off her next stint with an appearance at John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) wedding, so stay tuned.
