Sherlock is prepping for a case as a maestro. Joan calls. She needs him down here now before they discover she isn’t a professional tuba player. The doorbell rings. A man by the name of David is on the stoop and needs help. It is a matter of life or death. His brother Norman, who is mentally ill with schizophrenia, has died. Before he passed on he was writing obituaries in advance for regular citizens.  All of his obits have come true in terms of dates and times. Sherlock tells him he will take the case. The man tells him he doesn’t want to hire him. He came to warn him that Norman writes his obit and Sherlock is supposed to die in 3 days time.

Joan shows up and is told all about this strange happening. She and Sherlock meet with David and his wife. Sherlock thinks there is a killer out there doing this all. David shows them down into the cellar into Norman’s room. David explains that his brother believed in simulation theory – God was a computer programmer. He met with others who believed the same thing. They find a letter of correspondence with one of their former very rich clients.

Joan and Sherlock go to see their former client. Sherlock believes the killer is a zealot. Their client gives them a list of some of the more aggressive simulation believers he has met.

At home, Sherlock wants to talk to Joan about what happens after he dies, if he does. He gives Joan his will. He has left Joan everything. She is touched and in shock when she finds out he has some substantial shocks. When they log in to take a look Sherlock realizes he has been robbed. But he isn’t surprised or upset, just annoyed.

Marcus and Joan meet with one of the victim’s husband. He cannot believe Christina would kill herself by jumping off the roof of the building. They ask him about Norman. He doesn’t know the man and is confused when they explain how he wrote her obit in advance. Joan and Marcus head up to the roof to take a look around. They spot a newer builder nearby. They must have cameras.

Sherlock, Joan, and Marcus review the footage. Christina jumps in the video with no-one around. Later, at home Sherlock sits in the living room trying to solve the case. Joan gets up. She notices he didn’t sleep. David calls. He asks Sherlock if he told the media about his brother. He has news reporters on his front lawn. Sherlock thinks whoever leaked the information could be the killer.

Sherlock heads down to the news station to meet the reporter. He pretends to be someone else. She figures out he is lying. He tells her who he is and that they are dealing with a serial killer. She admits it was from an anonymous caller.
