Tonight on CBS their reboot of the classic series Magnum P.I. premieres with an all-new Monday, November 19, 2018, episode and we have your Magnum P.I.recap below. On tonight’s Magnum P.I. season 1 episode 9, “The Ties That Bind,” as per the CBS synopsis, “After a 16-year-old kidnap victim, Amanda, escapes her captors, her parents hire Magnum, who experienced similar trauma as a POW, to find who took her.”

Magnum gets a call from a teen girl’s parents. Amanda was abducted weeks back and managed to escape after 5 days but the man who took her was never captured. They want Magnum to find him. The police haven’t had any luck and believe the man might have taken her to try and sell her. He asks to talk to Amanda. He tries to talk to her but she is guarded and angry. He tries to sympathize with her and tells her he was held too when he was in the military. She gets that people want to help but she wants to be left alone. She leaves the room.
Magnum knows what he needs, someone who is gentler than him – Higgins. He asks her to meet with Amanda. Higgins agrees to help. She invites Amanda over for some yoga. At first, she is hesitant but then the two get to work.
Magnum meets with Katsumoto who fills him in on the case. He isn’t happy Magnum is on the case but he does want to see the kidnapper caught.
Higgins encourages Amanda to keep trying yoga. She can do it and when she does she will feel great. Later, Higgins knocks on Magnum’s door. Amanda is ready to talk. The two of them meet with Amanda and she details her horrific ordeal, being trapped in a shed with her hand’s zip tied. She escaped and ran miles in the dark to survival. They try a technique so that Amanda can concentrate and try and figure out where she was. She closed her eyes and tracks back through what happened. She recalls the smell of mint. They think they have an idea where to start.
Magnum, Rick, and Higgins trek through some woods where they think Amanda was taken. TC flys overhead to get a better look around. They find a shed, zip-ties with blood and ATV tracks. They hear a crackle. A man comes out of the bushes and runs for it. They nab him. After talking to him they realize this isn’t their man. He is homeless and just staying in the shed. A man did come by and paid him to get lost for a week.
Magnum and Higgins show Amanda a picture of the man. It isn’t him but when she sees Katsumoto and his badge she loses it. They piece it all together. She was abducted by a cop. Katsumoto is disgusted and tells Magnum they need to keep it all quiet.
Magnum tells Amanda how he made it through. How his friends and their safety became his focus and it helped him be less afraid. TC calls. They have a lead on ATV rentals. They head over. The place is locked so they break in and find monitors that are on and watching Amanda’s home. Meanwhile, Amanda’s mom is being kidnapped.
Katsumoto shows Amanda a photo of a man. That’s him, she declares. Kuma takes her into the other room while Katsumoto, Magnum and Higgins talk.
The kidnappers call Amanda’s father who decides to meet with them alone to save his wife. When he gets into the building where they are to meet, the kidnapper tells him he needs to kill a man in the building or his wife dies. The man is an attorney general. He supplies him with a gun.
Meanwhile, Magnum gets creative with Higgins help and manages to get the clothes from a security guard in the building. He makes his way into the area where Amanda’s father is and stops him just in time as he draws the gun. Katsumoto brings SWAT in and has to shoot the kidnapper. They can’t find Amanda’s mother. Magnum and Higgins find an associate to the kidnapper trying to make a run for it. Magnum beats the information out of him and discovers they buried her alive in the same woods where Amanda was held. The whole team rushes there as the time ticks away. They dig and dig and finally find her. The family is reunited. Amanda hugs Magnum and thanks him for keeping his promise. He smiles as does Higgins.
