The search for Cleopatra brought Danny and Lexi to Bavaria. It was where the sarcophagus of the Egyptian Queen was taken once the Nazis raided her grave with Antony. They failed to get their hands on the Roman general, but they did have enough opportunity to take Cleopatra and transfer her back to the fatherland. No sooner was being shown off at dinner parties that Germany was bombed and the Nazis were forced to hide what they stole. They were able to hide her location and their only mistake had been the one picture they left behind. The Nazis took a photo with the sarcophagus in what appeared to be a castle. The castle was Castle Schadelberg and it could be found through a simple google search.

The castle was also known for being a Nazi headquarters near the Austria border. The Nazis did a tremendous of work to it because they claimed that they had to stabilize the castle, but they probably used the excuse that it was lying on bedrock to create hidden quarters. Danny and Lexi decided to go after Cleopatra and they kept their friends in law enforcement out of the loophole. Bruno and Gwen had no idea they were heading to Bavaria because they were still searching for Antony. Bruno had been cut out of that investigation as well and so he snuck away to the location. He failed at finding Antony and instead came across someone from the Brotherhood. The secret group he belonged to has its own problems.

The brother that Bruno ran into was the same man that accepted payments from Farouk and faked his own death. Bruno couldn’t let anyone else grab him and so he kidnapped him so that the Brotherhood could deal with their internal problem. Bruno was off dealing with his fallen brother when Lexi and Danny got to the castle. They pretended to be a couple on their honeymoon and it worked for a while. Then they got snuck with a tour guide that wanted to cover the seven-hundred-year history of the castle rather than the ten years it was occupied by the Nazis, but Lexi and Danny ditched the tour and hid out until the museum closed. And later they snuck out to go searching for the Nazi lair.

The Nazis were firm believers in Aryan mysticism. They wanted to believe they were the superior race and so they followed a man constantly high on various drugs. Its was the drugs that made Hitler so paranoid and that paranoia was lent to his loyal foot soldiers. It took an old painting for Danny to realize the lair was connected to the basement and while he knew his Nazi history it had been Lexi thinking as a thief that opened the lair. They found a reconstruction of Cleopatra’s tomb that the Nazis must have set up to display the many treasures they stole from the pyramids and what the treasure hunters didn’t find right away was Cleopatra. They were busy looking for the dead queen while Farouk’s men were closing in.

The picture they were using had a bunch of a Nazis in it and one child. The child was the granddaughter of an important Nazi official and she was still alive. At least she was until she met Farouk’s man. She was most likely tortured and then killed once she gave up the location. Meaning Farouk was willing to kill anyone that got in the way of what he wanted and what he wanted was revenge. He let his plan slipped when he kidnapped an archeologist several years ago and that man was liberated by Danny. Danny saved Simon Hardwick’s life back in 2014 after the man had been held prisoner for a year. Hardwick was forced to help Farouk acquire ancient antiquities and he would dare help the man again.

Which was odd because Hardwick had been the man to transfer money to Max Najjar. Najjar was the fallen brother that Bruno killed real quick and so both he and Gwen wanted to know why Hardwick had gotten involved with him. They questioned if Hardwick was funding terrorism, but Hardwick told them what happened to him and that he’s been keeping a low profile ever since. He says he was a dealer and that his clients relied on discretion. He also said he gave Najjar the money because the man was in a bind and he didn’t want to get on his bad side. Hardwick knew that Najjar was a part of the Brotherhood because Najjar once tried to sell his medallion and no one terrified Hardwick more than the Brotherhood.

That’s when Bruno realized the full extent of Najjar’s betrayal. He turned on the Brotherhood the moment he explained his order to an outsider and so no wonder he agreed to work with Farouk. Najjar stopped caring about their ancient mission and he took an interest in money, but back in Bavaria, Danny and Lexi realized that Cleopatra wasn’t hidden in the castle. She had been hidden elsewhere and the key to that was written in Kreisau code. Neither of them knew this code and so they called Chuck. Chuck knew a couple of Jesuits who translated the code using a Kreisau bible and it translates to “Sauber-depot, garage 18”. It was an old panzer repair depot and there was no safer place than a military base back then.

Danny and Lexi went to the site. They found a freight elevator that has long fallen to disuse, but they climbed down there and they found a bunch of gold bars. It was the golden the Nazis stolen from the Jews and melted down when they sent the rightful owners to the camps. What they didn’t find was Cleopatra. She must have been moved again and no sooner did they realize this that Farouk made his move. He grabbed Lexi and left Danny to die in the elevator tunnel. Danny’s ladder collapsed under his weight and he was left down there with no way of climbing out on his own.

THE END!
