Chicago Fire begins tonight with Matt (Jesse Spencer) waking up Naomi (Kate Villanova) because the entire place is on fire. He tells her that he is getting them out of there but she needs to be ready. He is able to break a wall through the wall as the fire is spreading too fast and she can’t make a call. Matt shoves her through the wall and both are able to escape. Matt alerts all the neighbors to get out, asking Naomi to call 911. CFD arrives and Matt tells them to be careful and where the fire is exactly, checking on Naomi.

Naomi and Matt reveal to the investigator about what they have discovered and are certain it is arson, as the apartment smelled like gasoline. Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) arrives on the scene, as Matt says they are okay, but just pissed off. Casey’s apartment is ruined, as Naomi says a lot of her research was elsewhere, but some of it was in Casey’s place. Parker returns and says there is no question that this was arson and are told to come in for questioning.

Boden tells everyone at Firehouse 51, saying he will keep them all up to date when he hears anything but he expects them all to stay focused on the job. Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) says Matt lost everything tonight and asks everyone to kick in and pitch money for him, with the boot on the table. Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) gets a call from Tyler, saying she had dinner with him last night, just as Kelly (Taylor Kinney) walks out. Sylvie (Kata Killmer) reminds her that Kelly isn’t doing so great himself, as she says him at Molly’s the previous night drinking up and emptying the taps; she doesn’t give any relationship advice, revealing she just asked out Chaplain Kyle Sheffield (Teddy Sears).

Everyone leaves the room, as Boden asks the medics to come with him. Kelly is on the phone talking to some guy who wants him to fix his boat. Stella is surprised that he is back doing that; she admits she went out with Tyler last night for some food after he says he went to her place last night and she wasn’t there. She says she can’t do all the work there and he suggests it shouldn’t be this much work; she agrees and walks out.

Stella and Emily (Annie Ilonzeh) are asked to take over the career week at Lincoln High school since Matt is a little busy. Stella is very excited about it, saying they will being in Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte) and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) to help create a killer presentation. Meanwhile, Severide finds Matt at work, who says he needs a shower and some clothes; Naomi will meet him there and together with the CPD. Kelly offers him some stuff, hand him the keys, suggesting he get some sleep and his place is now Matt’s for as long as he needs it; they both say the other looks like hell.

The crews rush off to a vehicle accident, as a mover is determined to get his things back in the truck in order to make his deadline, but in doing so he begins to crush the vehicle in front of him. Kelly tells his crew to stabilize the truck so he can save the driver inside; the trucker continues to yell about being in Seattle and Kelly order them to shut him up! Stella is able to move him away as they save the driver, but the woman is barely out when the truck shifts almost killing Kelly while he was still inside; something Stella watches in absolute horror.

Back at the firehouse, Bradley Boyd (Jordan Belfi) arrives to see Kelly see if he can set the hook. He shows Kelly the photo of the boat and Kelly tells him about the boat and how he got a good one. He is hoping to have it seaworthy by summer, learning he was recommended by Greg at the marina. He believes Kelly will take his time and do it right; without hesitation, Kelly says he will do it. Herrmann walks by with the boot for donations and Bradley donates a huge amount of money.

Stella continues to be excited over the presentation but Cruz tells her that is not how it works because it will put them on a bad review on social media. Mouch says the kids will respond to food, but Stella has a cheer she insists on doing and Cruz says it is a definite no.

The detective shows up, talking to Matt, Naomi, and Boden saying they found a melted can but no fingerprints and the guy was wearing a hoodie so they cannot identify them. He does reveal all the Mayfields have alibis for that night; Naomi says Gordon Mayfield doesn’t do things on his own and hired someone but the detective feels Gordon isn’t that dumb.

Boden says Matt and Naomi barely got out alive; but the detective says he can’t go any harder at the Mayfields without exhausting all other leads, explaining that Matt makes enemies, especially since being in politics and Naomi wrote about a kingpin so he needs to explore everything. Matt is furious as everything he owns is ash and this detective is too scared to go after Mayfield, storming out of the office.

Naomi confronts the detective about the threatening voicemail and he tells them he understands their frustration but they have to let him do it his way. Cindy shows up at the firehouse, revealing she just got him the basics and Matt learns that Herrmann had been passing around the boot. He calls Cindy and Herrmann the best as he reveals the detective hasn’t made an arrest and Herrmann says he just needs to be patient. Matt tells Naomi he is going to confront the Mayfields himself; Naomi says she has her own way of finding information.

In his office, Naomi lets Matt listen to the threatening voicemail as she is able to break in and get the employee records from everyone who works at Grandbrok company; Matt goes to print up all the phone numbers.

Emily and Sylvie continue to bounce ideas off each other as Cindy comes in and suggests they do some cheers; Mouch says they need to bring food as everyone responds to that. Brian “Otis” Zvonecek (Yuri Sardarov) suggests they do an obstacle course, with everyone agreeing but Mouch who thinks it will end with a lawsuit. Severide looks for Stella but she already left so he decides to go drinking with the guys.

Stella is at home with Tyler who wants to hang out at home some more; saying this is his last night before he heads back to Texas. He says he isn’t going to lie and being with her has made him realize some things as timing might not be right for them back in the day and now they can’t wait for things to happen. He leans in to kiss her and she shoves him away as he says he is in love with her. She says she needed a friend and he knew that. He is angry this is about Kelly but she orders him to leave.

Matt and Naomi go through all the numbers, calling each of them. Matt asks for her phone charger just as Naomi figures out who the caller was, a man named Gary, who is the director of security. She wants to call the CPD Detective but Matt wants to dig a little deeper and make a real case. Mouch and Cruz talk about how upended life has been for Matt lately. Cruz is excited at how Chloe is getting better and got the all clear to go back to work next week. Stella walks in as Herrmann questions her, but she insists that she simply needs to be there right now.

Kelly knocks on the door, where Bradley shows him the boat inside the garage. Kelly smiles, saying the boat is nice. He has to inspect it, but he admits she is in pretty good condition. Bradley offers him fifteen grand to do it and Kelly quickly agrees. Bradley argues with his son, Riley and drags him into the driveway watching as Bradley gives his son a lot of money to go out for pizza by himself. He is going to give Kelly the keycode and can work whenever he wants, but tells Kelly if Riley bothers him to send him inside.

Matt and Naomi knock on a door, where the man who answers the door saying there is no Gary Szyrski living there, but Matt checks the mailbox confirming otherwise. Matt goes to the back of the house where he sees the man attempting to escape and gives chase, knocking him into some garbage bins, asking him where he is going. Inside the house, Naomi question Gary, who says he was simply trying to help them, but she thinks he is wrapped up in their schemes. Gary admits he has a sick little girl and when Mayfields offered him side jobs, he used the extra cash. He promised he never hurt anybody.

Matt and Naomi confront Gordon Mayfield about all the things they have against him, but just when he says he can’t prove anything; Gary comes around the corner as Matt asks the other man if he torched his place. CPD and the detective arrive and arrest the Mayfields but say he needs to take statements from everyone; Gary is more than willing to talk.

They set up the obstacle course in the firehouse, as Stella says they will tire the kids out and then give them a brief lesson on what they do in the fire service. Lincoln Park Senior Center bus arrives and they realize this is a fire safety class for seniors. Mouch comes out and tells them where the tacos are, telling Stella to feed them, show them a fire safety video and then send them home. Mouch admits he knew this whole time it was seniors as they come every few years.

Kelly is busy working on the boat when Riley comes out to see what he is doing. Kelly tells him to grab a scrapper, sets up a ladder and shows him how to gently scrap off the crud; smiling as the kid picks up on what to do right away.

Matt rummages through what is left of his apartment finding a photo of him and Gabi. Naomi comes in, while a devastated Matt says a lifetime of stuff will now fit into a cardboard box. He says there is more to it than just being stuff and a lot has happened in these four walls. She apologizes for bringing this to his doorstep. He agrees they did a good thing but realizes she is leaving to Zurich for an assignment but she doesn’t like cutting their time short; both wishing there was more of it. She thinks he should take the stuff and put it somewhere safe and forget about it as now is the time to make new memories and have fun. They share a gentle goodbye kiss and Naomi walks away as Matt smiles.

Kelly finds Stella outside his apartment, who is very upset. She says he was right about Tyler and apparently she is an idiot. She tells him it doesn’t matter as it was never about Tyler but he has been pushing her away since his dad died. She has tried to make it work, his jealousy and shutting her out is taking him down a dark hole and she has been there with Grant. She says she has been the lifeline for a drowning man and will never do it again; she loves him but can’t be with him anymore. She walks away leaving Kelly standing alone.
