FBI Recap 04/30/19: Season 1 Episode 20 "What Lies Beneath"

Toronto, Canada – An important man is accompanied by several men to New York after getting a phone call at a hotel in Toronto. A Bellhop watches, taking video.

Jubal updates the team on their latest mission – guarding an Egyptian leader who is coming to New York for a new heart. He is in the air now from Toronto. OA tells Maggie he has heard of the man, he works for the secret police.

OA gets put on security detail for the foreign dignitary, El-Masri, while Maggie takes Agent Perkins with her in the field to do some research. They head to a local convenience store where they want to know the buyer of a cell phone. The owner gives them a hard time but supplies them video footage. They find their man, Karim who is connected to a video of El-Masri’s motorcade. They start tracking his financials.

Maggie and Perkins arrive at a hotel where Karim stayed the night before. His room is empty but he left a written note. They need to figure out what it means.OA is in route to the hospital with El-Masri. Traffic backs up. OA gets out and walks up to the road. Gunfire rings out. They rush out of there. One of the agents is shot in the leg. El-Masri gets angry. He needs to get to the hospital and not another way closer by. Jubal changes the hospitals out to a closer one that needs to be secured.

Maggie and Perkins find Karim on a bus. Meanwhile, OA is asked by El-Masri where he is from. El-Masri asks him why he dislikes him. OA tells him he doesn’t like what he has done with the secret police. Innocent people have been detained. El-Masri tells him it is not all black and white.

Maggie and Perkins question Karim. It leads them to a man named Zev who Jubal knows as a professional assassin. Jubal gets to update the team on Zev, who called Karim with the plate number. Zev is going to keep trying to kill El-Masri. Kristen tracks down someone who knows Zev, a Barry Foster.

Maggie and Perkins arrive to pick-up Barry. They find him dead. Meanwhile, Dana thinks Zev may have manipulated this situation with the hospitals to get to El-Masri.

OA speaks with El-Masri who admits he knows Zev. He once hired him to take out a known rapist. Maggie calls OA, Barry was a worker at the hospital where they are now.

Jubal calls OA to warn him that Zev is in the hospital. They catch a glimpse of him moments later. He takes off fast, dodging them all. Kristen finds a connection between Zev and a White Plains storefront being rented. Maggie and Perkins head there. They find plans for a bomb. He must have put one in the hospital.

OA gets Zev in the hospital who was hiding out after getting hurt. They learn the bomb is on a timer. Zev asks him where it is but Zev isn’t talking. OA squeezes his wounds. Maggie walks in. She knows where it is according to the hospital engineer. They find it and call in a bomb tech. They watch terrified as she works on disconnecting the bomb. The timer is still going after she clips the yellow wire. They watch in anticipation.

OA tries to explain to Maggie about what she saw with Zen. She tells him not to worry. OA gets the news that El-Masri has died. His body rejected the heart.

Maggie meets with an attorney for a dinner date. They talk. He tells her how thankful he is to have her husband’s heart. She talks about how happy she is now.
