Grey’s Anatomy begins tonight with Dr. Jo Karev (Camilla Luddington) insisting she hasn’t gone to work all week because she has a bug but her husband, Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) begs her to talk to him. She tells him to go to work so she can simply sleep. Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) runs towards Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), who reveals they got the call that morning for the perfect heart donor match. The two go to see Dr. Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen) and Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), who is annoyed that they are hovering over her while she did a 5 minute radiation treatment. Jackson reveals they have a patient coming in who needs an abdominal wall transplant as well as his penis and scrotum; Catherine smiles as she wants to put on scrubs and jump into the surgery; shouting that her baby brought her a penis.

Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) walks onto the elevator where Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Leo are going to daycare. Owen gives her updates on the baby’s progress, reminding Owen that he doesn’t need to communicate with her through a baby; both exiting to see Dr. Tom Koracick (Greg Germann) and Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) looking at houses. Amelia leaves the awkward situation as Teddy feels she doesn’t want to raise a baby in a hotel room, Owen suggests she stay with him but she declines.

Alex walks into Dr. Miranda Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) office, who is surprised how Alex is still in a suit. She freaks out that Alex hasn’t filled out the compliance reports for the medical board; but he escapes when Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) informs Bailey the highschoolers who enrolled in a stem program are there to learn about leadership. She is trying to delegate the students to Schmitt, who welcomes them into her office and leaves her muttering.

Dr. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) finds out that Meredith hasn’t spoken to Richard since the party; although Richard gave him a surgery to perform, she advises him not to screw it up. He follows Richard to the OR and Meredith is off to get her “penis”. Dr. Taryn Helm (Jaicy Elliot) updates Alex on Gus Carter’s (Christian Ganiere) recurring sinus infection. Alex asks about tests but they learn that Gus is autistic and can’t handle being touched. Alex attempts to talk to him, but he immediately panics when Alex tries to use his flashlight to look into his ears. Alex tells Taryn they will need to get creative to help him.

Meredith is thrilled to see Dr. Megan Hunt (Abigail Spencer), asking a million questions. Megan shows off her belly, saying this is what won the Catherine Avery Award and they should all be looking. She tells Meredith not to mess up on her patient, but is more excited to learn that Teddy is there. Meanwhile, Meredith informs Owen via text that Megan is there but it is too late as she hugs them both, thrilled they are finally together and having a baby. It stumps both Teddy and Owen who are forced to explain everything to her. She says there is so much stupidity to their story that her brain cannot process; calling Owen a “Dumb Dumb!”

Teddy wants to defend him but doesn’t want to get in between them but Megan feels Teddy is more angry with him. Tom walks in talking about a house, forcing Teddy to explain he is her boyfriend, not a realtor. Megan shakes his hand and calls her brother a dumb dumb again.

Jackson is reviewing the procedure with Meredith, who is more concerned about Andrew performing a Lapi with Richard. Jackson assures her that DeLuca is fine, trying to get her back on track and insisting they don’t screw up this surgery as it is his mom’s first one since she got back. Meredith laughs at his terminology when he says, “this is a whole new ball game!”

Alex talks to Gus about the space needle, he admits that his chest hurts when they go out, able to show him how much it hurts by the level of legos he uses. Alex orders a chest CT. Taryn is impressed he was able to get through to him. Alex bumps into Dr. Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack), who is shocked that Jo found her birth mom. Alex feels she trusts Link, and maybe he could reach out to her; which he agrees to.

Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) walks into one of her therapy rooms and finds Amelia, who vents about her issues with Owen but raves about having enormous amounts of sex; Maggie turns her around, showing her Miranda and several students with her.

Alicia Davis (Guiliana Carullo) is Andrew and Richard’s patient, who is busy flirting with him as he explains that this is her appendix. He has no interest in her Instagram, but Richard reminds him that patient care includes putting the patient at ease. He looks at her photos, while she asks about her being hot and tells him not to leave a scar.

Caleb Hicks (Sommer Carbuccia) is there for his implants as Levi explains he had severe damage done to his lower extremities during an IED blast in Afghanistan. Caleb is thrilled to meet Catherine, calling her a “legend.” She explains how the recovery is rough, but he insists he can do it. Megan is surprised to learn her brother will be in the OR, but she explains she feels Caleb would be more comfortable with another set of hands that belong to a veteran.

Link bangs on JO’s door until she opens it up. He brings her chicken soup and finds his way inside, even though she continues to push that she is sick. He doesn’t listen to her, looking for utensils as she crawls back into bed and buries herself in the blankets.

Owen walks in on Megan and Levi going over Caleb’s surgery. Schmitt is the one who reads off all the organs that are going to be transplanted; as Owen asks for some time, saying before they go into the OR he wants to make sure everything is okay between them. She is furious that she has worked 10 months with this patient and is bored with his incessant need to make things okay. She only wants him to understand the steps of the procedure, which he assures her he is.

Meredith continues to fret over Andrew doing the Lapi, just as she and Jackson start their procedure. He reminds her that Andrew will be fine, but she admits that Richard caught her and Andrew together. Jackson laughs, saying Richard caught him and Maggie once too. He tells her that if she is this worried she needs to think about how nervous DeLuca is. Megan tells Caleb that “it” looks healthy as his mother makes fun, suggesting she tell him the donor’s shoe size. Anna (Enisha Brewster), his fiancee, arrives but he screams to get her out right now. Everyone shocked at his reaction.

Alex shows Maggie the scan of Gus’ sinus gland, as they talk about the size of the mass on it. She feels they are almost always malignant but could scrub in. Alex is too concerned that Link hasn’t responded to him, asking if everything is okay. He wants to go book an OR but Taryn says Gus is severely anemic and they can’t operate until they transfuse him.

Jo confronts Link on him checking on her. She just wants to sleep and asks him to leave. He drops the dirty laundry and brings up a former girlfriend and how her dumping him, made him a shell but he had this friend who came to his place; even though he wanted to be left alone. This friend stayed and did his laundry, he says this is not revenge, just a friend doing another friend’s laundry. Jo gets up and takes the Vodka out of the freezer as he says he will join her.

Catherine listens as Caleb is angry his mother called Anna. The truth begins to come out, as Anna reveals she is not out on assignment and demands to know what surgery he is having as she has no information because Caleb dumped her 10 months earlier. Megan says she is an essential part of his recovery, having a good support system. Caleb wants everyone out of his room and do his surgery so he can leave everyone alone. Catherine refuses to do the surgery as she isn’t giving that man a penis; something all the students hear and have questions for Miranda.

Richard asks DeLuca where he thinks things are going long term with Meredith. He knows she has a family and he respects that. He calls her amazing and makes him so happy, but Richard corrects him as he wants to know about his surgical career going and has he thought about a specialty. He finds general surgery attractive, but they are interrupted by finding a dead bowel.

Jackson sits with his mother as Catherine feels the patient is not mentally nor emotionally prepared for this surgery. She knows how important it was to have a support system because, without Jackson nor Richard, she never would have been able to do this. She insists she is scared and tired but that is not the reason she is canceling. Jackson informs Owen and Megan that he agrees with Catherine, but Owen feels he can talk to Caleb as he is the one with a penis. Megan is insulted but knows her brother is right.

DeLuca finds something during surgery and wants to complete the more complicated surgery, something Richard quips about, but he is able to prove he knows what he is doing.

Maggie and Alex talk to Gus’s parents, who grow concerned with all the medical conditions. Gus panics as he is having a reaction to the blood. Maggie is able to encourage him to take slow, deep breaths. Megan finds Teddy looking at houses and confronts her on her suffering from afar for a long time. She knows she loves Owen and he loves her; they can move in together and raise Leo and the baby together. Teddy says she wouldn’t move into Amelia’s bed and raise her family there, reminding her that Megan would burn the house down before she moved into it.

Owen takes Caleb for a walk, talking about their tours. Caleb says he broke up with Anna because he wasn’t right in the head. He couldn’t be with her as he wasn’t a man and didn’t want Anna to live like that. Owen explains his loss, but when he returned he broke up with his fiancee with a 3-line email. Caleb says Anna was his everything as Owen tells him to give her everything he has got and people can surprise you. Owen tells Catherine and Megan that Caleb told Anna the truth and she isn’t going anywhere. He advocates for Caleb, informing her that every time he performed surgery on soldiers the first thing the would ask is if their penis was still there and he firmly believes Caleb needs this surgery far more than she will ever know.

Miranda demands to know how they gave Gus the wrong blood type; but once they run another test, Maggie calls his blood “golden” as it is RH null; less than 50 people have been documented to have this blood type. DeLuca apologizes for overstepping but he saw the whole procedure in his head and wanted to show him he was worthy of… Richard asks him what he is worthy of as Dr. Grey is the head of surgery. He would put in a good word, but Andrew is content with it.

Meredith and Jackson continue to work on their organs, while Jackson admits that ever since Catherine got sick, he got scared all the time. Meredith was worried about Richard, as Jackson felt that he never had a father until he thought of it just being him and Richard. Meredith confesses she always thought of Richard as her father until Thatcher was dying. She bolts to go work in her own lab, saying she doesn’t need to do the same surgery twice.

The OR is prepped and Catherine takes the lead as they begin Caleb’s surgery; Megan and Owen working side by side. After the stomach is attached, Jackson and Catherine are ready to attach the penis alone. She promises if things get worse she will tell him and not keep any secrets from him. She thanks him for the beautiful gift as good blood flow is confirmed.

Link and Jo are extremely drunk, talking about his “classy” girlfriend that he loved. Jo felt she was doing a favor for him. Jo gets serious, saying she has done that favor a lot; talking about walking into the restaurant right after she broke up with Logan, dated for months and than one day they were making out and he said he loved her, but she immediately felt the opposite as no one should feel that way about her. She simply up and left town without a word and did the same thing to the guy before him and Paul too. She believes it is in her wiring like her mother, who is a runner. She says she loves Jo, but can’t even sit in the same room as him. She begins to talk about her father, saying she always runs, it is what she does! She finds another bottle of vodka, but Link feels she has had enough. She doesn’t care.

Miranda returns to her office, feeling she should reschedule the student but they feel they learned so much about leadership skills and communication. They think she was better than Yoda; Schmitt walks in with the reports but Miranda stops him, saying he is ruining a moment as the students are thrilled by how many women worked there. He reveals that Karev has delegated it to everyone, monthly.

Meredith finds Richard, who says the surgery was fine but DeLuca got a little snippy with him but he is a good surgeon and a good man.

Alex and Maggie explain how Gus can only receive blood from a donor that has the exact same blood type as him and so far they have found 4 potential donors in the entire world. Alex is sure they will find the blood, promising they are not going to give up until they fix him as Gus found a way to tell them what was wrong. He checks his phone again, but nothing.

Miranda shows Richard how efficiently Alex was running the interns; Miranda says Karev did something better than them as Richard insists he can never know. Megan finds Owen, feeling someone needs to tell him the truth as he is an idiot. He needs to find a way to feel he is worthy of finding joy and happiness in his life, but thanks to everything that happened during the war he won’t allow it. He shouts that they can’t all be her and Riggs. She tells him to shut up as she explains how much therapy they are doing. She confronts him about everything he has done, suggesting he isn’t well and needs to do the work to fix it.

Richard walks Catherine home as Andrew and Meredith enjoy TV and eating. Alex laughs hysterically at cartoons while Link grows more concerned. Alex returns home as Link gets her more ice. Alex was scared at the text Link sent, insisting Jo is not fine. He has seen her in rough shape, but never like this. He wants to help Jo but doesn’t know how.
