Grey’s Anatomy starts tonight with Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) running into Dr. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) while at her community service, informing him that they scheduled her hearing for 3 months from now. He feels that isn’t too bad, encouraging her to have a nice day and look out for needles. One of the women who are on work detail with her has burnt herself on an iron; Meredith shocked they never sent her to the ED and given her antibiotics, she wants to know if Meredith is going to do that for her.

Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) arrives with a box of donuts, enjoys eating it saying he doesn’t miss the green smoothies but she is moping around as she lost all her joy because of her job; her husband Ben Warren (Jason George) has no problem telling her how important she is to him still. Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) sits with Dr. Jo Karev (Camilla Luddington), saying she doesn’t need to return to work if she isn’t ready, but she feels it is time and people can mock her. He suggests she can work for him as no one knows who she is and run her own fellowship. Jo feels she needs to keep her life as normal as possible.

Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) wonders aloud to Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) whether it is appropriate to tell Dr. Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack) in a text that she is pregnant. Maggie reminds her Link is a decent person and deserves a face to face. She wonders if it would be in poor taste if she took all the toilet paper since she was the one who always bought it.

Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) gets in the elevator with Dr. Thomas Koracick (Greg Germann), who calls Owen a stand up guy leaving Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) alone in a hotel room with a newborn baby; but Owen wonders why he is still there; but Tom informs him that he is his new boss; something Owen finds a hard time swallowing.

Bailey tells the interns that they need to show up on time or get out of her sight. She presents them with their new patient; promising that she will make them surgeons like Grey and Karev. A couple of them raise their hands that they want to be Grey and Karev but Bailey reminds them they would already be reviewing the case. On the way to the hospital, someone on a scooter hits maggie’s car, terrifying Amelia and Maggie; both jumping out to help.

Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) walks with Alex at Pacific Northwest Hospital where Richard learns there are only 2 residents. They are overworked and demands a class of more than two, but are interrupted when Karev is told an Inspector is waiting for him because the helicopter pad elevator isn’t up to code. Alex reminds Richard this was his idea for Alex to turn the hospital around so he is there to help, so do it. Richard asks for an office!

Owen is out at the scene with Amelia and Maggie as they help the young man who was on his scooter. He is complaining about renting the scooter on his girlfriend’s credit card and now they have to buy it. Meanwhile, back inside Grey Sloan, Dr. Dahlia Qadri (Sophia Ali) reviews the case of their 55-year-old patient, who has several issues including the inability of having an erection. Meredith keeps trying to get a hold of Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli), so he leaves to take the emergency.

Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) comes down to the ED, wanting to know if they need help but Maggie makes a rude comment about Jackson’s hashtagging freedom on his social media. They don’t end up arguing but he says that wasn’t very nice and she says she meant it to be. Amelia catches Link in the stairwell, where she asks for some privacy, he grabs her, she reveals she is approximately 8 weeks pregnant. She isn’t asking him for anything but he is completely shocked asking if they can talk about this later as she has a head trauma coming in.

Bailey is shocked to see Jo at the hospital, thinking she would have joined Alex on his new venture announcing her own plate is full and she needs to step back from the fellowship and wants to know if that sounds appealing to Jo; giving her the day to think about it. Richard meets with someone who says he knows Meredith from the work crew and told him to come there asking for Dr. Webber, and ask for a CT. He tells him to hang tight. Alex informs him the CT is out so Richard suggests they should close the trauma. Alex is frustrated that there isn’t a single pen that works. A woman walks in asking Richard if he knows Meredith Grey and he mutters under his breath.

Meredith has a lineup of workers to see her, suddenly Schmitt arrives, worried he is going to get arrested but she reminds him she owns the hospital and those are her supplies. The crew manager/officer orders everyone to get back to work, but Meredith notices an oval-shaped lump on her neck and offers to look at it too.

While Bailey is showing her interns how to do grafts, DeLuca corrects her on what Dr. Grey uses and she tells him that is not what she does. She reminds them that one synthetic material is not superior over the other. She encourages them all to start practicing.

Maggie argues with the patient, saying he was the one who recklessly swerved into her car. He loses consciousness and they realize no one did an EKG and now need to open him right away. Jo tells Link she is being offered total control of her fellowship by two different hospitals. She notices something is off and learns that Amelia is pregnant by him. He admits they have not gotten too far in their conversation and Amelia has a bad history with pregnancies and possibly wants to keep it?

Meredith tells the officer she needs to see an ENT and she knows someone who can see her right now, but she 2 hours left of her detail. She reminds Robin (Cleo King) that this could be cancer, so she agrees to go with her, Schmitt is supposed to drive but he only brought his bike.

Bailey informs Tom and Jackson that he doesn’t have a resident because of what Bailey is doing with the interns. Dr. Taryn Helm (Jaicy Elliot) is chosen to do the surgery and DeLuca is to join them as well.

The ED is packed full of people, forcing Alex to call Meredith telling her to send her street hospital to another hospital as his ED is overcapacity. Alex calls Jo, offering her something more than Bailey is; he is interrupted by a patient who informs him that believes one of the men in the waiting room is dead. Alex rushes over to check.

Tom comes in, complaining that they have a rib fracture in a trauma room and why is it filetted? Owen says it nicked the heart and they have no pressure. Maggie is freaking out, worrying she will be charged with vehicular manslaughter. She says that Amelia cannot handle the kids right now, causing Owen to wonder what is wrong with Amelia, but she remains mum about it.

Richard complains to Alex about working at the new hospital, as he really thought he would work at Grey Sloan, which he considers “his hospital” for the past several decades; working there until he died. In the meantime, Link talks to Jo about his childhood and all the chemo he endured. Jo reminds him that his cancer is not genetic. He doesn’t understand how any sane person would want to bring a baby into this world. Jo reminds him that he can weigh in but it is her body and her choice. His phone goes off and it is Amelia, he stands up but Jo stops him, saying he is an excellent friend and if it comes down to it, he will be an excellent dad. He reminds her if people are treating her like a commodity it is because she is.

Meredith and Schmitt explain to Robin why she is being treated in the parking lot, as she wonders if this has something to do with why she is on her work crew. Jackson comes out, asking if she is trying to lose her medical license. Meredith explains what is going on and asks if he can do a biopsy, Jackson saying he will move somethings around and to stop practicing medicine in the parking lot before bailey sees her.

Bailey is in surgery, as DeLuca and Taryn take their time and begin their surgery. DeLuca feels he was cheated out, but Bailey reminds him if he is going to beat her it should be more than by mere seconds. Owen and Maggie continue to charge and finally get a rhythm, but Owen accidentally charges and hits Tom right in the groin with the paddles. Maggie tells Tom he should sit down, he demands they page Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) as he won’t let anyone else touch him.

Schmitt tells Jackson what Meredith requested and doesn’t want to lose his license over helping her; hoping he can say that Jackson asked him for the supplies and not her. Jackson says he will as Meredith is a great doctor and a good friend so he is willing to get into a little trouble for her.

Amelia explains how she donated her son’s organs and it was the hardest thing she ever went through, so ever being pregnant again was paralyzing; that is why she is militant over birth control. She admits she had a long time to process and grieve him but even though she is in a privileged situation with sobriety and her career; she could give a kid a good life, she just doesn’t think that is a reason to have a child. The odds of what happened to Christopher are a million to one, she would never survive it; she tears up as she looks at Link and she knows it is her body but he is free to have feelings. Link clears his throat confessing he spent the day trying to wrap his head around all of this. Worrying about cancer, gun violence, etc, but now talking to her and looking at her, knowing what she survived and what he doesn’t want is anything to hurt her; everything else that scares him feels irrelevant. If she wants the kid he will suck up his fears and be the great dad. This is what he knows and those are his feelings. Amelia gets up, curses at him and walks out of the green room, leaving him confused.

Bailey has them remove the first clamp and flush the graft, the first one is good but the second one the alarm sounds. Her suture line is bleeding, Taryn freaks out and DeLuca takes control as he barks orders, Bailey standing back and watching.

Jackson sits with Meredith and Robin, explaining she has thyroid cancer, she will need surgery but it is perfectly doable. She is upset that if she misses work she can’t pay rent or her inhalers. She only has options for bankruptcy or death. Taryn and Bailey spot Meredith who swears she is only visiting a friend, they keep walking.

Maggie tells her patient’s girlfriend, Tara who is miserable with her boyfriend, but she is very vindictive, telling her staying with him as things get worse is only making things worse unless she just rips off the bandage.

Alex gives Richard a pep talk, saying this hospital could be his new legacy, do the impossible and help him prove Bailey wrong. He pulled some strings with maintenance and got him an office, showing him the broom closet; Richard shouts after him to do better!

Jackson and Maggie get into the elevator, where he tells her she is wrong about what she said about Vic. She is different than Jackson but that isn’t a bad thing. Maggie apologizes for what she said but he wasn’t trying to be spiteful.

Bailey watches as Taryn and DeLuca let their patient listen to the blood pump through his body. DeLuca stops Bailey as he expects praise from her for saving the patient earlier. She tells him that he did his job, as he is furious that she let someone who wasn’t ready to do the job do it simply because he is in a relationship with Meredith Grey. He aced the skills lab and his suture lab was far better. She shouts that this isn’t personal and if he was smart he should think about his career and let go of certain loyalties.

Jo has decided wants to be a general surgeon attending; no one there offered her that position. She says it is up to her to go to Alex’s hospital, they believe she is ready and will be an asset to any hospital. She leaves the question to Bailey if she wants the hospital to be hers. Bailey tells Jo to come to her office.

Owen comes to see Tom, apologizing for the incident, extending his hand but he orders him to step back 500 feet; saying that he got a court restraining order. His attorney can answer any questions. He tells Owen to close the door on the way out. Jo tells Alex that she is staying with Grey Sloan but Alex tells her that he feels used, but he tells her to demand a parking spot; the wound gets deeper when he learns that Bailey gave her Alex’s spot.

Meredith gets a knock at her door and it is Andrew, who heard she was at the hospital, she admits she stumbled across a lot of patients at the work crew. She is trying to keep her head down but she keeps finding people who fall through the cracks. She doesn’t plan to go to jail but she is going to publish what she is seeing, even before she faces the board. He finds this very sexy when she is about to burn her entire life down.

Link finds Amelia outside, who has made up her mind but she is scared. She is terrified about a million little things about doing this alone that made her less scared and it is probably just the hormones. She feels they would make an amazing kid and her kind of wants to meet that kid and so does he.

THE END!
