How to Get Away with Murder (HTGAWM) begins with Bonnie (Liza Weil) returning home after the wedding and washing all the blood off herself. Frank (Charlie Weber) reveals that Gabriel (Rome Flynn) knows that Sam (Tom Verica) is his dad and she needs to get over there to make sure Annalise (Viola Davis) doesn’t jump off the roof. Bonnie tells him to shut up so she can reveal what she knows.

Annalise’s phone rings and it is Frank; Annalise answers as Gabe stands there. Frank pleads to come over and talk her through the whole thing, but she hangs up on him. She creeps past Gabriel and grabs a bottle of booze, telling him to sit!

Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) is thrilled with the way Connor’s (Jack Falahee) did up their honeymoon room. But Connor says they are not forgiving him until he pays for the honeymoon. Asher (Matt McGorry) calls Connor as Oliver gives him props for getting back out there, even if it was with Connor’s mother. Michaela (Aja Naomi King) calls Oliver, but they both feel Asher too her phone and disregard it. They exchange “I love you” when the hotel phone rings and this time Laurel (Karla Souza) informs them about all of Gabriel’s secrets; none of them understand why lying about this was a secret. Michaela worries that Gabriel is not returning any of her calls and she saw blood on Bonnie’s leg.

Annalise confronts Gabriel, saying the truth will set him free. He says his mother doesn’t know that he is there, only believing that his father was out of the picture until he saw a photo a year ago. Annalise reminds him they would not be meeting like this if Sam was actually a good man. Annalise keeps remembering 2005 when she lost her and Sam’s baby. Sam brings her to bed and tells her she gets to say anything to her. She says the witness has a son named Kristoff and he is 12; he needs them as much as she needs him. Sam isn’t saying “no” but he wants her to focus on healing first, she pushes him away, disappointed.

Sam looks at the photo in the hospital of him, Annalise and the baby before he gets on the computer to look up Vivian Maddox who lives in Hyde Park. He leaves a message, saying it is Sam and doesn’t have the right to ask, but he really wants to meet him.

Bonnie sits with Frank, as they anxiously await to hear from Nate (Billy Brown); delivery food arrives as the perfect alibi. The Keating 5 want to know if they hurt Gabriel or killed him, revealing they know about the blood on Bonnie’s leg. Ollie feels a dead Gabriel would have at least kept things quiet. Annalise wants Gabe to go online to find out everything he can about Sam’s death and Wes being responsible. Annalise is furious saying Frank has been lying to him, just like Sam and she had no idea about Gabriel’s existence.

In 2005, Sam welcomes Bonnie to the house. He says they are doing okay considering, but he is especially grateful nothing happened to Annie. He lies that he never got to touch the baby as they just took him away; Annalise walks down the stairs and catches the tender moment between them. Frank walks in saying Sam called him over.

Annalise hands Bonnie a letter to go to Cuyahoga Dept of Children Services; informing her that Sam can’t know. Sam orders Frank to remain quiet over his guilt of killing his son and that he must take this to his grave. Annalise says this is the only thing from making her slit her wrists and adoption is a long process; she knows Bonnie is loyal to Sam but she needs her to be loyal to her only right now.

Annalise makes Gabriel listen to the audio from Wes’ phone call confession. Gabriel is trying to understand why one of her students would kill her husband. She tears up, saying Sam broke her heart just like he did to him. She claims, “He betrayed us both!”

Sam walks in on Annalise, saying she is barely on her feet for a week and in grief, not knowing what else to do. Sam wants time and no child is going to take that pain away. Annalise shouts that the baby is dead, but that little boy she can love is alive. He says that is not going to happen if she wants to stay married to him; she defies him. Sam walks away, saying she is doing this without him, suggesting Bonnie and Frank go home to give Annie some space.

Michaela can hear Laurel talking to Ollie and Connor as Asher joins the party. They all think even if Gabriel opens Sam’s murder case, DA Ron Miller (John Hensley) would help them because he is dating Bonnie. Meanwhile, Bonnie says everyone was right and Ron was playing her; but Frank feels that isn’t true. She says she needs to think that he was someone awful.

Gabriel asks Annalise about how life was with Sam as she continues to call him a monster, after what he did to Lila and even Gabriel’s mother. She keeps repeating that Sam betrayed all of them and the real victim here is Gabriel’s mother.

In 2005, Annalise is drinking and taking her meds while Frank digs into Bonnie’s life, saying she must love this as now she has a chance to get it in with Sam; she bites back talking about his trip to Ohio; especially what happened between him and Sam. Frank kneels down and says if she is a mystery person, he might be able to help. She storms off, saying he is drunk. Sam calls Annie as she tells him she is okay and she can’t take Hannah feeling sorry for her.

Instead of being at home, he knocks at Vivian’s door, where she refuses to see him. He says all he wanted to see his son. Vivian’s mother says if he has an ounce of love and decency he will leave. He apologizes and she tells him to go home. Sam picks up his bag and sees a young boy playing with a basketball. Sam learns he is a Chicago Bulls fan and asks for his ball back; it is the only interaction Sam has with his son, Gabriel.

Frank puts a blanket on Bonnie, but she jumps up when it is Miller’s phone but Nate. He won’t reveal where he is and gives her the story. She wants to know where he is so Frank can come to get him, promising that Annalise doesn’t know. Meanwhile, Annalise talks about her father and how he screwed her all up; saying it is better to have no father than a bad one.

Annalise is breast pumping as per Bonnie’s directions when she picks up the phone, but when she is just about to call her mom she gets a call from the Cleveland Dept of Children Services. Frank and Bonnie talk about Sam’s sister, Hannah; where he admits he doesn’t believe Sam is there and this proves Bonnie is obsessed with Sam. Frank is concerned about Annalise, hating that she isn’t okay because he is the screwed up one and only Annalise gets that. Bonnie tells Frank he is better than he thinks and the two have sex downstairs. Annalise dumps all the breastmilk and calls Sam, begging him to call her back and for him to come home, saying they can be better.

Bonnie wakes up with Frank in bed beside her, seeing there are no messages for her. She returns to the Keating house, calling out for Annalise; but when there is no answer she finds Annalise on the floor with an empty bottle of pills. Bonnie shakes her, pleading for her to wake up. Bonnie brings Annalise back to the house, where they cut off her hospital bracelet; Annalise confides in Bonnie that the adoption isn’t happening and she shouldn’t have been surprised as she never has anything happen for her.

Bonnie continues to take care of Annalise, who wants to hold her baby. She got her hopes up along with Sam, but her body just wasn’t working and one day it finally happened. Bonnie has her on the ground, telling her she can’t hear the baby crying as there is no baby. Bonnie tries to comfort her as she says she killed the baby and its all her fault; hoping she will wake up and this is all a bad dream but then she remembers. She takes Bonnie’s hand and thanks her for being in her life.

Frank is woken by the phone as Bonnie tells him that Annalise doesn’t need him to come into. Both don’t feel any regret for what happened between them, but she says she will see if it will. Frank goes to his door to someone he doesn’t know. Frank hands the paper to Sam when he walks in the door, asking how he got a hold of that? Frank didn’t show it to Annalise as he kept his promise to take care of Annalise. Frank tells Sam to delete the email, forget Vivian and the kid but only love Annalise and make sure she knows she is never alone as she has him.

Sam tells Annie he is home, kneeling on the floor in front of her as she holds him with tears streaming down her face.

Oliver tells Connor that his dad told him to protect him from his worst instincts; something Connor denies. Oliver wonders if it is the other way around as Connor suggests they simply protect each other. Michaela crawls behind Asher, saying she is too freaked out to be alone right now. He offers her to lay feet to feet on the couch and no funny business, but they still yank on the blankets.

Annalise crawls into bed, remembering 2005 when Sam would sneak out of the bed the moment he thought she was sleeping. He deletes the email, saying he did come to see her make things right with Vivian and their son. He’s broken to think that his son is hurting because of his father’s failures. Meanwhile, Laurel gets her son Christopher from the crib and spots blood on the baby blanket. Frank returns to the house with Nate, who says that he did this; everything is on him but he was going to die, either way, she simply saved Ron some pain.
Sam’s letter says he believes Gabriel is a good kid, knowing it from the moment he saw him. Adult Gabriel holds the basketball with the Bulls logo on it, suddenly realizing something. He calls someone, saying he screwed up and they found out who he is and needs them to call him back.

A knock at Annalise’s door startles her awake. She finds her old friend, Eve Rothlow (Famke Janssen) handing her the email Sam wrote to Vivian all those years ago. He admits he never stopped loving Vivian as her friend says Sam never deserved her!
