The Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Best and Worst of 2019, B&B Year in Review – What Was Hot and What Was NOT

The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers reveal that another year has almost come and gone. That means it’s time to review all the drama that happened on B&B. What were some of the highs and lows? Let’s look at the best and worst of The Bold and the Beautiful in 2019.

For starters, there was one story that perhaps qualifies as the best AND the worst! Of course, we’re talking about the much-buzzed-about baby swap. It was an interesting twist that led to quite a payoff, so B&B definitely got a ratings boost out of it.

On one hand, the idea of Hope Logan’s (Annika Noelle) baby being given to her rival for Liam Spencer’s (Scott Clifton) affection was unbelievably soapy. Noelle delivered some amazing performances as a devastated mom dealing with intense grief.

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood’s (Steffy Forrester) turn came later in those heartbreaking scenes where Steffy was forced to give up “Phoebe Forrester” aka Beth Spencer (River Davidson and Madeline Valdez). We’re all for giving actors gripping material, so that was a win for this storyline.

However, the big reveal couldn’t come fast enough for many fans. Plus, the unfortunate timing of Wood’s maternity leave made this story all about Hope when it should’ve been about Steffy as well. That really couldn’t be helped since Wood needed time away, but it was still a bummer that Steffy’s perspective couldn’t have been featured more.

Matthew Atkinson also took on the role of Thomas Forrester this year – and B&B chose to take him in a villainous direction for a while. That was arguably the right call since it provided some great twists and turns for the show. Atkinson has proven to be an engaging and dynamic performer.

Now that doesn’t mean we approve of all Thomas’ choices! His out-of-nowhere Hope obsession has been bizarre, and his abuse of Douglas Forrester (Henry Joseph Samiri) earlier this year was uncalled for. As long as Thomas can treat Douglas right, he makes for a fascinating gray character that’s worth keeping around.

Samiri has also been a little acting powerhouse. He’s an adorable soap kid and has done a fantastic job on B&B in 2019. As for best death on the show this year, that would be Emma Barber (Nia Sioux). She was the perfect character to kill off since it provided shock value without leaving a major void.

The worst death was by far Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey). Having her die offscreen after a blood clot was a plot point at best and petty at worst! Godfrey works on Days of Our Lives as Sarah Horton now, but it was a shame to kill off Caroline and eliminate the possibility of her return one day.

Plus, all this “Mommy Hope” business seems incredibly disrespectful. Caroline will always be Douglas’ mother – no matter what this kid is manipulated into believing. Nevertheless, this push-and-pull between Thomas and Hope has been intriguing. Thomas always leaves fans wondering what his next move’s going to be.

It’s also been nice to see B&B pick up the pace in the later part of the year. They seem to have learned their lesson after viewers grew impatient with the baby switch storyline. In fact, Bold and the Beautiful probably could’ve let the acid vat story drag out a bit longer! They arguably missed the chance for more drama by revealing Thomas’ survival so soon.

That brings us to the big events B&B has brought to the table this year. We mentioned Emma’s car accident and Thomas’ tumble into an acid vat, which turned out to be filled with cleaning solution. There was also Thomas’ fall off a cliff, which was brought on by Brooke Forrester’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) shove. We also saw a lot of action thanks to Liam and Thomas’ faceoff during the baby reveal chaos.

It’s been fun to have something besides the usual weddings in living rooms and plain old arguments. Let’s hope B&B keeps delivering some exciting twists. Unfortunately, we have to reflect on some of the same old mistakes, too. The Bold and the Beautiful should really change the name to Everybody Loves Liam at this point. No one asked for a Liam, Steffy and Hope triangle reboot, but it’s clear that it’s happening.

Even poor Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) has fallen prey to the Liam curse. She inexplicably called Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) by Liam’s name, leaving him to wonder if Sally still had feelings for his brother. Because everybody loves Liam!

As far as new characters go, B&B suffered from “Flo” Fulton (Katrina Bowden) overload for a while. B&B tried a little too hard to make this character work. The writers invented a high-school sweetheart history between Wyatt and Flo as well as made Storm Logan (William deVry) her father. Not too many fans were going with the Flo since she was hogging a ton of airtime.

After a much-needed Flo break through, this character still has potential. Flo is on her way to redemption for her part in the baby swap since she sacrificed a kidney for Katie Logan (Heather Tom). She’ll be back onscreen in the new year, so maybe some exciting opportunities are ahead.

Shauna Fulton (Denise Richards) has managed to win some fans over lately, too. Her romance with Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) is actually kind of refreshing and different. “Bridge” was getting a tad stale, so Shauna and Ridge could be a good thing!
