Tonight on ABC their new series The Rookie airs with an all-new Tuesday, February 26, 2019, season 1 episode 14 called, “Plain Clothes Day,” and we have your The Rookie recap below. On tonight’s The Rookie episode as per the ABC synopsis, “The rookies are really put to the test when their training officers accompany them out of uniform for Plain Clothes Day, which forces them to make all the decisions while on patrol.
Meanwhile, Officer Nolan tries to prove he has been progressing faster than the other rookies to justify his desire of becoming a detective within five years.

John and Talia are at the scene of an argument between a man and woman who were just in a car accident. They search the car and realize the man just robbed an hour ago.
Back at the office, John, Jackson, and Chen are told about plain clothes day. Their TOs will ride with them but will only observe, They have to call the shots. Chen already gets nervous when she shows up to see Tim and gets in the passenger side. He smiles. He knows how today is going to go. He already filled out her evaluation. Meanwhile, Jackson panics when he cant start his cruiser.
Chen takes down a man in the street with her door. He was on the run after she witnesses him filming a woman in her bedroom as she gets dressed. Tim looks impressed but doesn’t say a word.
John arrives on the scene of a fight between three men. He gets one down and another but the third tries to run. He nabs him and brings him back but realizes he is missing a suspect. Talia reminds him she is only there to observe not help. He shouldn’t have left the man alone. He hobbled off. John finds his purp down the street limping.
Chen books her purp who she discovers is a sex offender. Her only problem, per Tim, she left the man’s van behind and it is most likely filled with evidence. Chen races back to the scene but the van is gone. Tim shares he had it picked up. She gets mad he didn’t tell her.
John plots an entry to retrieve a thief at a motel with 2 of Talia’s counter parts. They laugh at his planning. When all three bust through the room, they come upon a mom and a screaming baby. She bought the car John ran plates on days ago. Talia laughs. He busted the wrong person.
Chen arrives at a house on a noise complaint. The man’ dog won’t stop barking. The man kicks dirt at his dog twice. Chen tries to stay professional and calm but when he calls her honey she tells him she will make him her own personal project if he abuses his dog.
Jackson is upset he has yet to head out on the road since his cruiser is broken down. Meanwhile, the man who Chen threatened has called in a complaint to the captain. When Chen arrives, the captain tells her he has to let Internal Affairs know.
At lunch, Chen tells John about the complaint. Tim tells Talia. Tim tells her he isn’t going to let Chen go down.
John heads back out to the motel after the owner calls. When he arrives the manager shows him a ransacked room. There is also a woman missing. John remembers talking to her earlier. She asked for help earlier, he tells Talia.
Grey arrives on the scene. The woman has an ex that has been beating her. She tried to get away but it looks like he came and got her. They issued a BOLO on him.
Tim takes Chen back to the angry man’s house. Tim tries to talk to him but he wont listen. He heads to leave but Chen wants to check out the garage. She sees the dog crying and there is blood. She makes the call to move in and look. She opens the garage to find the neighbor dead on the ground. The man yells that it was an accident. She got in his face. Chen drops him and arrests him.
John tracks the woman and her abusive husband to a warehouse. He enters. The man shoot sat him while he tortures his wife. Talia calls in back-up. They decide to try and move in on their own. They manage to get the man and help the woman.
Jackson helps an older woman whose husband was murdered. All she wants is some of her things back that was booked into evidence. Jackson manages to find something that makes her day.
Chen opens her evaluation. Tim knew she was going to do well. Chen meets with the Captain. She tells her she will drop the complaint but she better not do it again. Later, John and Talia talk. She tells him to use his age as a strength and not a disability.
The rookies celebrate with a shot after work. Chen leaves their bar tab with Tim. She runs off laughing as he opens the envelope to a bill.
