Talia teaches John a thing or two as they bust a purp in an alleyway for dealing drugs. Later, the precinct is told IA is conducting interviews to see how the officers treat criminals.

John and Talia are called to the scene of a woman angry that a valet scratched her expensive car. She lunges at the valet with a sharp object when John stops her. Her dress rips, showing her unmentionables. He cuffs her as she calls him on it in front of a crowd.

Tim and Chen pull over Mario Lopez in the rain after running as a stop sign. Chen is starstruck. Tim doesn’t care. Mario asks to be left off but Tim tells him bribery is against the law. Tim looks across the seat to see IA watching. He cannot believe the woman from IA tried to trick him.

At the station, John and Talia watch as the woman takes her mug shots with a smile, posing. Meanwhile, Angela and Jackson talk about how she is no longer dating the lawyer she met weeks ago when they pull over a swerving car. A young boy is behind the wheel trying to drive his sister to the ER after she overdosed. They see her in the back seat. They use Narcan on her, telling her brother he saved her.

Tim and Chen arrive at a drug house where they find a man on the floor with an animal trap on his ankle. He is bleeding out. Tim thinks it is the IA messing with him. He squeezes the trap. The man begins bleeding faster and screaming. Chen tells him to stop as she calls 911.

At the station, Jackson keeps the young boy company in the break room. His sister is stable. They have called social services for him. He tells them how his mom died from drugs too.

Angela runs into her lawyer. She tells him she is sorry she went through his phone. Her dad cheated on her mom when she was younger. She has trust issues. He tells her that is no excuse. He cannot trust her.

At dinner, they all tease John about arresting the woman who had a dress issue. He heads to his truck after saying goodbye and is shot at with an assault rifle by a man in a truck. He ducks for cover. Tim, Chen, Talia, Grey and the sergeant show up. They have learned there is a bounty on his head after ripping that woman’s dress. She is the girlfriend of a gang leader who wants John dead. He is brought home where his home is secured with alarms. Chen and Jackson show up to keep him company.

At work the next morning, the precinct informs everyone about the gang that wants John, Southern Front. They plan to hit the streets and find them. John arrives to work. They all clap.

As they get ready to ride, Talia tells John he shouldn’t put himself in danger. The captain steps in. She respects him and plans to make him ride with her.

At the precinct, the team books as many Southern Front associates as they can, costing them their revenue. Meanwhile, Grey visits the gang leaders father who is incarcerated. Grey tells him to get his son to shut down the green light on John. He tells Grey he cannot even if he wanted to.

Later, John gets word that the hit on his head is over. He and the captain continue to ride. They arrive at a B&E. Inside there is classical music playing but no-one in sight. Suddenly several men come out of nowhere and jump them. They tie them to chairs out by the pool. John pleads to be let go and for them to let the captain go. The captain taunts the leader, telling him his dad will probably put a hit out on him when he finds out he has taken a captain hostage. He kicks the captain into the pool. John pleads with them. He will make an apology tape. Suddenly the captain pops up in the pool and begins shooting. They fire back. She is shot in the neck. The men run. John runs to her but it is too late.

The entire precinct arrives to see John and bring the captain out of the house. They all stand in salute. John follows the stretcher. He apologies to her before she is taken away by the coroners.

Grey visits the gang leader’s father in prison to tell him what his son did. He wants his whereabouts or he will turn his world and operation to ash. He gives up his son. The precinct goes out to get him, taking him down on a windy road in his car. Grey has John cuff him. They take him in.
